Players Who Went Right To The Major Leagues
Blyleven2011 commented on Paul D's blog entry in Paul Danesi
It was Eddie's best pitched game in his short playing career ... Big crowd for the debut of Bane against Clyde ... fourth of July 1973 ... -
The key words are " should they " ... The way they have operated in the past off seasons and deadlines tells me there going to rely on what we have and add minor league contracts with invites to spring training ... We can only hope for a difference maker ...

With the roster at 37 , and all players tendered contracts ii don't think there will be much trading , alot of minor league signings and invites to spring training for players to fill out the roster ... The FO currently likes this team going forward and seems to be going the cheap route once again , will the holes be filled ? ... Castro to me is tradeable with his contract to high for the twins , could return a left handed reliever or righted bat or even a first basemen ... Like i said earlier , they like and have confidence in the current team , WHY , because the 2023 deadline , no trades , 2023-24 they didn't fill all the holes on the roster and 2024 deadline they made no trades , that there tells me it's not going to be an active offseason ... What will they do this off season ? , not much they can do with the budget restraints but roll with the same players for 2025 with no key acquisitions ... Please prove me wrong ...

Are Trevor Larnach And Matt Wallner Redundent?
Blyleven2011 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So Google is not smarter than a fifth grader ... Thanks for clearing this up and I enjoyed watching his improvement this past season .... -
Castro should be tendered and then most likely traded for a return of something ... Stewart because of injuries I'm on the fence of not tendering ... Tonkin most likely is non tendered ... topa will be tendered because he was involved with the Polanco trade that hasn't rewarded the twins yet , FO wants aleast another year to redeem themselves on that trade ... The rest will be tendered , who do we have to replace them at a lower price , there could be some trades from the tendered players ... Then again , they could tender all of them and roll the same as 2024 , who knows what the FO is thinking , We'll be right here again tomorrow on the decisions ...

Are Trevor Larnach And Matt Wallner Redundent?
Blyleven2011 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Larnach went to driveline last off season and showed significant better results , he should be back there again this off season and hone his skill even more , 2024 could have been his last season in a twins uniform if he didn't show production , he did and he stays another year ... Wallner had a horrid start to the season and was sent to AAA to find himself , he needs to go to driveline this off season to hone his batting eye ... As far as defense they are both adequate at the corners , if they work hard they can be better , the FO and Rocco should also try both of them at first base in spring training to give them versatility , see in spring training if it is possible one of them could be a decent first basemen ... The only thing redundant on the roster is the injuries ... -
You nailed this except , if we were fortunate to land Sasaki I would much rather have the experience of Vazquez and trade jeffers , if jeffers defense was better with his bat , I'd keep him , but after 3 or 4 seasons jeffers is who is is , nothing personal but jeffers is just around average on defense with a streaky bat ... If we are out on Sasaki , I like the idea of buying a catcher from the Dodgers system that can hit and play above average defense with the international money , the reports are that the Dodgers have 3 catchers close to MLB ready .... Catching used to be the most important position on the field and if they hit it was a plus ... Let's give a toast to a successful offseason , if the front office doesn't get creative , I will continue to NOT cut them any slack ...
-
I personally think Vasquez has earned his contract in 2024 , 2023 his defense was good , but hitting wasn't,, I'll take Vazquez defense and leadership over jeffers any day , hitting is a plus for a catcher and there are not that many good hitting catchers , both have been streaky in hitting with jeffers being alittle better .... Me ,personally I would trade jeffers with our AAA catcher as backup ĥ

Prospects ::: the front office likes to keep prospects , never trading them away and always losing them for nothing if they don't make the MLB team ... 1 . yes they have some room on the 40 man roster for the better players , our fringe players they need to make trades for younger players that dont need to be protected and they wouldn't have this problem every year ... 2 . They have to learn to evaluate our talent that is not going to be part of the future and package them in a trade for a player that's somewhat established in MLB and can play on the 26 man roster ... falvey is using the word creative more freely lately , it's time for him to act on his words ... keep the good ones like Raya ...

I think we have 7.5 million in international money , I saw it posted last week when a member posted that amount for a trade with the Dodgers ... the trade was , give some of the Dodgers the international money to boost dodgers chances better at getting Sasaki and we get back a good minor league catcher without giving up prospects ... I do like that idea , but I think the twins should put all there chips in acquiring sasaki first ...

We need to do something to strengthen our lineups offense , every player should be considered tradeable , find a decent player with good defense and can hit , but they better get it right on a choice in a trade , they haven't been all that good in getting players back from a trade ... I would talk to the orioles and rays , westburg and mead , rafaela has a contract already and I would be surprised I'd they would consider it , Yankees player I know nothing about ... It's hard to trade away prospect pitching but if we have a surplus ( which we haven't for many years ) , to better the team you have to be creative as falvey would say ..

Kitty had an amazing career and is a wonderful human being , very approachable just like Harmon , Rod and Tony too ... Today's game and players are alot different ... I remember when Calvin released him , I was maybe 10 , I cried but followed his whole career with joy ... Thanks kitty for the memories ... I definitely will watch the documentary , but have to go back to work now ...

Twins Trade Candidate Breakdown: Jhoan Duran
Blyleven2011 replied to Eric Blonigen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'd hate to trade him as well , but I could see the twins listening to offers ... Duran had a tremendous first year , the next year the league adjusted to him and started to surrender homeruns , he still had a decent second year , this past season he started the year on injured list and started his year with less velocity , he still averaged 100 mph but never could get the 104 or 105 velocity back , if the twins evaluators think he might be in for a major injury than I can see a reason for trading him , otherwise you keep him until the trade deadline and if we are not contending you trade him ... In my opinion his arm does bothers me a bit with last years injury and the loss of velocity , but what also bothers me is Rocco not using him strictly as the closer , his stats and my eye test shows he's better as a closer than a set up man .... -
Twins Trade Candidate Breakdown: Willi Castro
Blyleven2011 replied to Lou Hennessy's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Finally a reasonable trade to examine ... Castro's salary already has opened the door to a trade , good player and very versatile , many teams should be interested in him and the return might be better than you think if alot of teams covet Castro ... I'd definitely trade him and I wouldn't miss him , we should have internal options to replace him , maybe not as much versatility but a replacement none the less ( let the prospects have a chance , they keep getting older the longer there in the minors )... Trade a player that has high value and doesn't fit into our long term future ... -
Twins Trade Candidate Breakdown: Griffin Jax
Blyleven2011 replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Let's examine a Jax trade ... Let's not ... We had on paper a very good bullpen in spring training , Jax was the only real solid reliever for the season , sands and Duran were good , what happened to the rest of the bullpen story ... We've been clamoring for the team to have a quality bullpen for years and haven't put one together that can stay healthy .... If Jax becomes a starter , varland better be as gpod as jax as a replacement ... Jax has the makeup in mentality and physical capabilities to continue doing what he has done for the past 3 seasons , he isn't done yet and who knows he could have his career year next season ... Let's please look at examining other players that don't fit into our long term future , not our best ... -

Twins Trade Candidate Breakdown: Royce Lewis
Blyleven2011 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
( Lewis ) A françhise player to build around only comes around once in à great while ... All players should be considered tradeable but to trade Lewis would be hard to swallow ... What messed with lewis's approach at the plate in the second half of 2024 . Was it injuries , was it the mental approach to moving to second base or was it , he just doesn't like the game plan of the FO and Rocco .... Lewis is an intelligent baseball player , we have to figure out what went wrong and get it corrected ... Is he tradedable , sure , but he's to important to the twins going forward , his play is exciting and draws fans to the stands ... -
Twins Trade Candidate Breakdown: Chris Paddack
Blyleven2011 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No team is going to trade for paddack straight away , he would have to be packaged with other players ( see desclafini trade for Polanco , we wanted bullpen help and got topa and prospects , and we also got desclafini , and Seattle and giant's paid down his injuty plague salary ) , if another team wants to trade for 1 of our 40 man roster players , they would have to take paddack in the same deal , if we have to send money to the trading team , I say we keep paddack for the bullpen or as depth to fill an injury ... -
We have a lot of surplus infield players ... Lewis at third , Correa at shortstop , Lee at second , ( martin can spell at second ) , keashal is up and coming ... Castro makes alot of sense to trade due to money constraints and high trade value for his versatility , I like him but wouldn't miss him and it would give us the opportunity to retain Santana's defense at first bsse and his bat was alittle more productive than castro ... Twins need to give these players a stable position to play regularly and let them either keep it or play out of it ( why don't they train a player in the minor leagues to be a utility player instead of making position changes at the MLB level , keep a player in situations to succeed ) .... IMHO it's a train wreck shuffling these players around unless they are groomed for it in the minors ...

I don't care how old he is , since the injuries derailed his professional career he has been a under appreciated prospect ... Since he has been healthy he has proved he can play baseball and the results in minor leagues the past 2 plus seasons since healthy has proved it ... Since drafted I have watched this kid play , he earned his spot on the roster last year more than some others ... Now the brains of the twins need to let him play big league baseball to see if he can produce at this level , he can add speed to our game , play good Defense and maybe hit for power and a decent average ... Starts with adding him to the roster out of spring training , one player prospect that i want on the 26 man roster to prove others wrong that are down on him ...
