  1. Thank you. This whole story of relievers are so volatile and risky that you should never invest in them drives me nuts. You know what else is risky? Having a bullpen filled with crappy arms. You saved money but you accepted performance risk. You didn’t waste money and oh by the way your pen sucks. If you want to say the back end of pens are volatile- fine but that is because they are almost exclusively bad pitchers so of course they are volatile.
  2. His at bats against Sale last night were very good. He didn’t really chase and he competed hard - the 97 under the hands didn’t seem to bother him. Give him a shot at playing every day. This lineup needs a jolt and this is one of the few moves they have to achieve said jolt.
  3. I think this is part of the mess. Watkins assumed Max would get to third much quicker than he did. Max is a conservative guy when it comes to putting it out there. For example he may dive for sinking liners less than any other good outfielder I’ve seen. Having said all that this isn’t the first time Watkins has pulled the old split second stop and go. More confusion over there than there should be.
  4. I’m confused after reading this article. Why would the Twins keep a reliever as good as Mariano Rivera in AAA?
  5. Spot on. The job isn’t even the same as it was pre Falvey.
  6. This is spot on. I will add that I wish all the reps he was getting at SS in the minors would have included far more reps in CF where he is pretty rough. As TK always said you don’t know what you have until they have 1000-1500 at bats.
  7. I was thinking about that. Neither believes in their throwing arm and it shows especially when things get tight.
  8. They just have to play cleaner baseball. It seems like they give away a game per week with sloppy play. And it’s not a new thing - it’s been that way for a couple years now. IF they make the playoffs you cannot give away a game in a playoff series due to sloppy play or you will be out.
  9. Stings to waste a good start from a rookie pitcher. Julien is not a good fielder and he knows it. This really makes his yips in the field more challenging. I’m wrong plenty but stated numerous times that Julien and a prospect should have been dealt for a controllable starter last winter while his trade value was high.
  10. Especially with one out. Glass half full is he put pressure on the defense. Half empty is he is going to get thrown out on that play too much of the time.
  11. And Kiriloff s rehab has been halted again due to back soreness.
  12. As noted above Martin is starting to hit some. He is still rough in the OF (don’t get me started on why he played SS endlessly in the minors) but I would run him out there instead of Margot every time. Gleeman had an interesting note: Larnach has been killing cutters. Both homers last night were off cutters. Apparently the Cards don’t have an analytics department.
  13. Savvy play by Vasquez. He correctly guessed the contact play was on and figured the runner might be leaning. He was coming out of his crouch as the pitch was on its way so he was really quick getting the ball out.
  14. The article implies that the Twins were seriously considering bringing them back and opted not to at the last minute. The Twins didn’t even consider bringing them back which was the correct decision. Gray said as much in yesterday’s Trib. He knew right away they weren’t going after him. The idea that the saved money was critical to building the lineup is just false. It was the largest chunk of the $30 million payroll reduction.
  15. Did not realize Gonzalez had such a good arm. Also excited about DeAndrades ability in the field. Watching a smooth SS is a great pleasure.
  16. I think it’s time for people to temper their expectations for Raya. He’s just not that good at least so far. I think prospect ranking is propping up how people judge him.
  17. And there is no such thing as a low leverage reliever.
  18. Me too. I saw that and cussed. The $115 a month that I pay Direct TV just isn’t enough.
  19. I look at this as an opportunity. Max has been a good fielder but average to below average hitter especially right field. If the Twins want to score more runs or score more consistently then the corner outfield spots and first base are the places to improve. How or will they is a different question. I always had high hopes for Max as a hitter just because of that sweet swing. Guess there is more to hitting than having a sweet swing (see Kiriloff, Alex). I wish Max well and hope he has a good finish to his career.
  20. Do you think Correa would waive his no trade?
  21. Part of it is a little regression. He allowed zero homers up until recently and now he has given up 5. He’s a pleasant surprise in my book.
  22. My guess is due to payroll issues we might have to choose between Santana and Castro. I will take Castro without hesitation.
  23. We will see. Half of that (roughly I go from memory) is from last year with a 374 babip. I hope he turns into Rod Carew but this book is in its first chapter.
