I doubt the Guards go crazy, it's not their style. They may add one or two pieces but they value their prospects too much. That trade for AJ Puk made me sad. It's exactly what the twins needed for their bullpen and he wasn't even that expensive. Two guys outside the top ten! If we turn around and get Tanner Scott without giving up a top ten guy then I'll forgive them completely:)

Maybe we can throw Dobnak in along with a younger prospect to get his contract off our books and bring in a LHRP?

Margot is terrible, I cringe Everytime I see him at the plate AND in the outfield. I've got to believe someone like Martin or Keirsey could outhit and outplay him in the field. I just read the article on Minnesotatwins.com saying that the plan is for Rocco to continue throwing Margot out there as a PH and hope he starts hitting. How is that a successful plan, especially when we're trying to make the playoffs!?!

Nice to see Jenkins bat finally waking up. Looks like now that he's fully healthy it's back to business as usual. Keaschal looks like one of our best hitting prospects and now that he's getting reps in the infield and the outfield, there's a real shot the Twins can find a place for him in the majors when he's ready. Severino started the year slow but has been smashing lately. Dudes got TONS of power. He's an infielder though, probably won't have a spot on the big league club with all of our infield depth. Being positionally blocked, I'd say he's one of our better trade chips. Severino, Gonzalez and maybe Raya. Those three should be able to get us the pitching help we need I would think...

I'm sure there are lots of teams calling about Flaherty, meaning the cost will probably be higher than his true value. I'd love if we could get him for Gonzalez or Raya, anyone outside our top ten. But since half the league is looking for pitching, my guess is the price will be too high to pay. Kikuchi seems like a more reasonable target. I still say a good lefty for the bullpen needs to be our priority.

More struggles from Okert and Theilbar. Was anyone really surprised? I think this just shows how badly we need some left handed relief help. As for starters though, Festa did great. Would love to see him build off this in his next spot start. Looks like he's got strikeout stuff. If he can just learn to locate a bit better and not walk guys, he may turn into a decent starter for us. Maybe help eat some innings down the stretch. It is usually a lot cheaper to add the the bullpen rather than the rotation at the deadline, and with the Twins crying poverty the bullpen might be the only help we get. Hopefully a lefty!

As far as prospects go I'd say Severino and Keaschal are probably our best trade chips. Maybe Raya, but other than him, I wouldn't trade any pitching unless we also get pitching in return. I doubt we'll find any takers, but if we can unload Farmer, Margot, Vasquez or Theilbar to another team we should do it. Even if it's just for the roster spot and salary relief.

Twins Greatest Trade Acquisitions Are Their Own
LambchoP replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Julien is absolutely lost at the plate. What, 5, 6 strikeouts the last two games. Most of them looking. He's missed a few plays at 2nd that should have been made too. His head is in the wrong place right now. Dude needs a total reset before he becomes a AAAA player. Twins need a starter and a lefty reliever. Go out and get Kikuchi,he shouldn't cost too much. Should not even think of trading Zebby....- 43 replies

Twins won't risk getting Snell and being on the hook for 30 million next year. I could see them maybe getting Paxton now that he's been released by the Dodgers. Maybe they grab a reliever or two. I'd be happy with their deadline if they can get Kikuchi, or better yet Eovaldi or Fedde. Then a solid lefty reliever. This would give us a legit chance at a playoff series win imo. One solid starter, one solid lefty reliever.

Festa getting another call up. Hopefully he can show some improvement today but it will be a tough assignment against the Phillies. Nice to see Dobnak pitching well lately. I really doubt we'll ever see him in the majors again, but since he's under contract it can't hurt to have him in St Paul as injury insurance.

Love the idea of getting a good lefty for our bullpen, just not sure this is the guy. His numbers aren't too different from Okert. With the years of control we'd have to give up someone decent too and I think if we're parting with a good prospect, we should be upgrading our major league arms. Not just trying out new guys. Still think Kikuchi is cheap enough and would really help the rotation and bullpen if we get Paddack back and have him pitch in relief. Again, we do need a solid lefty for the bullpen too.

SWR has been a lifesaver in the rotation for us. Everyone seems to be waiting for him to fall apart but I think he's got middle of the rotation type stuff. I just hope his success doesn't keep us from acquiring a TOR starter at the deadline or in the off-season. Miranda should be on this list too. If he can stay healthy and produce like he has this year, I see an all-star game in his future. Just curious where he'll play with Lewis at third, Correa at SS and Lee at 2nd. Will they try him at 1st to keep his bat in the lineup? He's too young to be marked as a DH only....

I would love it if the Twins could grab Eovaldi or another TOR starter. I don't see it happening unless we can unload 10-15 million in payroll to offset the cost of the starter. My guess is the Twins pick up one, maybe two bullpen arms and that's it. The timing on all this just really sucks. We finally win a playoff series last year, we're in a close playoff race this year. Twins are clearly in their competitive window right now and what do they do? Cut payroll and hamstring the teams options. Very sad and frustrating as a fan....

Seth Stohs' Updated Top 30 Minnesota Twins Prospects (Midseason 2024)
LambchoP commented on Seth Stohs's blog entry in SethSpeaks.net
I think Zebby and Morris have looked dominant all year and are probably our best pitching prospects. I doubt we'll see either one this year, but I think if they stay healthy they could compete for a rotation spot next year. It's really too bad Canterino can't get healthy. I thought he had some of the best stuff in our system and could have been a late innings weapon in our bullpen. Has there been any updates on him at all lately?- 33 comments

Andrew Morris has looked dominant all year. ERA under 2! Between him and Zebby we might actually have a homegrown TOR starter for once:) I really wish there were some updates on Canterino too, he looked like he could have been a real weapon in our bullpen this year if he could stay healthy for once. Anyone know what's up with Topa? Seems he's been throwing bullpens for over a month, why no rehab assignment like Stewart?

I don't like it. If he's not going to be trusted to start a playoff game for us, then it's not worth it. Really the only positive for Paxton is that he's a lefty. Walks way too many, gives up too many homers. I'd much rather they get Kikuchi, Fedde or Tyler Anderson. We seriously need bullpen help too, particularly a good lefty.

Good solid win for the boys. I'm still a bit worried about our problem hitting with RISP. Especially bases loaded. How many times have we seen guy on 2nd nobody out, and we end the inning without even moving the guy to third. Even worse, bases loaded nobody out, with no runs to show for it. Frustrating to watch but with Lewis and Miranda back soon with Correa to follow, I'm hoping this will improve a bit:)
-
We need Royce, Miranda and Correa back. Them plus adding Stewart and maybe Topa to our bullpen will also be key. Of course it would help out a TON of we could grab z TOR starter and at least one solid lefty reliever at the trade deadline:)

Will be interesting to see who they call up to take Paddacks rotation spot. My guess is Festa. Hopefully he can do a bit better than his first call up. Zebby sure does look like the real deal and should compete for a rotation spot next year for sure, if not sooner. As someone else said above, I definitely would have rather seen Severino get the call up over Diego Castillo. At least Severino can run into a few home runs....

Everytime I see Rocco pinch hit and send Margot out there I just shake my head. The dude can't pinch hit. Literally, not one PH all year. Not to mention his defense in the outfield, which was supposedly a strength, has been atrocious. I like Castro, but he's not a shortstop. I have to believe Lee would be a much better defender there, since that's where he mostly played all year in AAA.

Week in Review: Back in Action
LambchoP replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Don't look now, but the Royals are only one game out from taking our second wild card spot. If we're not careful, Twins could miss the playoffs entirely. Imo, if we are to both make the playoffs AND win a series, we're going to need a solid starter for the rotation, and then at least one lefty and one righty for the bullpen. Maybe most important, get everyone healthy again and keep them healthy. That's a lot of IF's....- 17 replies

Our so called manager needs to stop pinch hitting and removing starting players from the game in the fifth or sixth innings. Sure, you get a better matchup for that one at bat. But then your stuck with guys like Margot at a disadvantage for the rest of the game. Offense looked completely lifeless today, like they were on autopilot or something. Hopefully we can wake up and get a win today.
