  1. In lieu of SP, which we knew wasn't coming, building up the bullpen made sense. Unfortunately age, injury and lack of expected results have decimated the bullpen. I still think Julien will figure it out, but Kiriloff, Martin & Wallner have been hugh disappointments. Miranda & Lanarch have picked up some of the slack, but the money spent on DeSclafimi, Margot & Santana could have been better spent elsewhere. ($15M) Gurriel & Imanaga come to mind. We need to do better in international free agent youth signings (Della Cruz & Acuna types) and don't forget that every team passed on Aaron Judge - 32nd pick.
  2. The Twins draft waaay to many middle infielders. They are overly intrigued by "all around athletes " to the detriment of the organization. They need to focus of 5 tool OF, power hitting 1B & SP. Steer, Rocker, Lee, Martin, Julien, etc... Don't draft any more of these players!
  3. Paddock is one of the few who has stepped up. The bullpen was supposed to be a strength, but injuries have imploded it. How did Imanaga get passed on by everybody? 4 yrs 53M is an absolute steal. The ownerships short sightedness on SP and a LF power hitter will continue to diminish the value of their brand. Meanwhile Eddie Rosario was available for a minor league contract?? He may not be lighting the world on fire yet, but his 6HR and better defense than the current -6 we have in LF would have helped a lot!
  4. Paddock & Ryan throw 93 & get a ton of K's. It really is all about location and movement. There are guys who 97 and get hit hard. For Duran, he should just go after them with the 4 seamer and splinker for ground balls with men on base. Simplify it.
  5. Agreed. Also, how did we pass on Shota Imanaga?? He was a known commodity. $53M for 4 years was not only affordable, it's an absolute steal!!
  6. It's all about product & brand for mid market teams like the Twins and the Polads are failing miserably at that. They need to find a way to void their contract with Bally Sports since they lost half or their distribution network and are already bankrupt. The Twins will never see a dime from Bally. Then put all away games on local TV in their extended multi state fan base area in order to build fan support (brand). Then spend a few $$ and sign a healthy needed pitcher/OF. (Product) Wasting windows of opportunity by not supporting the product is killing the brand!! Simple as that.
  7. Great, now all 3 players we got for Polanco are out. Topa won't throw until July. And that's if he doesn't end up needing surgery. Martin & Kiriloff & Wallner have been hugh disappointments. Time to bring up Kiersey or anyone else who can actually play outfield. The bullpen is toast, barring a miracle. Thanks Polads for making us a perennial pretender.
  8. I had high hopes for Martin, but so far he & Kiriloff & Wallner have been hugh disappointments. I still have hopes for the latter two, but Martin seems to have a long way to go in order to make an impact. Fortunately Lanarch & Miranda have rebounded nicely. Let's hope the others do or some new blood breaks through.
  9. SWR off today. Back to reality when you throw 0-2 meatballs right down the middle. I said last week this bullpen was smoke & mirrors. Twins are in trouble without Stewart, Topa, Varland in the pen.
  10. One word sums it up : CHEAP. As I'm foolishly trading for & signing 3 players we didn't need who were cheap. Miranda, Varland/SWR, Martin were already here and better than Santana, DeSclafani, Margot, Topa. $15M wasted which could have filled the gaping hole in LF ever since Rosario left. Yes let our young lefty swingers hit leftys. While Martin has not lived up to my expectations yet, he has far more upside than Margot. IDK if Kiersey is the answer, but Margot has to go. If Brooks Lee can catch fire & play 3B, then (as much as I hate to say it) put Lewis in LF. Problem solved. We really need Stewart, Varland, Topa back in the pen. The bullpen, touted as a strength, is a weak link right now. There is hope, but not much depth until/if people get healthy. This latest run has been smoke and mirrors and will not continue. Vasquez is leaning forward at the plate and will never hit like that. Kiriloff needs to step up and take 1B. Then he and Miranda can fill that role & trade Santana. Cut Margot and fill his spot with Martin, Lee or Kiersey.
  11. An actual pipeline should have 4-6 contenders in AA -AAA knocking on the door. Thankfully Varland/SWR are adding up to one. Festa & Raya aren't ready. After them, the cupboard is bare! It would be nice to trade excess pitching for a slugging outfielder for once. We seem to have a never ending supply of 2B/SS to trade for damaged pitching however. Quit drafting infielders! 5 tool Sluggers like Jenkins, check. Pitchers - we've found some late round guys, but we need to find some first round gems.
  12. Great article - all true! Not only are they wasting a window of opportunity for the team (again!), they are completely missing the boat on generating a larger fan base, new fans and all the associated revenue that follows! Right now they should put every away hame on local TV for FREE just to make amends. They aren't making a dime from Bally, so why not build the fan base. They need to make a bold move, or they will fade back towards contraction. Lest they forget- 3Million fans showed up and saved the franchise to begin with. Lose them and you have nothing.
  13. Margot should have never been. We wasted $15M on 3 players we did not need. Could have signed a real outfielder like Gurriel or a decent pitcher. now we are scrambling without Buxton & Lewis. Ah Buxton, Dela Cruz has become everything we had hoped you would be.
  14. Bowman was DFA'd for Duran. Why is Funderburk down? There sure isn't much help over at the Saints. The lineup is weak. There seems to be 20 pitchers on the roster. 3 or 4 of whom could be useful. The hitters - yuk
  15. Pleased with Martin's showing so far. Better than Margot in every aspect and $4M cheaper. Trade him & bring Martin back. Never thought I'd say it, but Sands stretching out to be a starter may make sense.
  16. I'll admit I was a big fan of retaining Farmer for this season. I'd like to see video of his swing last year. From what I see now it's his wide open stance and Hugh leg kick that is way out of whack. He is not able to time anything correctly with that, nor make adjustments for reasonable contact. Lanarch ditched his leg kick for a level stance with his back hip coiled and ready. Much better balance to approach balls at different speeds and still make contact with a low outside curveball. The hitting coach should have made this change long ago. He should sit until he finds a swing.
  17. I have said all along that $15M was wasted on DeSclafani, Santana & Margot. We already had and have been forced to use Varland, Martin & Miranda. Farmers struggles mystify me the most. Since we didn't spend that $15M on pitching, we now have to hope SWR can grab the job. Meanwhile cut Margot & Santana loose as soon as we get people back.
  18. Their 2 strike approach is the biggest problem. Mauer, it seemed, would intentionally take two strikes, then proceed to hit the ball up the middle. That's how you win games - put the ball in play! Not to mention 2 batting titles. I have been a firm believer in Martin's style of play and approach at the plate. Wasting money on the likes of Margot & Santana, not to mention DeSclafani cost them $15M and the chance of signing a decent pitcher. Here we are with Martin, Miranda & Varland up anyways. And $15M poorer. And yes, Buxton is only good when he hits the ball to all fields, like he did in early 2022. Trying to pull a slider with two strikes is why we lead the league in strikeouts. Everyone seems to know this but the hitting coach. A bloop single, a stolen base & a couple of bunts will lead to a run. 3 K's with the bases loaded leads to zeros.
  19. The whole purpose of trading either or both Polanco & Kepler was to free up money to sign a SP. Wasting $15M on the likes of Santana, Margot & DeSlafani when we had and are now using Martin, Miranda & Varland anyways is insanity! We needed a SP! Maeda would look line a godsend right now. Meanwhile, how is Spencer Steer doing? We could have had him as well in the mix. Now we have to trade more prospects for pitching just to have a warm body to put out there every 5th day. This season could be over by June.
  20. At least they tried to beef up the bullpen, but that too has backfired as half of them are hurt. Trading for and penciling in DeSlcafani as #5, with only Varland & SWR as depth behind him was an insanely bad decision. SWR looked good in his outing and deserves another start, lest we be suffering the likes of Randy Dobnak as savior. The $15M we wasted on Santana, Margot & DeSclafani would have at least got us Maeda. Now we are in dire straights.
  21. High launch angles, high strikeouts, lots of HR is passable. Low angles, high strikeouts, no HR spells last place. Up the angles, hit line drives, use your speed and cut the K's in half or......
  22. 15 K's !?!? Maybe passable when we led the league in Hr last year, but we are dead last in HR so far this year. 15 bunts would have scored 2 or more runs. Cleveland put several weak balls in play and scored 3 runs! The next time there is a leadoff triple, they better be bunting!
  23. The $15M we spent on DeSclafani, Santana & Margot was an absolute waste! We had Varland, Martin & Miranda capable of filling those roles at league minimum and could have signed Gurriel or a pitcher instead. UGH!
