I did not want to see this challenge system put in place initially. "BUT", I now believe that the umpires calls have been so much better this year than in previous years. Due, I'm guessing to them being checked and challenged. Last year was horrible in my opinion. So now I am very much liking the system. The umps are better, and when they are not the call gets changed to the correct call. What could be wrong with that. I believe that technology is so much more accurate than the human eye at live speed, that there is no reason to tinker with it. It doesn't matter what you change, there will always be complaining and whining. You want changes in baseball? You got'em. You now have a clock in a baseball game - stupid. You have the Manfred man in extra innings - UTTERLY RIDICULOUS. At least this challenge system improves the "correctness" of the human factor. Now if we could teach the players to not blow challenges at silly times. Like two outs in the first inning, nobody on base. Have they not dicussed the strategy? You get two incorrect calls. Don't risk them at times when they mean so little. Ok, rant over. Continue the whining.

It has been often stated that the Twins have too many left handed batters in the outfield, which Outman is one of. If you have to replace Outman with another LH bat to platoon against RH pitchers, give Jenkins, Roden, or Rodriquez a shot. If you don't care which side of the plate he bats at, you can add Gonzalez and Fedko as options. Whoever is most deserving of a chance.

Can the 2026 Twins Avoid Being a Disaster Defensively?
Heiny replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This problem is to be put on the front office in drafting poor defensive players, the development team for not bring them up to par, and the coaching staff. The big leagues should be manned by good defensive players. All teams will have a couple poor defensive players but collectively an average team will be able to compete. A team well below average defensively has a very poor chance to compete. -
4 Reasons for Optimism About the 2026 Minnesota Twins
Heiny replied to Adam Friedman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nice optimistic article, but I'm still pessimistic. Wallner, Larnach, Lewis, Lee, all highly touted 1st rounders. None have performed up to expectations. Continual signings of over the hill free agents and the pitching pipeline that seems to have a leak in it do not encourage hurraah. The future does look brighter, but only if our new batch of highly touted prospects develop to expectations. Jenkins, Rodriguez. Culpepper, Gonzalez, Prilippe, Abel, Tait along with the emergence of Keaschall will keep me watching. But hey, I kept watching during the late 70's and early 80's, so there's that.- 52 replies

I agree. The time is now. Ryan should bring top prospect talent. Jeffers should bring next tier talent. And if Buxton agrees to waive his trade clause, he should bring top prospect talent also, especially with his team friendly contract. It's pretty obvious that we are going nowhere in '26. Time to start over with our own prospects and an influx of top prospects. We could be a contender in '28. Either way, they will probably not be drawing much for crowds at the park. Let's be realistic and take advantage of our trade value, as these players most likely will be gone before we become contenders again anyway. There is no present, so let's work on the future.

I have some thoughts on the sense or maybe non-sense of how we got here: 1. ANY TIME you are paying someone to play for another team, there has been a big boner leading up to it. And 10M per year for the next 3 years? Somebody needed to pay for that blunder! 2. The draft is always a crap shoot. But leading up to the last several drafts I don't think anyone thought the picks we made were huge mistakes. Lewis and Lee were highly ranked prospects that haven't performed up to expectations as of yet, but it's too early to give up on them. Other first rounders have also been ranked pretty high and still have high hopes of success. So, I don't blame Falvey for the drafts. But developing the picks may be a problem from Falveys' regime. 3. The combination of Falvey and Baldelli had a sour smell to it all along IMHO. Finally getting rid of Rocco was a day that I rejoiced and now Falvey gives me hope for the future. Now if only the Polahds could get the team sold, well, that will be the turning point. The 2024 season was the biggest disappointment for me because it looked for the longest time that we were playoff bound even though the payroll had been cut. Then they stepped on a landmine and totally blew the stretch run. 4. I still have high hopes for the future because I believe in our prospects. Jenkins, ERod, Gonzales, Culpepper, Houston and a plethora of good looking young pitchers. I just don't think I'll be around long enough to see how good they can be. 5. The trade deadline sell off is still a head scratcher for me. We went from having a very strong bullpen to selling off all of our best relievers, several with multi year control left. Unless you are looking to do a total rebuild, this just doesn't make any sense to me. 6. I think the Twins are trying to keep the payroll as low as possible while still trying to show a bad attempt to compete in the bad, but getting better AL central, until after the new CBA. With possibly a very different set of rules, they are holding back on guarenteeing any larger contracts until they have an idea of what they are dealing with. Along those lines, I'm betting that Lopez's big contract will be traded by the deadline. All things considered, I am happy to see both Falvey and Rocco gone.

Twins Should Bring Burnsville's Sam Carlson Home for Christmas
Heiny replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Enjoyed the article. Bring him home! Nothing to lose on a minor league contract. Is at an age where the pitcher in him could certainly develop under the right tutelage and in the right atmosphere. Love a good homer feel good story. Bring him home. -
Should the Twins Deal from Their Rotation Depth?
Heiny replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What's the old saying? You can't have too much pitching! And there is no projectable future HOF'ers on this squad. There are always injuries. There are always down years. I would not trade any of them as it is possible that they may all get some needed time in the rotation or some quality innings out of the pen, especially the youngsters. We've built some depth at a position and I don't see them bringing back anything worth while. Continue development. At least until the trade deadline, then re-evaluate. -
How the Twins Can Still Save the Carlos Correa Trade
Heiny replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So, there seems to be a problem with the Twins drafting and developing 1st basemen. I really have no problem with them continuously drafting the best athletes with good bats, which is usually shortstops, but we cannot play 7 shortstops at a time. So, how about moving some of these guys to 1b while still in the lower minors? Good prospects could be 6' 6" Quentin Young, 6' 6" Brandon Winokur, 6' 1" Billy Amick. Develop them in the minors. They are already good athletes with power potential, with several other young guys blocking their path to the show. If I'm one of those guys, I'd be begging for the oppurtunity. Am I crazy? Stupid? It just seems to make sense to me. P.S. And if it really is K. Culpepper as the future at SS, then maybe Marek Houston at 6' 3" could be added to the list.- 37 replies

Agreed, especially with the chasing the low and away pitches. Batting coach needs to help him work on recognizing the pitches that he gets fooled by. When he swings at the pitches in the zone he looks like a star.

This sucks. Although I agree that if he wants to go, he should be allowed. I would hate to see it but this organization doesn't deserve his loyalty. To Buck: I hope you have success, whether it's with the Twins or elsewhere. To the Pohlads: I'm getting pretty effing disgusted with your BS. I'm 67 years old and a Twins fan since I can remember, but you sure make it hard.

Cody - I enjoy your writing, but when I saw the articles' headline, I thought, "Man, are we ever getting desparate for stories." But I read the article anyway, and thought again: well written and entertaining. But what really caught my attention was the thought of how we signed France last year. Only gets paid if he makes the team out of spring training. Minimal cost longshot. But then what happened? He made the team. We got trade value for him at the deadline. He ended up winning a gold glove. This would be another minimal cost longshot and even a little humorous. Not going to try to figure the odds of it happening, but remember, this is the desperate Mn. Twins with Falvey at the helm. Take a look at all the minimum wage and minor league signings we've done during the previous several seasons. Mostly relief pitchers with probably worse odds of contributing to the team than Sano. He at least had high prospect status for a reason. Keep writing Cody. Even crazy ideas can be fun. And sometimes longshots pay off. And when they do, they pay off big. LOL.

May should be a great addition and would fit the Twins historical pattern. Sign or trade for pitchers that will most likely sit on Il for huge majority of the season. AKA - Desclafani, Stewart, Paddock, Topa, Mahle, Dyson et.al. Yeah, we're due for another one those guys.

As far as bringing Wallner or Larnach to the infield for 1B, I would think the Twins would have already made that consideration and concluded that they are not even real good outfield defenders and probably not cabable of handling throws in the dirt or have good first move ability on hot ground balls to infiielders. That's a totally different talent and instinct ability. I could be wrong but if they were capable it would have already been tried. Just my humble opinion. And as someone who has never been all that high on Arraez, I would very much welcome him back and believe he may be our best option by far. Problem is, I think he will be out of our price range. We could certainly use his OBP and low strikeout percentage.

A total rebuild is the only thing that makes sense to me. We are not going to the playoffs in '26'. We are not going to the playoffs in '27', if there is a '27'. Why would we not want to trade these players, that could bring back some very good young talent that could start a new playoff run in '28' or '29'? We already have some good young talent to build around. Let's bolster it with more young talent that will be ML ready in a couple of years. Arms, 1B and C being the focus. We have Jenkins, Rodriquez, Gonzalez and others for the outfield. We have Culpepper, Keaschall, Winokur, Lee, Lewis and others for the infield. If not rebuilding now, then when. It's now that we have the trade chips to improve for the future. Do it.

I'm curious. Can you give me a list of players who were offered more money to play for the Twins but went elsewhere? For any reason? I'm not arguing, but I'd really like to know which players do that.
