    Yea I wasn’t making the suggestion with payroll in mind. If they made a trade like this and let Miranda play first we could largely forget all the platoon stuff. I am hoping they will be allowing the current payroll. I would be happy enough if that was our off season

    One I hope they would consider is to use prospects and / or Larnach to trade for a cost controlled right handed hitting outfielder that doesn’t need to be platooned and can catch a batted ball. Don’t know if this player exists.

    I think you have a good idea here. Particularly because most of these articles are almost all about hitting with limited information about the other tools which is really important when trying to project their future. And a little more realism and less homerism would improve the quality of the articles.

    I don’t find them that entertaining because it’s like people are playing mlb the show. I am going to make these 6 interconnected trade and sign this free agent for less than market value and we will be under budget and win the World Series.

    Good point. Not every team has the financial means to take on the contract and how many of them need a SS? Good thought exercise in a boring off season. Thankfully it ain’t happening.

    I actually think that there would be some teams that would take on Correas contract. They would not give up anything else however so it would be a pure salary dump. At that point we would have to acquire another SS for half the money and watch the other get pocketed - no thanks. Oh and then there is the inconvenient fact that he is our best player…..and that we don’t have anyone to take his place. To throw a little snark into it I don’t understand the posters that worry about saving the Pohlads money.

    Any legit prospect that played 3 years of high D1 is going to do well in A ball. If we throw out prospect puppy love which seems to be in huge supply with these prospect articles we have a decent athlete that won’t stick at short. Has bat to ball skills but limited power. Good arm but not fast. So he could play third or left field which are bat first positions. He is going to have to really improve his hitting to make it to the bigs. I hope he does but I wouldn’t be betting my grocery money.

    No way. This is AAA depth in case they suffer two catcher injuries in a short period of time.

    AAA catching depth. As I posted in another thread the great Scotty Bowman once said about a trade - nothing for nothing ain’t much. Moran was not good.

    Falvey definitely tries to get value however he can when he knows a player isn’t coming back. As for Max I think one of two things happened. The most likely option is that he had to hang onto him as they were fighting for a playoff spot. Second scenario is that Falvey overplayed his hand. Based on the $10 million Max just got there was no surplus value in the contract and Falvey thought there was meaning his asking price was not going to be met.

    There is zero chance that Lewis outperforms Correas ceiling at SS. None.

    Lost in all the discussion about limited innings is that his results are not that good. 4+ era and 1.4 whip at AA doesn’t scream mlb pitcher.

    It’s just time to put Miranda there. My guess is that he will hit lefties eventually and if they let him focus on first he will get to be average. They have a group of players that we just need to see what we have. If they all flop this window is shut anyway. If they want to add someone make a trade for a player that actually offers upside.

    Thanks for some unbiased info on his fielding. So if you throw out the prospect puppy love you have a guy with a promising bat that can’t run field well or throw. Meaning he will end up being a 1b or dh which means he’s going to have to hit a crap ton to help the Twins. High bar to clear.

    What I’m interested in is guys that can get MLB hitters out. Zebby hasn’t even proven that much less the rest of these guys.

    Because at $10 million there is no surplus value. So you would have to give him away and still go find a right fielder. If nothing else this is a good reminder that the other 29 GMs aren’t stupid.

    Bill Smith gets credit for trying to spend some of the Pohlads money and signing Polo Max and Sano. But boy he had some bad trades. Looking back he probably lost his job because he actually wanted to spend money.

    I would add Larnach and to a certain extent Lewis and Wallner. Lee still deserves some slack but the rest of these guys gotta step up especially because they don’t offer much on the bases or with the glove. Of all of these guys Julien is the one who starts in AAA. His great 3 months his rookie year was based on a 371 babip. Last year is more typical of what he represents.

    Hard pass. No more mediocre vets. Either run it back or trade for an actual good player.

    I e been wondering about this as well. Perhaps it was the elbow injury. Perhaps he is another of Falveys all bat no glove players.

    Again these articles need to include specific age of player and arb years. I think the author is not including specific information (early thirties) because he knows it’s not a great idea but has to write something. There is no way the Twins should do this. They have him through his prime and can trade him or put the QO on him. Same thing with Ober but I’m sure we will see the same article soon.
