3 Options: The Royce Lewis Contingency Plan
FlyingFinn commented on Cody Christie's article in Twins
Who are you benching - Polanco or Julien? I would have Polanco at 3B and Julien at 2B if Lewis has to DH.- 26 comments

Candidates to be removed from the 40-man
FlyingFinn replied to twinstalker's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
It was all about Stevenson's base stealing, speed and defense. It's at a high enough level to consider a spot on a playoff roster. I do think the Twins will DFA him this winter but hope to have him back at AAA next year in hopes to repeat this in 2024. -
Twins Minor League Starting Pitcher of the Year - 2023

Twins pregame - Brooks Lee told the Twins player development head that the "nastiest" pitcher he faced in college was Cory Lewis. Interesting.- 17 replies

Game Thread: Twins v Rockies, 9/30 @ 7:10pm CT
FlyingFinn replied to Squirrel's topic in Archived Game Threads
Twins pre-game - Polanco and Farmer are going to be assistant managers today. They will listen in on every decision by Rocco and Tingler. They may or may not participate in those discussions. -
Rocco said exactly this on the post game show. The length he went in this game allows Maeda to continue to be stretched out and pitch either as a starter or reliever.

Game Thread: Twins @ Colorado 9/29 7:10 PM
FlyingFinn replied to stringer bell's topic in Archived Game Threads
For people who don't like the Yankees. They are playing the Royals tonight. Carlos Rodon gave up 6 hits and 2 walks............and never recorded an out. 8 earned runs, a reliever is in and still there isn't an out. -
I think it puts Julien at 2B and Polanco at 3B vs. RH's. Not so good for our defense.
-
I would say yes. If Lewis plays, he may need a pinch runner as well. If Lewis doesn't play, there's another roster spot open.

Twins Minor League Hitter of the Year - 2023
FlyingFinn replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Severino vs. Miranda - Miranda hits for better average and strikes out a lot less. Severino has more power. I rate their defense about equal. With a healthy roster (I know that never happens), not sure where either of them play for the Twins. The questions to be answered - was 2023's bad season all because of Miranda's shoulder issue in the spring and will Severino ever cut down on his massive amount of SO's?- 15 replies

I can't open that attachment but MLBtraderumors.com has Neal saying Lewis is likely to play DH in the wild card series. That really limits Buxton.

Twins Playoff Roster: Infielders
FlyingFinn replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Reports seem to have Lewis as DH in the wild card series. That really weakens our infield defense to get both Polanco and Julien's bats in the lineup.- 12 replies

Interesting comments by Provus and Gladden about Trevor Larnach on the post game show. The Twins tried to change him from going to all fields to be being mostly a pull hitter and it messed him up. Is it just me, or do the Twins try change too many great hitters in the minors (Austin Martin) and it turns out to flop?

Camargo should be added to the 40 man this winter. I don't see Helman or Prato being added though. The Twins can probably afford to lose one (would rather not) but must not lose both. I see them as fighting for the exact same position. I like to compare Helman's injury free season from last year to Prato's season this year, basically at the same minor league levels. Helman - 512 AB's, 20 HR's, .258 batting average, .432 slugging, 40 SB's. Prato - 361 AB's, 12 HR's, .255 batting average, .435 slugging, 18 SB's. Very comparable. Making the AB's even, gets the #'s pretty close. Helman probably the better base stealer. Prato is two years younger, an advantage for him. Defensively, Helman plays everywhere except catcher. Prato does not play CF and didn't play SS with the Saints. Very slight advantage overall to Helman for me. Castro blocks both Prato and Helman though IMO.

I think it does relate to Ober because there is a greater likelihood of a long game as there isn't a ghost runner.

Twins Minor League Relief Pitcher of the Year - 2023
FlyingFinn replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I believe Regi Grace is Rule 5 eligible. I didn't look but being Miguel Rodriguez has been with the Twins for awhile, he may be as well. I don't see the Twins adding them to the 40 man roster. Teams like pitchers in the Rule 5 draft. Do we think we could lose one or both of these guys like we did Tyler Wells?- 12 replies

I'm for winning one game at a time and one series at a time. Thus, I have Ober in the pen for the first series. If the game goes extras, him pitching or his earlier innings could be what wins it. He's one of our 10 best pitchers. Game 1 of the next series can be figured out when the time comes.

Eight Twins Minor Leaguers Heading to Arizona Fall League
FlyingFinn replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I see Sabato starting in Wichita next year. The one position on the field that was poor in Cedar Rapids was 1B (Cavaco) so Sabato would really fit in position-wise with that group. Salas should stay in Cedar Rapids and Schobel rejoins his Cedar Rapids group by staying in Wichita.- 15 replies

Eight Twins Minor Leaguers Heading to Arizona Fall League

Twins Minor League Report (9/24): Saints Come Marching In
FlyingFinn replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I can think of one big reason that you can't bring all of them (Stewart, Alcala, Buxton, Gordon, and Gallo) back to the Twins - you would end up DFA'ing/demoting guys who you are planning on playing in the postseason. What five moves do you want to make to bring all five back to the Twins?- 8 replies

Twins Minor League Report (9/24): Saints Come Marching In
FlyingFinn replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Now where do all these rehabbing limbo guys go? To Florida as they are always playing games at least on the back fields there? Stewart to the Twins I am guessing.- 8 replies

I don't think Celestino is eligible to be taken in the Rule 5 draft. If he does get DFA'd, everyone gets their free chance at him.

I disagree. One major difference - stolen bases. From 2021-2023, Martin has 68 and Celestino has 13. Remember, Celestino had major issues with throwing to the right base, hitting the cutoff and running the bases with the Twins. No clue how he did this year in St. Paul.
