Twins 26/40-man Roster Moves/Transactions Thread - 2023

It's still a damn tough position for Duran to be put in. It's more than likely at least 1 run scores and you still need someone to pitch the 9th. I'm more surprised he didn't come out to pitch the 9th in the tie ball game instead of Ortega. Hindsight is 20/20. Twins were hitless for 5 straight innings at that point.

Great bounce back game for Kenta. Amazing game from Julien at the plate. Absolutely huge for AK to overcome a 4 straight strikeout performance to HR to give the boys some insurance runs late. Twins have scored 5+ runs in all 6 games since the break. Keep the train running and let's take 3/4 tomorrow.

How Much Does Sonny Gray Get Paid?
SwainZag replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The only way I think he stays in a Twin is if he accepts a qualifying offer. I can't see the Twins even thinking about offering what he could get on the open market, nor do I blame them.- 22 replies

Cron doesn't hit outside of Coors field and he is struggling this year. 2022 Splits: Coors: .303/.354/.601 22 HR 75 RBI 309 PA Away: .214/.279/.340 7 HR 27 RBI 323 PA 2021: Coors: .326/.412/.661 19 HR 68 RBI 274 PA Away: ,235/.337/.397 9 HR 24 RBI 273 PA 2023 numbers: .251/.297/.455 Good for .752 OPS and 91 OPS+ He seems to be on the downside of his career and hasn't hit outside of Coors field really since he was the Twins in 2019. I say hard pass on CJ.

I always thought that Gomez was in the big leagues too soon. Yes, he had the speed and the defense but his bat was far from developed. He never hit for power until 2013 season, which was 4 years after he was traded. Trading him away when they did always surprised me as well.

If Polanco was healthy he would probably be putting up Polanco-esk numbers and we wouldn't be hurting as much for offense this year. I think it's pretty clear that Julien isn't going to be a long term 2nd basemen. The Buxton debacle right now is what's clouding up Julien's immediate future IMO, especially with AK manning 1st. Then again if Kep and Gallo are both gone next year, AK could move to a corner and make way for Julien at 1st.....that is if they trust his glove there even. Most players get opportunities through injury or position openings when guys don't get extended, that's kind of the name of the game in baseball. You earn a spot by taking advantage of those opportunities unless you are a mega prospect.

And MLB pitching is MUCH hard to hit than AAA pitching. You named 8 guys who you think should be getting ML AB's, Who you taking off the 40 man and 26 man roster? Castro has better speed and positional flexibility than anyone you named. His OPS is low, but he was forced into a starting position much longer than he really should have been. He is a weapon off the bench. A competing team isn't going to DFA half their veterans to give guys who are 25-28 full time AB's because they hit over .800 OPS in AAA. Trevor Larnach is a prime example. He crushes AAA pitching and gets exposed by ML pitching...and he probably has the highest potential ceiling of the bunch. This seems like such a "grass is greener on the other side" type thing. You might not care about a division title, but I bet you the current players, front office and staff does.

I still think that Kepler is going nowhere. He is a much better defensive OF than AK, Larnach, and Wallner. His last 22 games he's hitting .278/.338/.514 with an OPS of .851. I know he's streaky and has a bad rep around here, but he has produced. With Lewis more than likely coming back sooner rather than later, I highly doubt they make a move for a 3B, especially with Farmer and Solano getting reps there. I still think the team should add a RH hitting OF and another bullpen arm.

Mariners 7, Twins 6: Sonny Gray Boils Down
SwainZag replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I didn't like the result,l but I don't mind Kep swinging at that pitch. Yes', Solano worked a great AB and got a walk, but it's not like Munoz couldn't find the plate. I'd rather see Kep ground out missing a good pitch to hit rather than see him try to flail at Munoz's slider which is more than likely coming if he gets ahead in the count.- 65 replies

Because he wants to play? Because he sees his role being taken. It's so easy for us from the sidelines to just toss guys on the IL. A young competitive player downplaying an injury to stay in the lineup....... not the first nor last time you will hear of it.

The problem is we don't see what goes on behind the scenes. If he trainers tell Byron his legs aren't there to play the OF but can still hit, who are you blaming? If Buck is killing the ball in practice and in the cages and the staff and manager feels he is an asset to the team... then what? It's really easy for fans to say, "Psssh 0-4!! He's a POS, put him on the IL! He can't play OF, then he can't hit!" You really think that Rocco knows he's injured and struggling, but keeps him batting third and risking his job because of Buxton's pay escalators?

You beat me to it! Saw him get the pinch hit call in the ninth tonight and didn't realize he had his debut last night.

Gray has shown to be the ultimate competitor. He has spoken out on more than one occasion over multiple seasons about being taken out of games too early. If anyone really thinks anyone with that mental attitude is going to walk away after what's his arguable best year and leave between $40-70M on the table is off their rocker.

2023 MLB Draft Day 1 Thread
SwainZag replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
😂😂 that's the fun in the draft! Then 60% of the first round will fail and pick #21 will be the best player in the draft and everyone in hindsight will go nuts that we didn't take him.- 130 replies
