Spring training there are always talks about extentions ... Is it the right thing to do , i would like the FO to at least explore it but not necessarily , go through the process and feel it out with lewis this year ... then next year if he has 500 ats bats by staying healthy and is a game changer , then jump back in a work on a deal that has incentives due to possible injures ... And remember insurance is taken out on these big contract , what percentage I think it's about 80 percent and it is costly , but in the long run it helps the team , it doesn't cut salary but it helps get some money back for budget ... I'd take the risk for Lewis after this season , please stay healthy royce ...

Doc , I think Miranda starts in aaa and he has to earn his way back , that's what I would do , not just hand it back to him after his injured year ... Santana is good defensively but who knows if age has caught up to him , switch hitter ( Santana) to replace Polanco ( switch hitter ) , that part makes alittle sense on paper but well see how it plays out , can he continue to hit alittle above average ( Santana ) , let's hope so ...

Hitting , hitting and more hitting is what we need and last years rookies sparked the lineup in the second half along with Polanco .... The twins batters were flat the first half and we can't have that again ... We are going to have to score more runs per games , starting pitching isn't quite the same as last year , they kept us in alot of games , and the bullpen didn't get worn down last year as previous years ... Now they have added depth in the bullpen and it appears on paper to finally be the strongest part of the team ... I think FO finally felt they needed a bullpen of strength cause they also see the starting pitching not rock solid ...

I don't disagree , just giving my thoughts on the remaining free agents that haven't signed yet ... I agree the Twins would have to over pay for a one year , but if that player hasn't every had a qualifying offer from a team and the Twins offered one and the player turned it down then there is value there as well with a comp pick and player stays healthy , its risky for both sides but a team could consider it ...

Take into consideration , keirsey was a 4th round pick in 2018 and he suffered injuries up to the 2022 ... In 2022 fully healthy he had a fairly good year , in 2023 he started showing promise , you mentioned why he was eligible for the rule five draft and that his bat won't play in the major leagues ... One more healthy good season and I like his chances of making the Twins roster if healthy this year , he plays a prime position ... I want him to earn his promotion , I don't want it just handed to him ( example celestino if i spelled it right )

Give keirsey a chance , the past 2 seasons he has had his health and 1 more decent season and he'll get on our 40 man roster or other teams are going to noticed him and they will either get him in the rule five draft or the Twins trade him to a team that likes him better .... Give him time , he has developed the past 2 seasons while healthy , you can't play good ball when injured ( see buxton for example ) ...

Mostly because he has been injured since signing , his last 2 seasons have been better healthy and he has shown his ability to produce , his defense is very good ... If he has another good year healthy and produces he will definitely get noticed by hopefully our club , but another club will definitely pick him up in the rule 5 , unless he's traded or is protected on 40 man roster ... It's up to our club to take our home grown talent and instruct them into better players ,,, keirsey has talent that shouldn't be over looked ....

Stretch reliever , who did we offend that we had to change from long reliever ... Is the bullpen name going to finally change too ... Are some pitchers going to be offended by calling them piggyback pitchers ... I guess we will wait and see ...

Seth , my question is , now that Balazovic is still in the organization , will he get an invite to spring training ??? Kiersey Jr I have been keeping my eye on since drafted , now that he has been relatively healthy the past 2 seasons , he is finally starting to produce and getting recognized , I'm really surprised nobody took him in the rule 5 , he's getting closer to the bigs if he stays healthy ... He won't make the opening day roster though ... Helman is another one that won't make the opening day roster , he could be on the roster sometime in 2024 ...

My real concern ... laŕnach , hopefully he worked hard this off season on improving on hitting the off speed pitches ... Wallner , I'm still not sold on his plate approach and all his strikeouts ... Castro had a good season for the Twins in 2023 , can he repeat in 2024 ??? We will need consistency from our hitters this year to score more runs as the rotation may not be as good as last year , as they kept us in alot of games in 2023 , will the starters repeat in 2024 ???

What is considered a whole year ??? What if Lee played lights out for 3/4 of the season and then God forbid an injury happened would he still be in the running for ROY award ??? Lee made it to AAA last year which is amazing to say the least , he didn't have outstanding numbers there , If he puts the bat on every ball in spring training , that would be the only way he he makes the team , if not , he will be at AAA for the start ... Can't wait to see him hitting alot of doubles for the Twins ...

Your right about not complaining about the bullpen , looks solid with plenty of depth ... Now they will complaining about the starting pitcher rotation ... I'm thinking the FO knows the starting pitching isn't as strong as last and the bullpen is going to be needed to shutdown any threats and our offense is going to need to score more runs ... Last years rotation kept us in the game ... Bullpen will be our MVP in 2024 , when was the last time anyone said that ???

The Twins Chose This Payroll Path
Blyleven2011 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It didn't have to be this way ... I was saddened when I heard Joe Pohlad say they aren't selling the team , ... I would really like an owner to go for it when it's in your grasp , yes they increased payroll the past couple of seasons , but this was not the season to cut payroll when a window of opportunity is building towards a goal of the world series ... Next year we might be in the same situation with the TV revenue , might be less than the what the judge just awarded bally to free up some money for the Twins ( could be 40 million this year , could be only 30 million TV REVENUE FOR 2025 ... Cutting the payroll is fine but not as substantial as they may go , I could see cutting it 15 million because of TV revenue , still at a 140 million payroll the Twins could have found some players to help , and with the Twins getting into the playoffs , wildcard , and ALDS and Quite possibly the ALCS and WORLD SERIES ... You make a good run in the playoffs and teams make more money , seems like the pohlads don't like taking risks ... They don't believe like us diehard Twins do . It didn't have to be this way- 69 replies

Baseball is definitely a great game but there are alot of very good players trying to fulfill their dreams ... Players have usually 4 steps to move up and develop , A ball to AAA and then possibly the majors ... Balazovic has had some good seasons in the minors to create excitement up until his debut in AAA , the 2020 missed season of development was costly I'm sure then moved up to AAA in 2022 and 2023 didn't go good in 2022 and was better in 2023 , Balazovic made it to the show , did he really deserve it with the 2023 numbers at AAA ... I'm sure he lost confidence on the way , another prospect that will have to figure it out with another team ...
