  1. I like Julien but would not be surprised if he regressed some next year. His bapip was 335 or so. That is likely to come down some. His second half numbers were clearly not as good as his first half. That may suggest teams adjusted to him. Now we can see if he adjusts back. Regarding the missed called strike three I think people are exaggerating that. He did get screwed on some but the box on tv isn’t the same as the umps get graded on - I think it is human nature to remember the missed ones and forget about all the called strike outs where the pitch was clearly a strike. Having said all that his at bats are fun to watch as it’s always a battle. At the end of the day I still believe in what TK always said: you really don’t know what you have in a hitter until they have 1000-1500 at bats.
  2. I would offer Julien and SWR. If that isn’t enough then go sign Clevinger.
  3. Still think TK had the best view of young hitters. You don’t know what you have until they get 1000-1500 at bats. And that works both ways ie maybe Miranda will bounce back. Regarding Julien: he got screwed on a bunch of called third strikes but he took more legit called third strikes. When you refuse to swing at close pitches with two strikes that is going to happen.
  4. This is not my definition of high ceiling. Hard pass.
  5. I agree. People naturally want to attribute his decline to negative personal attributes. My theory for what it is worth is that as fastball velocities increased Sano couldn’t adjust especially fastballs up in the zone. He could handle the sinkers down but just didn’t have the bat speed to catch up to the new age velocity up in the zone.
  6. No way I’m including Festa and Prielipp in this deal. What we are seeing in all these trade scenarios is that trading for good pitching is really expensive. My opinion is that we used up our surplus on the farm. Future trades are gonna hurt.
  7. This is from memory but I believe Ryan obtained Bartlett in a trade with the Padres. Twins gave up Buck Buchanan? Who never did much.
  8. My whole thing is I’m not interested in acquiring a middle rotation guy. I want another big swing like Pablo López. That means Polo and Kep ain’t getting it done. That’s why I put Julien front and center as a starter. Add Kepler and a prospect and we might have something.
  9. I think we should give a hat tip to the FO for the whole Gray trade. They flipped a 26 th draft pick to get two years of Sonny at way below market salaries and will now get a 33rd ish pick. I’m glad they let him walk. They played this perfectly. im torn on Maeda. He got a reasonable contract and the depth would have been great but between health and age there is some decent downside risk. I hope the Twins go big and get a young starter with upside. Not interested in using valuable trade assets for innings eaters.
  10. Well I’ve been watching the Twins for over 50 years so yea I’m familiar with Bostock. I like Julien but apparently not like you which is completely fine.
  11. That’s funny. I’m with you.
  12. Okay. The main point is these guys are not a part of a good bullpen.
  13. I would rather have Kenta at 12 million than Kyle Gibson at 13.
  14. Love this. I’d do it in a heartbeat.
  15. This. If you are going to expend valuable trade assets get a difference maker.
  16. I would hang on to SWR as he still has a chance. The rest of them are literally non factors. If we have to use any of them extensively in 2024 it will mean we have a crappy bullpen. Again. More proof that prospects fail at every level with the jump to the big leagues being the hardest. When Balazovic was having a very hot and miss season at AA I posted something to the effect that pitchers who end up being good in the majors typically don’t have the ups and downs he had in AA. This observation was highly unpopular but it’s really hard to make the show and stay there.
  17. Polo and Kepler are valuable to win now teams. No rebuilding club wants them. How many clubs fit that description I don’t know. Seattle and the Yankees come to mind. However all clubs would be interested in Julien I would think. Can someone tell me what Juliens trade value is compared to Polancos?
  18. Seems about right. Kind of surprised the Twins weren’t in for that deal.
  19. It will be interesting to see how other front offices will value Max. Will they give any weight to the last two months or focus on the prior years
  20. One factor in play here is that two years ago he was playing Wisconsin high school baseball. It may take him awhile to adjust to the much higher level of pitching.
  21. If he has a full season next year like his second half he would. Mind you I’m not predicting that but I never thought he would have the second half that he did. Plus if they move him in the off season they can go out and add a right handed outfielder.
  22. I think trading him this off season will yield better value because the new club could extend the QO. At the deadline there is no QO. Granted this scenario is only valid if Max has a good year.
  23. Wow I hadn’t seen those babip numbers. Me think serious regression is on the way.
  24. I have no idea what to do here. I know that I wouldn’t extend him nor would I give him the QO. That means he’s a short term asset that would be good to cash in. It’s hard to know what to expect from him in 2024 but generally I would put more emphasis on the 2.5 years he was not good with the bat over the last half season. So all of the above means he should be moved. BUT we don’t have enough outfield depth to move him without bringing someone back in via trade or free agency which kind of brings us full circle. I suppose it would be worth it if we could bring in a younger right handed hitting outfielder but seems like really threading the needle.
