This is a good point. They could miss the playoffs as easily as they could make them. And if they miss them the Twins will have two groups of fans: angry in one and apathetic in the other.
Yep. I mean I hope they make the playoffs but they are right on the edge. There is no guarantee they make it. If they miss the playoffs this year look out. The negative vibe towards ownership / FO will be over the top I truly wonder if the Twins brass understands how their fan base (also known as their customers) feels about them.
I’m not surprised that no moves were made. Falvey has made it clear they are aiming ongoing competitive success and all deals are made with an eye toward the future. With so many extra playoff teams I think the trade deadline now is a poor way to improve your club as choices are fewer and prices are higher.
The time to address the obvious need for starting pitching was last off season. I don’t think it can be overstated how bad last offseason was for this franchise.
SWRs outing was, in a way, a reminder that the guy has pitched pretty darn well. Just a couple of clunkers like last night which will happen to all pitchers. His expected numbers are higher but still pretty good.
This FO has made it clear their overall goal is sustainable success. I highly doubt they trade any of our better prospects to take a stab at 2024. The time to add a good starter was last winter and we didn’t.
If the deal is reasonable I would not let next year deter me from adding Cortes. Frankly I think it would be nice to have 6 guys competing for 5 spots. Eventually we will need all 6 and then some.
Well Forbes reported that the Twins made $19 million last year. I think I’m going to trust that more than your “insight”.
On a broader scale the value of a business is determined by how much income it generates. The fact that the value of the Twins has gone from $44 million to $1.5 billion tells you they are making money. Lastly the Pohlads aren’t stupid. They have hundreds of millions dollars invested in this franchise. They aren’t going to stand for not making a competitive rate of return on all that money. Hell they could have it in the stock market and make an historical rate of return of 15%.
This is spot on. If you are going to do something make a difference. Unfortunately the Twins will not risk the chance that he gets hurt and picks up the player option.
