  1. Baseball America had an article a few years ago about minor leagues and how many players make it to MLB. The average team's minor league system had 33 players that would make an appearance in the MLBs. Only 14 on average would go on to have at least 3 years in MLB. So, yes many of these prospects are not going to make a major impact at the MLB level. I still love reading about them, and seeing the ranking and projections. Hope them the best and that they can contribute to the Twins at some point. Like Seth has stated, some of these players at lower end of rankings or honorable mention are just an adjustment or two away from breaking out. My top 3 from these 10 are: Nowlin- great K rate, Enlow- I look for him to regain his stuff this year, and Severino- watched some of his games last year, if he can stay healthy could really impress.
  2. Miami has Alcantara, Rogers, Luzardo, Cabrera, and Lopez, with Eury Perez and Max Meyer(post elbow surg) on the way up in the future. They also signed Cueto this offseason. Miami has plenty of starting pitching options, can afford to trade at least one good SP. They need hitters. To get a pitcher with years of control yet, may need to offer same in position player with some MLB experience. No one has mentioned Miranda, maybe a package of Miranda and Kepler and as Nashvilletwin suggested throw in one of former first round picks Sabato or Cavaco-maybe both.
  3. I am excited about Moran, agree he is not ready for high leverage opportunities but definitely should have a solid hold of a position in the Twins bullpen. Moran is probably never going to have closer type stuff but I look for him to develop into a solid 7th or 8th inning set up man.
  4. Rebuild to me means getting rid of experienced players and moving to young players. Twins only have 3 players with contracts past next year-Buxton, recently signed Vasquez, Dobnak and 2 more with team options after next year-Kepler and Polanco. Gray, Meada, and Gallo are in last year of contract. Twins have 2 entering last year of arbitration will be FAs after next year-Pagan and Mahle and 4 with 2 years of arbitration Theilbar, Farmer, Lopez, and Paddock. Agree, out of that bunch-Polanco, Kepler, Maeda, Gray, and Mahle have the most trade value, besides Buxton- hopefully Twins not trading him. Has the rebuild already begun?
  5. Hope Contreras signs minor league FA deal with Twins, good depth at AAA.
  6. Time will tell how good an investment Correa is for the Mets. If he performs well the next 3-4 years is that enough, 6-7 years of high level performance, don't like the odds of Correa being anything more than an average player the last 3-4 years of the contract. Mets probably can afford that, but Twins cannot.
  7. I really like the purpose of the Rule 5 draft, to give a player a chance that is buried in a team's minor league system to be on a MLB team. I feel Baddoo would not have even made the Twins MLB level 2 years ago, most likely would have spent the season in the minors. Good for him, he got an opportunity and had some success. Twins are not out much, have plenty of OFs, Baddoo not going to be an allstar.
  8. Twins FO seems to like to build depth first. Just signed Camargo to be AAA catcher, so maybe MLB catcher move coming soon.
  9. Not sure what Twins did differently in 2019, Rocco's first year, but there were only a few injuries to SP and only short IL stints. SP of Berrios, Odorizzi, Pineda, Gibson, and Perez had few injuries, Pineada had fewest starts at 26 and IP at 146. Berries had 32 starts and 200 IP, other 3 had 29-30 starts and 159-165 IP.
  10. There will be players released, DFA'd, traded. Only one catcher on 40 man, usually carry 3, need a SS, additional pitching. 40 man roster not finalized yet. But agree, maybe Rule 5 addition may not improve 26 man since need to carry Rule 5 addition on MLB roster and Twins may pass on Rule 5 addition. Who are 6 pitchers doubtful for 2023, I only count Canterino and Paddock. Others have injury concerns but are likely to pitch in 2023; Mahle, Maeda, Winder, Alcala.
  11. Cave is who he is. He was a good emergency OF to sign to a AAA contract. He contributed at the MLB level when called upon. He was a good teammate. Would not mind Cave being signed again to a AAA contract, but not on 40 man roster.
  12. What about Lawyerson at AA? After Varland and SWR moved up to AAA, Headrick and Lawyerson were battling to be considered the best pitcher at Wichita.
  13. Don't see Urbina as a need to add to 40 man. He only hit .250 at low A, and a short season. Can't see someone taking a shot at him or if they did, Urbina having success next year at the MLB level.
  14. Thanks for the great reporting on the minor league season by TD staff
  15. I don't think the article's point is that there were not any negatives this season. Just that there were a few positives.
  16. I think Martin has been mishandled, was not ready for AA when Blue Jays had him there. Should have at least put at high A and let him have some success before moving up. Too much pressure to produce power, he is not built for power. Need a RH OF, Garlick cannot stay healthy-time to move on from him. Celestino has had some moments but hitting wise looks like a 4th/5th OF and can only play OF. Can see Martin as RH version of Gordon, able to play multiple positions IF and OF. Let Martin be who he is hitting wise, high OBP, SB threat, occasional power.
  17. Watched Festa pitch last night, looked dominant. 2 hits were a swinging bunt and a bloop single. Tall and skinny, room to develop and get stronger. Hope he starts in AA next year, and progresses to AAA if does well, maybe a shot at Twins like Varland this year.
  18. When does money become less of the issue compared to winning. Correa is making 35M this year, he could retire after this year and live comfortably the rest of his life. I could see Correa picking up option if he thinks he will not make 70M the next 2 years elsewhere and is willing to bet on himself still producing at high level in 2 years and being able to sign significant contract then. Maybe he likes playing for Twins and feels they will be competitive the next 2 years. I am not putting any worth on what he or anyone else is saying at this time. Correa is smart, not going to come out and say he is opting out at end of year during the season especially since Twins are in divisional race.
  19. I don't mind this move, low risk, can DFA if 40 spot needed. I just would rather see spot give to Sisk to and let Sisk get some time at MLB level so see what he can do. Could really use another LHP in BP.
  20. Twins are in better position with SP next year than the previous 2. 2 years ago needed to bring in 4 SP and last year 3 SP. No need next year to bring in Happ, Shoemaker, Archer, Bundy types, so definitely some improvement. FO has done well developing and acquiring depth in the Twins system, to point they were able to make some trades at deadline to address biggest team weakness. Now, as has been mentioned in posts, need to improve quality. I would like to see Twins use some of their depth to acquire front of rotation starter in off season. Can't have too many quality starting pitchers.
  21. I agree with some discontent, Correa is a very good leader for Twins and defense has been very good, but hitting is subpar for him. It is my understanding is his contract has a player option for next year, why would he opt out, he is never going to get $35M on open market unless he has massive upswing in production the last 2 months of season. Looks like Correa will be a Twin next year to me, unless Twins can pull off an offseason trade.
  22. Jeremy, Jim Kaat was playing when MLB started the draft, he would prefer free agency. In regards to under-slotting, would definitely rather see Twins draft best available early and under-slot in later rounds than under=slot early. Quality over quantity.
  23. Like top of Twins draft, the under-slotting is what I dislike most about the MLB draft. In the NFL does a team not take a player in the 4th round because they can't afford to-"pool savings", so they take a lesser player. Think MLB draftees should be in or out, maybe give opportunity to change mind after first and second days.
  24. Unlikely Rocker, or anyone drafted this year, plays in MLB this year.
