  1. Me too which makes it an odd situation. I’m guessing other people are making it felt at some level. They made it far too easy for the casual fan to disengage. I have several family members who used to go to 2-3 games a year but have stopped completely because they can’t watch them on TV. Meanwhile this team has a bunch of good guys and is fun to watch (if you can).
  2. That aspect of his play is more disappointing than his hitting. He’s not good in the field and at times has downright bad.
  3. With the new playoff format I don’t view the trade deadline as the best way to fill holes. Supply is less and demand is greater. IMO it makes last off season an even bigger bungle as we had opportunities but just screwed it up.
  4. As I posted after his first start he was going to have better command or he was going to get knocked around. This is particularly true on the fastball which has no movement to speak of. If that isn’t spotted with good command he is in trouble. Pretty similar story with the change as well. Obviously not giving up on him but as he stands right now - not a mlb caliber starter. Not saying it can’t happen but many people just assume success in the bigs because they had some success in the minors and it ain’t so. I truly hope I’m wrong but when I look at Festas path i see Balazovic. Decent stuff with shaky command leading to erratic results.
  5. I think we are in agreement but don’t know it. What I am saying is that hitters need to be in a non - strikeout frame of mind all the time in order to be good at it. Yes years ago players had a “two strike” approach but they generally tried to prevent strikeouts all the time. It was considered an embarrassment to strike out before the three true outcome approach.
  6. And how many years have guys thrown 100 with wicked spin rates?
  7. I think the whole strikeout thing is more nuanced. I get it - it’s ugly to watch people flail away but often times it doesn’t matter if you k or fly out or hit a dribbler. There are times that it does. Obvious situation being man on third with less than two outs or man on second and nobody out. Take last night when Buck scored on the contact play. Jeffers had weak contact and beat the ball into the dirt. Everything you don’t want as a hitter yet it scored Buxton. The nuanced part comes here: I don’t think in today’s game you can have two different approaches as a hitter - it’s too difficult. If approach is the three true outcomes but then you have an at bat where you can’t strike out I just don’t think it can be done. Your mindset has to be about preventing strikeouts all the time so you are confident you can do it when you really need to put the ball in play. Just my theory.
  8. He did. He made a small but quick move towards second.
  9. Well the Tigers catcher noticed immediately so there were some players alert enough to know the rule. Jeffers screwed up - it ain’t the umps fault.
  10. Ahhh. When Buck scored the ball rolled loose. Jeffers had already crossed first. When he saw the ball loose he made a small move towards second. The Tigers alertly saw it and they tagged out Jeffers.
  11. If you make any move toward second you are in play. Ump called it very tight but Jeffers should know better.
  12. Did Badoo just pimp the warning track fly out?
  13. Hopefully just precautionary. If not that can be a couple weeks easy.
  14. Well at least the bad throw didn’t matter.
  15. Oddly the Twins seem adept at maximizing existing pitchers but poor at drafting and developing them. Anyway Joe has gotten better and his split seems to be a quality pitch. Breaking ball can get better but he is really having a good season. As far as an extension- no chance. I believe he is 27 and has 3.5 years of control left. That means he will be a free agent at 31. Take the good years and thank him for his service.
  16. I am skeptical the Twins will call up Lee to play second when he has only played there a couple of times. In fact I think he should be playing third a lot so next year he can play third and Royce can play second.
  17. The outfield situation next year is a bit concerning. I assume Max will be gone so that means two of Larnach Wallner and Kiriloff have to produce. Not sure I want to bet on that. I guess you can throw Martin in the mix because we are going to have lots of infielders. Would we roll the dice on these guys knowing that if we need to we could play Castro in left?
