  1. I like Castro, he is definitely above Gordon for me. Better defensively, and can play more positions at higher level. Castro is best SB threat on the Twins. He is an average hitter but that is what you would expect from a defense, speed type utility player- if he could hit better would be fulltime player. I don't know if Castro is in Twins longterm plans 4-5 years, but seems a lock for rest of year and should get first opportunity for utility role next year.
  2. Buxton's been painful to watch, it will be hard for him to make necessary adjustments midseason against MLB pitching. Put Buxton on IL, extended rehab assignment, put him in room and have him watch 2021 Buxton for a week, then work on adjustments on rehab assignment.
  3. Should have moved on from Pagan in offseason, would have been better for Twins and Pagan. My take on the Twins is they don't like to release players they owe money. With Pagan signed for the year, doubt if released until late in year or a late year trip to IL and never return.
  4. I would put Funderburk around #5. LH reliever, should get some time with Twins this year.
  5. Funderburk looks promising, may need to prove himself more at AAA before get opportunity with Twins, Father time may be catching up to Theilbar this year and Moran has been inconsistent, will be need for LH relief.
  6. Great article, enjoyed the detailed information. In regard to automated balls/strikes, many calling for the review instead of automated calling of all pitches. If that is the case, framing would still be an important skill. Defense for a catcher is the most important part of their game, look at Twins game yesterday, tying run scored on passed ball.
  7. Look forward to this update daily, got to watch some of games on MiLB TV. Julien struggled in the field. Hoping Enlow can get things going this year, good first start. CR going to be fun to follow with all the prospects.
  8. Thanks Seth for rosters, great information. I sure there will be plenty of surprises, good and bad. Really hard to make it all the way to MLB.
  9. The complicating factor is Maeda's contract has incentives for games started. He may look at a move to relief as a way to keep his salary down. Maeda should be ready for the season, maybe not 6-7 innings for first few starts. It is an unusual position for the Twins to have the 6th starter, a legitimate MLB starting pitcher. I look for Ober to get plenty of starts for the Twins next year, then to be in top 5 of rotation in 2024.
  10. Julien is on 40 man roster so increases his chances of playing at MLB level this year, especially compared to Martin. But, still has to prove himself at AAA level. Hopefully, Julien makes it hard for Twins to keep him at AAA.
  11. I look for Twins to add Hand after putting players on 60 day IL. Should be a good addition, experienced, LH pitcher. Will be plenty of opportunity for Megill and others that don't make opening day roster, likely to need another 8 bullpen arms through the year. Great to have depth, playing time will work its way out on the field over the year.
  12. I am not in the Urshela camp. He had a good year and by all accounts was a good teammate, but expendable. Miranda will be much more comfortable at 3B than 1B, Urshela's defensive metrics were nothing to get excited about. I agree in future may see Correa, Lewis, Lee in some combination at 3B, SS, 2B. I am a little pessimistic about Kirilloff and maybe Miranda's long term position in 1B but for this year like him at 3B.
  13. Big year for Martin, needs to take a step forward. Looking at him physically, don't see much power potential. He is not very big. Will he develop into a Gordon type player, able to play all over the field?
  14. Signing with Miami seems odd with the pitching depth Marlins have. Best of luck to Devin, will be rooting for him.
  15. Baseball America had an article a few years ago about minor leagues and how many players make it to MLB. The average team's minor league system had 33 players that would make an appearance in the MLBs. Only 14 on average would go on to have at least 3 years in MLB. So, yes many of these prospects are not going to make a major impact at the MLB level. I still love reading about them, and seeing the ranking and projections. Hope them the best and that they can contribute to the Twins at some point. Like Seth has stated, some of these players at lower end of rankings or honorable mention are just an adjustment or two away from breaking out. My top 3 from these 10 are: Nowlin- great K rate, Enlow- I look for him to regain his stuff this year, and Severino- watched some of his games last year, if he can stay healthy could really impress.
  16. Miami has Alcantara, Rogers, Luzardo, Cabrera, and Lopez, with Eury Perez and Max Meyer(post elbow surg) on the way up in the future. They also signed Cueto this offseason. Miami has plenty of starting pitching options, can afford to trade at least one good SP. They need hitters. To get a pitcher with years of control yet, may need to offer same in position player with some MLB experience. No one has mentioned Miranda, maybe a package of Miranda and Kepler and as Nashvilletwin suggested throw in one of former first round picks Sabato or Cavaco-maybe both.
  17. I am excited about Moran, agree he is not ready for high leverage opportunities but definitely should have a solid hold of a position in the Twins bullpen. Moran is probably never going to have closer type stuff but I look for him to develop into a solid 7th or 8th inning set up man.
  18. Rebuild to me means getting rid of experienced players and moving to young players. Twins only have 3 players with contracts past next year-Buxton, recently signed Vasquez, Dobnak and 2 more with team options after next year-Kepler and Polanco. Gray, Meada, and Gallo are in last year of contract. Twins have 2 entering last year of arbitration will be FAs after next year-Pagan and Mahle and 4 with 2 years of arbitration Theilbar, Farmer, Lopez, and Paddock. Agree, out of that bunch-Polanco, Kepler, Maeda, Gray, and Mahle have the most trade value, besides Buxton- hopefully Twins not trading him. Has the rebuild already begun?
  19. Hope Contreras signs minor league FA deal with Twins, good depth at AAA.
  20. Time will tell how good an investment Correa is for the Mets. If he performs well the next 3-4 years is that enough, 6-7 years of high level performance, don't like the odds of Correa being anything more than an average player the last 3-4 years of the contract. Mets probably can afford that, but Twins cannot.
  21. I really like the purpose of the Rule 5 draft, to give a player a chance that is buried in a team's minor league system to be on a MLB team. I feel Baddoo would not have even made the Twins MLB level 2 years ago, most likely would have spent the season in the minors. Good for him, he got an opportunity and had some success. Twins are not out much, have plenty of OFs, Baddoo not going to be an allstar.
  22. Twins FO seems to like to build depth first. Just signed Camargo to be AAA catcher, so maybe MLB catcher move coming soon.
  23. Not sure what Twins did differently in 2019, Rocco's first year, but there were only a few injuries to SP and only short IL stints. SP of Berrios, Odorizzi, Pineda, Gibson, and Perez had few injuries, Pineada had fewest starts at 26 and IP at 146. Berries had 32 starts and 200 IP, other 3 had 29-30 starts and 159-165 IP.
  24. There will be players released, DFA'd, traded. Only one catcher on 40 man, usually carry 3, need a SS, additional pitching. 40 man roster not finalized yet. But agree, maybe Rule 5 addition may not improve 26 man since need to carry Rule 5 addition on MLB roster and Twins may pass on Rule 5 addition. Who are 6 pitchers doubtful for 2023, I only count Canterino and Paddock. Others have injury concerns but are likely to pitch in 2023; Mahle, Maeda, Winder, Alcala.
