Minnesota Twins 2021 Draft Retrospective
Heiny replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Obviously still too early to tell if any on this list will provide major league value, "BUT" At this point, it looks very promising. Lets just hope for good health, good teaching and continued development. Seems like an impressive draft at this point.- 7 replies

2022 MLB Draft Consensus Big Board, Part 2 (25-1 Overall)
Heiny replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Dreaming of Brooks Lee falling to Twins. Maybe just short of praying? Yeah, I don't see it happening either. High on Neto, Collier, Prada, and Cross. If for some reason Green would fall to us I would be upset if he weren't snatched up, unless of course we had to choose between Green and Lee. I would have to go with Lee. In any case, I think we will get one of the above players and would have a hard time being upset about any of them. Great article. Thanks. -
2022 MLB Draft Consensus Big Board, Part 1 (56-26 Overall)
Heiny replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Wow, great article. Am quite surprised at how the comments are reinforcing my thoughts to this point. I would like to have the Twins take one of the top all around athletes in the first round, but focus on catcher in the second. I am also on the Rushing and Logan bandwagon. (taking into account how little I know). I have been reading a lot about the draft prospects and love the idea of the consensus. Nice work and I will be looking forward to the top 26. Thanks. -
Mill1634's Trade Deadline Blueprint: Going for It
Heiny commented on Mill1634's blog entry in Milldaddy35's Blog Area
I like it. I think you put a lot of time and research into your trade scenarios and I believe it makes the team much better. Hate to see some guys go, like Speers and Martin, but you have to give up something good to get something good. Also, you did not trade away Kirilloff or Larnach. These two, to me, are untouchable unless the return was stupidly "CAN'T REFUSE" deals. But that's not gonna happen. Thanks for the article. Great read. -
Would Bringing Back Kyle Gibson Makes Sense?
Heiny replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like Gibson. And I think that a piggyback game plan with Gibson and Archer each going 4 to 5 innings might work well. I don't like the idea of a starter going 5 innings and then having 4 different relievers finishing the game which it seems we do now. But I wouldn't want to give up too much if it was just for the remainder of this year. I wouldn't mind seeing Gibson with a two to three year extension and if he would be okay with working out of the pen especially in a piggyback situation. Personally I prefer the days of starters going 7 or 8 innings but I think those days are gone for the most part.- 28 replies

Pitching Coach Wes Johnson to Abruptly Leave Twins
Heiny replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My two cents: Job changes are usually a difficult decision. It is a personal choice with different parameters per individual. Wes is the only one that can make this decision. I for one, will not judge, but I thank him for what I think was a very good job while he was here and wish him the best in the future. -
Correa looks great in a Twins uniform. And I hope they figure out something to keep him for another 5-7 yrs. He says he likes it here and he seems sincere about it. Would the Twins like to be perennial contenders? This would be a great place to start. And IMHO he adds recruiting value for SP's. What pitcher wouldn't love to have Correa fielding the SS position behind them? Let's find a way. (another Twins uniform in the HOF?)

Ryan Jeffers is Secretly Turning a Corner
Heiny replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I enjoyed the article. And the xstats are fun, but the name of the game is production. Jeffers is not producing acceptable offensive stats. "Period". With neither catcher being able to throw out base runners even with what I believe are above average arms, we have another stat with below average production. Thus we have below average catchers IMHO. I'm also in favor of the electronic strike zone, and as a traditionalist, that pains me to say. But the umpiring, again IMHO has been terrible this year. Either get the electronic strike zone or get rid of the box on the tv screen. At least it wouldn't be so easy to see the horrible calls. All in all I hope Jeffers can bring his production up. -
Gary Sánchez is Different (And May be Underperforming)
Heiny replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Sanchez has been mildly but pleasantly surprising. Still needs to cut down the Ks and I still hate that Rocco uses both catchers in the lineup at the same time. Neither is hitting well enough to be DH in my humble opinion, but Sanchez is by far outplaying Jeffers. Surprised that more teams aren't stealing bases against the Twins. Neither seem to be able to throw out runners, although that may be alot on the pitchers. Overall I'm feeling much better about Sanchez than I was at the time of the trade. -
What's Going On With Jorge Polanco?
Heiny replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It's really hard to say about any player because offensive stats are significantly down across both leagues. I have to believe the ball is the biggest reason. Personally, I wish MLB would stop tinkering and let the players play. Let the players adjust to the game instead of adjusting the game. -

In Appreciation Of Dick Bremer
Heiny replied to Dave Overlund's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Halsey Hall, Herb Carneal, John Gordon and Dick Bremer should all be in the Hall Of Fame as broadcasters. I loved Dick and Bert together. I like Morneaus' knowledge of the game and he explains his points extremely well. (sometimes too well, way too many words) But Dick can work with anyone. Yeah, he is a homey and that is part of what I love. Keep Dick Bremer for as long as he has a desire to call Twins games. Then put him in the Hall. -
I was at first a little skeptical of this trade, because I didn't see it coming. Was just expecting the Padres to be looking for a Kirilloff/Larnach/Kepler/Arraez. But after thinking it over, I'm more ok with the deal. Consider, with a 162 game schedule, we will need approx. 1458 innings to be pitched. With 5 starters to pitch 150 innings each (and that is a stretch), that leaves 708 innings. If 8 relievers get 70 innings each, (and that is a stretch) that leaves 148 innnings. Not accounting for extra innings games, injuries, and poor performances, I think we are going to need several innings eaters. I also feel with the talent of our young guns, this pen may be mightier than the sword of Rogers. In any case, it seems that the FO is at least trying to make it a competitive season. I'm looking forward to the games and hoping Paddack is going prove this to be a great trade for present "and future". Edit: Last year we had 35 pitchers pitch 1419.1 innings. Berrios pitched the most innings with 121.2. That is why a complete new rotation seems like a possible good thing.

Celestino, Beckham Sent to Minor-League Camp
Heiny replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would disagree here. I would put Arraez as the defacto DH. -
I agree with the B+ grade as it stands right now. I'd still like to see them pull off a trade for a front of the rotation starter but if that doesn't happen, how bout maybe go back after Cueto for a little more depth. My grade would still be a B+, but it would be a higher B+.

Who Makes Up the Twins Bench?
Heiny replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My biggest complaint here is that we would DH Sanchez because of the amount of his paycheck. We already have a right handed strikeout master to play DH in Sano. Let Sanchez catch twice a week to give Jeffers a break and stash him away in a closet the rest of the week.- 55 replies

Will the Real Trevor Larnach Please Stand Up
Heiny replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am a huge believer in Larnach. I believe he will eventually replace Kepler. And if Kep continues to show he can't hit against the shift, then the sooner the better. Larnach needs as many at bats as he can get and will continually improve. I love Keplers' defense and I hope he turns things around but it looks like the youth movement is on a fast track.- 36 replies

How Should the Twins Arrange the Top of the Order?
Heiny replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I actually think I would put Correa, Polanco, then Buxton due to my belief that Buxton is our best overall hitter. He has shown he can hit for average, OBP, Power and speed. Then Kirilloff vs. RHer's, Sano vs. LHer's. But, I don't think it really matters cuz I think Rocco will have 50 different lineups in the first 50 games. And it may make sense to him, but I really dislike the way he manages lineups. And please, no more of Kepler leading off unless he can show that he can hit through the shift consistently.- 51 replies

Is it possible that a player has an MVP type season, and enjoys playing here so much, and also decides that 30.5 "Million Dollars" is enough to play another beautiful summer in Minnesota? I see that as being in the realm of possibility. Call me crazy.

Twins 2022 Position Analysis: First Base
Heiny replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree with not trading Kirilloff. For me, he is untouchable. For Sano, I would offer him a new contract extension right now. Lower base salary with big incentives for lower strikeouts, OBP, OPS+, and even BA. Base of about 5M with incentives maxing out at 20M. If he can't prove his worth to be in the 10M range, then he should be cut. This is a perfect player for an incentive laden contract. He could make himself into a huge asset but he needs to prove it. If he can prove himself worth keeping, I have no problem with him playing 1B and Kirilloff in LF. Also I look forward to Larnach in RF after Kepler is traded. -
I'm not usually a fan of rotating DH's. I really believe that players play better when they have a defined role, and that includes DH. But since we don't have Cruz, or anyone like him, I understand this situation. Yet I still think that Kirilloff should get the majority of starts at 1B, with Sano getting the majority of starts at DH. Sanchez can spell Sano if (or when) he goes into one of his deep freeze streaks. I think Arraez is our best trade bait for pitching and if not he would not get enough at bats at 2b or 3b. Those starters should play 5 days a week, leaving only 2 days a week for Arraez, which makes him more valuable as a trade chip. Will be interesting how this all plays out, but we do need at least one more quality starter and 40 man roster spots are tight. Someone has to go.
