  1. Yep - that’s why point number 3 you made is so valid. They will have to face a lefty at some point whether they like it or not.
  2. I agree with point #3 emphatically. However the rest of the stats are pretty damning. Gleeman wrote a very informative article on this a few weeks ago. Essentially all the best left handed hitters in Twins history had a 20% decline one OPS against left handed pitching. Only Carew hit lefties and we are talking about some great hitters like Olivia Morneau etc. This wasn’t limited to Twins hitters either. Across league history this was the case. From memory another poster looked up Juliens minor league numbers against lefties and it was pretty ugly and the sample was pretty large. I hope Julien Wallner and Kiriloff learn to hit lefties at the big league level and want them to get a fair chance but the stats support Rocco big time on this.
  3. Good on you for being a mentor. Your experience Saturday will be far better than a Twins game.
  4. And Max ends up on the IL. The guys track record with stuff like this is frustrating. Anytime Max is dinged they just need to IL him because this song has been played too many times. And when his IL stint is done he won’t go on a rehab assignment and will suck for a week before he gets his timing back. I just don’t get how the Twins have treated this guy like some stalwart in the lineup with his track record.
  5. I gotta admit articles like this drive me nuts. The guy is not young and has not shown anything consistently that would suggest that he is anything but a AAA pitcher and yet he is going to save our rotation. And on a more serious note he just went on the IL with the dreaded forearm strain. I hope he isnt headed towards TJ.
  6. I agree and I don’t anyone that would be even close in the excitement category.
  7. Correct. And in the case of Julien the adjustment is pretty straightforward. Attack the zone and make him swing or put him in a hole. The only way out of it is to punish the pitchers for filling the zone. If they aren’t afraid of him this is what he will get endlessly. Due to his babip last year I was worried we would see this: enough regression to the mean that pitchers aren’t afraid of him right now.
  8. I e been saying this for years. What business / industry wants to prominently display one of the biggest weaknesses of said industry? At a minimum MLB should require the box or technology they use be the one superimposed on the TV screen. It’s pretty unfair to the umpires that they get roasted on pitches that are in fact correct calls.
  9. A thousand times this.
  10. I think the important aspect is not the total runs scored rather the volatility of the numbers. There have been a bunch of games where the offense does little or nothing. Games where they had no chance to win.
  11. And I think it is important to remember the schedule was much easier the second half so it’s tough to really know.
  12. Yea I could never figure that one out. The only thing many people care about are pitchers that strike people out but turn around and say for hitters it’s just another out. Perhaps they feel hip to the metrics or something.
  13. I don’t follow these scorecards much but this one is as bad as I can recall. Angel Hernandez like.
  14. My mother in law called to find out if she could watch the game. With her cable package she couldn’t watch and was mad about it. I told her not to worry about it and work in the garden - you’ll be happier.
  15. I’m not over the top worried. They are 500 with a bunch of injuries and a bunch of games on the road. If they can stay 500 until they start getting some guys back they will be fine. It’s important to remember that even a 90 win team is going to play 500 ball a lot throughout the long season.
  16. Not much they can do about it now. They tried to tweak the lineup in the off season the additions haven’t done much. While many of us want a more balanced lineup it’s clear that Falvine are all in on the homers over all else philosophy. As suggested up thread I think there is merit in having a more individualized approach.
  17. This brings us back to the strikeouts are just another out debate. Like most things in life the answer is somewhere in the middle. Many times they don’t matter but they sure do matter when you have runners in scoring position especially with two outs. Buck had to at least make contact and Julien can’t take strike 3 looking with the bases loaded.
  18. Funderburk and Sands are two guys I’m skeptical of but both pitched well. Sands seemed to have more movement on his pitches. I was confused by the pitch calling in the fourth. López threw nothing but breaking balls which he couldn’t locate. He got a head a couple of times but then everything got very passive. Don’t know if that is coming from the dugout or Vasquez but seemed different than the start of the game. Speaking of Vasquez he needs to practice his rundowns. Run the guy back to the base and force the tag at the base he is coming from. Runners advanced for no reason on both of those plays. Oh and Eddy with two outs and the bases full you might want to protect the plate.
  19. This. The difference between the cheap vets and younger players isn’t great. However adding one good player could be a game changer.
  20. Yea the whole “ we didn’t have a spot for him” argument is really tired. He would be one of our best hitters.
  21. Yea max isn’t exactly a guy that likes to play dinged up. Based on past history I would I give him another day and if he isn’t ready I would IL him and back date it.
  22. There is research that supports this but I believe it pertains to sports like marathon running etc. I think baseball as a sport has a lot of these types of injuries because of the movement required. Sprinting from a dead start, swinging a bat abruptly etc.
  23. Ok. So catchers don’t aim for the bag? The throw was six feet off target. The only reason they got him was a great play by Correa. Your love of vets is clouding your judgement.
