  1. I think that by far the most volatile segment of our team is the bullpen. And by using the word volatile, I mean that it could go either way. We have several relievers that show good stuff, including Pagan. And I'm ok with giving him a shot early. If things go south you have to DFA him. But with the possibility of his results being average to very good, you take a chance. Agree on the short leash. But, you could say the same thing about most of the pen. Talent-wise this could end up being one of the best pens in the league. But we have to be able to adjust according to results. I hope Pagan makes us all eat crow by seasons end. But if he's bad, let him try his luck with another team.
  2. Not quite sure why you would say that. If Dobnak could miraculously come back and pitch well enough to beat out Ober / Varland / SWR / Winder / Canterino / Festa / Henriquez, and Paddack, why shouldn't he get that shot. Not to cut down any of these guys, but have any of them other than Ober done in the bigs what Dobnak has done or shown promise of? Personally, I will not count him out until he has counted himself out. And I love rooting for a longshot, which he may be, but it is not out of the realm of possibility. And what a great story his comeback would make.
  3. I "HATE" the term "positive regression". Sounds like "un-peeing"!!!
  4. Actually, I think there may still be a trade before the regular season starts. I think it will be Kepler or Larnach.(praying it's not Larnach). Howeverrrr, I still don't think that Kepler is a bad hitter. I think he is an average hitter who was bothered by the toe injury last year. Ok, he has had two sub-par years, but I can very easily see him getting his avg. up to .250 with 25 homers. And with his superior defense, I could like that alot. I may be in the minority here, but I just don't think Kepler is as bad an offensive player as he is being credited lately. I look for a bounce back from Kep, yet I think he would be the most likely trade chip to unclog our outfield redundancy. I still think Larnach will be a star and will take over RF when he starts to shine. In any case, however things turn out, I am excited for baseball and I'll see you at the ballpark.
  5. I agree with "DMAN" on this. We replaced Gio with Farmer. And I also believe that one or more of our LH corner outfielders will be traded by opening day, probably Kepler, but possibly Larnach or Walner (hopefully not Larnach, I have high expectations for him) or a combination in a package deal. I'd love to see a more traditional good hitting 1B with power. But I am really rooting for AK to be that guy. Speculation is fun, but getting anxious for ST. See you at the ballpark!
  6. This is the type of player I would like to see transformed to catcher albeit with a little better arm. We draft alot of shortstops with great athleticism which I think could be taught the tools of ignorance. Smart and athletic could be a ticket to mlb. But I rarely hear of this kind of transferrance. So, maybe I'm just crazy.
  7. I don't think the Twins will do anything with free agents until spring training. I don't think they want to drop anyone from the 40 man, so until they gain 3 spots via IL, they won't sign anyone unless it is a trade of someone already on our 40 man roster. Once they gain those 3 spots, I believe they will be going after another relief arm. Howeverrrrr, a trade of a LH batting corner outfielder could still be a possibility.
  8. Wow, I can't believe all the controversy over one player! Personally, I will be rooting for Gallo the hit .230, walk 33% of the time, hit 35 to 40 HR and have an OPS of 900+. Then watch all the Gallo Jerseys fly off the shelves. By the way, why can't I find one yet? LOL, I think we should chill out a little bit, let the FO do their job, and hope for the best. See you at the ballpark. (with my Gallo jersey on)
  9. It seems to me that the reason the Twins don't sign top FA pitchers is because the market has become so ridiculous for them. The risk is extremely high for long term top end pitchers vs. the dollars they are receiving. I agree with the way the FO is making these decisions. Without researching this deeply, it seems to me that the long term deals for high cost FA pitchers are more often bad deals for the teams. Trading for top prospect pitchers like Ryan and SWR makes more sense to me. I also like the trade for P. Lopez. Hoping he turns out to be a good value and extended for something like 3-5 years for reasonable money. Similar to the Paddock deal.
  10. Mauer the ML player is worthy. And if class counts for anything, he would have been inducted the day he hung up his cleats.
  11. So, now with another outfielder they must be going to trade Kepler or another outfileder. Can't help but feel there is still more to come. See you at the ballpark.
  12. Thanks for the great article Matt. I love reading about my old favorites from the sixties and seventies. We didn't have as much opportunity to watch the Twins on tv in those days, so when they were on, they took precident over everything. Still remember how Killebrew was disrespected for too many strikeouts yet he was then and always will be my favorite player. Sure wish we could go back and watch some of those old games again. Keep the nostalgia coming, it was a pleasure.
  13. Concerning the extensions to Kepler and Sano - for what the contracts were, I believe they were all successfull. We may have been hoping for more out of Sano, but he did hit alot of homers for us, and some of those moonshots were worth a few dollars in the seats as entertainment. Kepler is still on the team and provides excellent defense and is also providing some value as a trade chip. (Yet to be determined). But all three were team friendly contracts. And in my humble opinion, very good extensions. Thanks, and see you at the ballpark.
  14. If the Twins didn't plan on having Correa play ss for most likely all of his 6 years, they probably wouldn't have given him a $200m contract.
  15. Not arguing any of your points, but that may be what makes him the best trade chip. Also, my last sentence stated "My humble opinion", and I'll stand by that, thank you.
  16. I'll have to admit that it took me some time to warm up to Arraez. Initially, I didn't like his antics at the plate. It looked silly to me and more as an attention getter. But the more I watched, the more I got used to it and saw that, ok, this is just Luis being Luis. I started to love his great AB's where he showed a great understanding of how to work the pitcher, how to foul off tough to hit pitches, how to put the ball in play, loved the low SO's. So, to sum it up, I have become a "Big Fan". Howeverrrrr. I can certainly see how it may or may not last considering his knees and a lack of a true defensive position. And with his trade value being at a probable high, "if" they get a "good" return I would trade him in a second. I think he is our best tradeable option. I would trade him before Lewis, Lee, Larnach, Kirilloff and probably a few others. My humble opinon.
  17. If this is true, then why bother having a manager? You hire a manager that you have confidence in to be with the players on a daily basis. That is not the FO's job. The manager gets a feel for his players, and a good solid baseball instinct for his group of players. It is his job to get the most out of his players and make them competitive on a daily basis. The FO's job is to give him the best available players(that they can afford). If Rocco is just a puppet for the FO, then the whole system is screwed up. Whether he manages by analytics or by baseball knowlege and feel is his choice and he should be held accountable. Once the players are on the team and on the field, the FO needs to keep their noses out of it. Let the manager live or die by his own decisions. If any real baseball man can live by the managerial puppet scenario, then he is not a manager. A real baseball man would not take that job. Now, I don't personally "know" that Rocco is a puppet, but if he is, I don't see how his players would have any respect for that. As for Francona, I happen to believe he may be the best manager in baseball at this time. Does anyone think that he would play puppet for any FO?
  18. How about E. Cabrerra for Kepler Garlick and Martin?
  19. I enjoyed the read also, but it almost reads like a grand 6-year plan to sign CC. I actually favor the "He fell into our laps - twice", scenario. Certainly not complaining, and I give kudos to the FO for getting the deal done. I know Falvey likes to use the term creative, and I believe he is. I'm not sure how much his restrictions affect his performance, but I am beginning to like the results. I absolutely loved the Donaldson signing at the time, and even loved it more when they traded him away. Some of the dumpster diving gets old, but usually at a low cost. And when one of those dumpster plucks pans out in a big way, we are going to love it. So I guess I'm just gonna let the FO do their job, and I"ll just sit back and laud their decisions, or complain about them. What a great fan I am, eh?
  20. I agree. And we certainly have a need for some backup catching in the minors. Hopefully only one of Vasquez and Jeffers will be on the IL at one time.
  21. I like this deal as a low risk/high reward move, and now I would like the Twins to work out an extension for either Gray or Mahle, or both. Tack on 2-3 years on their contracts and it would look to me that the Twins are looking to win over the long haul.
  22. +++Love your analysis. I think the Twins should be going after Cabreara or Luzardo. But I would hate to give up on any of Lewis, Larnach, Kepler, and definately not Lee or Prilipp. Again, great write-up. Edit: meanto put Kirriloff in there. Not Kepler.
  23. I would like to add Chaffin and McCutchen or Mancini via free agency. For that to happen we have to find two spots on the 40 man. Currently I can only see DFAing Moran or McGill. Only other way would be to trade some off of our 40 man for less 40 man candidates coming back. I now have a renewed confidence (after getting CC back) in our front office for doing some creative maneuvering. Also, after being dead set against signing Bauer, I am becoming al little softer on that idea. Still not real keen on it though. Softening up on Wacha also, providing depth if a trade is not made for a more top of the line SP. Howevvveerrr, If we went into the season with the roster as currently constructed, I'd be fine with that. I just don't think Falvine is done tinkering and I strongly believe there will be some kind of trade coming. My personal preference though, is to not trade Kirilloff, Larnach, Lewis, Prielipp and definately not Brooks Lee.
  24. I really hate the long term contracts. I think anything over 6 years is to long except in cases like Buxton where you have lower guarenteed money and great bonuses for great performance. That being said, I think that unfortunately this is the world we currently live in. And "that being said", I would like to see the Twins sign Correa but only if it doesn't prevent the Twins from giving extensions to some of our deserving young players in 4 or 5 years. If we don't get Correa, then go with what we have. I like alot of our young prospects and hope to see them do well.
