The Pohlad Empire (Part Three): Modern Airfare
Blyleven2011 replied to Peter Labuza's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In order to purchase a baseball franchise the other owners have to approve a sale of the new owners , either the other owners are just as ruthless as Carl was , or they were not aware of the business tactics of Carl and associates , if you have a conscience you might not have accepted Carl as a new owner in 1984 , but as the old saying goes , MONEY TALKS AND BULL**IT WAĹKS ... I hope there is baseball in heaven and I don't have to see Carl there , the rich have sold there soul for the greed of money , they don't deserve the reward ... I'm happy with the little bit of money I've earned and saved , it's not alot but I might not spend it all before I go ... -
Trading castro with value and a 6 million salary makes the most sense to me and bring back value , he's played well on the team but we have in homegrown players to really fill all of his position , he is kinda a luxury ... If the twins were contenders I would consider an extension for Castro , I liked what Castro does for the twins , maybe they have or are trying to trade him but falvey placed to high of a value the trading partners shied away from acquiring him ...

There's good reason that the prospects are failing , especially since this current FO has taken over ... I've said it many times , the prospects in the minors are very capable of playing baseball and developing their skills for minor league baseball , but once in the major leagues it seems like our manager and coaches don't emphasize enough fundamentals to play the game the right way ... At the major leagues level you still have to teach , take the talent that you have and make the talent better , fix their weaknesses so they can stay in the show , Kepler and Sano are only 2 examples , they were on the team to long , where other teams would have given up on them long before .... Other prospects are coming up and have had decent minor league stats but haven't shown us any real value yet , YOU just can't tell the young man to just go out and play the game , the player has to take the field with the right mental approach and preparation ... We have more than enough coaches , more than we have ever had , why aren't we getting the results that we should be seeing ... I rest my case , coaching at the major league level is a must , name of the game is pitching , hitting , fielding and no injuries please ...

Carl bought a team and he didn't even have an interest in baseball , passed it on to his sons and they hated baseball even more ... Attendance is down in Minnesota because the owners have no interest in the game , don't know how to promote their team , don't care about the fans ... Goes to show you , owners have to have an interest in the sport to succeed , you can run it as a business but you have to also care about the product , pohlads care about money only ...

I don't think they could organize or explore to navigate out of a brown paper bag , it's alot of twins gibberish before twinsfest .... Why couldn't they communicate with the fans earlier in the offseason and just tell us to be patient and that they would explore and be creative at making the team better , I'm not saying contenders , because I'm not a pretender ...

The Twins Almanac: Weekend Edition
Blyleven2011 replied to Matt Johnson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like these almanacs , good Wright up .... I do have to disagree with 2016 being the worst season for the twins , 1990 wasn't good but 1991 the twins went from last to first so they redeemed themselves , 2021 and 2022 and the start of 2023 , and the end of 2024 were some of the most laughable bad playing games I have ever witnessed , the reason I don't think 2016 was the worst is because we lost a tremendous amount of 1 run competitive games ... Thanks and keep them coming ...- 4 replies

What i like the most is twins baseball ... What I like the least is our manager and coaches not taking out talent from AAA to the next level of the major leagues , it seems our talented prospects stall at the major leagues or they just weren't ready to be called up ... You never stop learning to play the game and our manager and coaches should emphasize this to the players , take that talent and make that talent even better ... You just can't tell a young man , go play baseball, you've got to help their weaknesses , other managers help there players get better , past and present ... I will never cut our manager and coaches any slack , because the players may take the field but there are alot of games they don't come to play , sloppy sloppy baseball because they don't know how many outs there are , on the bases they run into outs on stupid mistake , out fielders can't hit the cutoffs or throw to the right bases , hitting suckks at times against good pitchers because they lack discipline and adjustments at the plate , even mediocre pitching the hitting make the opposing pitcher look like a Cy young candidate ... I'm not sorry for the negativity , I'm just telling you of the reality of the twins and management , that will not place better than 3rd in our central division , but I'll follow every game always because of the love of the game of baseball , I live for opening day and the world series and everything in-between ... go twins ...

Jeffers is traded for a bullpen guy that has a player option after each season for 4 million , I don't see the logic in that and I hope our front office isn't crazy enough to do that trade ... While we are short handed in the catching department , I'm not sure if an extension is wise for jeffers , I just haven't seen enough consistency year to year ... Baseball has changed and they now use two catchers for the season ( if healthy ) to split the equal share of catching for the season ... Believe it or not their has been alot of great catchers that squatted 140 games a season and hit too , you have to be mentally prepared to do that though ...

Good logic doc , While lots of others don't think Vazquez defense is above average , I do , so I guess i must be watching the games with rose colored glasses because i see him doing everything right ... I'll take Vazquez's defense , smarts and durability over jeffers any day ... It's falvey and the pohlads who signed off on signing him for 10 million a year and fans should get over that , we needed a solid catcher and they signed one ... Is Vazquez worth the money , nobody is worth the money that these players are getting , in my day there wasn't so many prima donnas as today , we played because we loved the game ... Last twins player that I have seen play for the love of the game is luis ( major leaguer ) arraez ...

I hear ya , I should have mentioned larnach adjusted better , started hitting off speed pitchers and cut down his strikeouts ... Wallner is who he is , hits the ball extremely hard and far when he connects , but strikeout are way to high , needs discipline in the box ... I'll take larnach over wallner to have a longer career , I'm not always right ...

Martin went through his rookie season better than a few others , with some more experience and regular playing time he could even improve , I to agree his power is not his strength and isn't needed if he hits singles , 35 or more doubles , 10 triples , and steals 30 or more bases he might end up being a leadoff hitter someday ... if Martin can find a groove to get on base in front of players that do have power to drive in , that would be acceptable to me ... runs and rbi's matter more to me than the Twins players that hit to many solo homeruns , I like homeruns , but I like a clutch 3 run homerun better when the pressure is on for a game changer ... We don't exactly know what we have in Martin , some players adapt slower to the major leagues than others , the others that adapt fast are superstars and martin isnt a superstar, need more time to evaluate him ... SWR made better strides this year than anyone ever could imagine , he's going to have to build up more stamina and make adjustments to the hitters , some say he ran out of gas , some say other teams adjusted to him in the last couple of months , whatever the case may be he has work to do ... The coaches also have work to do , you've heard me say that once a player gets to the big leagues , it a level harder to play than AAA , a talented player comes up so the coaches should take that talent and coach them to be a better talent , they are coached in the minors but once in the majors it seems the coaches don't make the necessary steps to coach the highly talented to a faster, better way of fundamental baseball and then they end up as a AAAA PLAYER ...

I see Jax had no rating last year from 2023 , but now has a rating after the 2024 season , I find that odd because he was very good in 2023 also ... I also would switch larnach with wallner , larnach improved his hitting and should continue to get better , wallner got off to a terrible start in 2024 but put together a good not great season in 2024 ... It's a interesting essay to say the least , and if a team wanted a really good shortstop , Correa would fetch a good return from a high revenue team able to take the salary off our books , I've seen it before , Boston would be my guess needing a shortstop and right handed bat , we'll see ...

The situation we are in is crippling the front office , they either go with what they have for 2025 and a payroll of 140 million ... Fans should at least try and get answers at twins fest as we corner falvey with questions ... I'm not going because I stated I'm not spending money on the twins until I see a contender and not a pretender , hope our fabulous writers will be there drilling falvey ( seth or nick would be my favorite to accomplish this ) ....

Sorry to say this list so far is way out of wack , but its only numbers ... Correa on yesterday's list ... Matthews on today's list ahead of SWR ... There isn't much we know about our young players because they really haven't been in the league long enough to evaluate what they are capable of ( need 3 years to determine what type of player they will be ) ....

Thanks Seth , When I seen the post I got excited we might have an on field player development coach , I did see on trade rumors later that it was more FO personal ...

I'm not concerned with starting pitching unless there are injuries , bullpen the same , we will have depth but how good will the depth be ??? If they don't make anymore moves I'm Allright with it because most of the best players are signed or out of our price range ... I'm fine with the younger players given the opportunity to show if they can stick in the majors , got to give the rookies more of a chance then they did last year ... We've been used to it for years , Calvin years and pohlad years , we played from our development , lately or since our new target field we've gone away from that so it seems ... Build a core from within and bring back our identity ...
