  1. I can't say I hate the idea, but if it were up to me, i would pass. Whatever resources we have to spend should be put towards top end starting pitching. A @2 or @3 guy. We have right handed bats in the minors that I would like to give a chance. Austin, Lee, Severino. Trade Gordon for whatever you can get and open up a spot for some higher ceiling youth. I also haven't given up on Larnach and Miranda for OF/IN bench spots. If we ever get a tv contract maybe they would open the checkbook for a Montgomery.
  2. So tell us how you really feel. Do you think this was a good trade or not. Now, don't hold back. And what do you think about the 2 hole? Just playing with you man. I've read all of the 229 comments in the initial post of the trade and I think I figured out where you stand.
  3. I would prefer to give Lee the extension and trade Julien for pitching, "IF" Lee were ready now. But, that seems a little risky at this point. Maybe an extension next year would be a better option. But I do believe we still have some good trade pieces for pitching right now. Namely Kirilloff, Miranda, Larnach, Raya, Gonzalez, Farmer, Gordon, Schobel, Kepler, Not all of course, but we have alot of real talent. I would not however trade Lewis, Lee, Jenkins, or Rodriquez unless the return was for top end young SP with multiple years of control. And even then I probably wouldn't like it. Just my take.
  4. 3. Byron Buxton is healthy and ready, that should excite fans. Buxton is the most divisive Twins player since Joe Mauer(not including Miguel Sano). Fans either love him or hate him, there's no in between. He's either an All Star caliber player that makes tough plays look easy, or he's an often injured soft bum whose collecting a paycheck. Wherever you lie on that scope, know this: Byron is ready. He hasn't been this ready for a while. I asked him on Saturday while going through his autograph line when we might see him back in the field and how he's feeling, and he said "I feel great, hopefully in the field on Opening day". That is music to this fans ears. Buxton makes the lineup better. You can't teach his speed and given the Twins haven't (and likely wont) re sign Michael A Taylor, who was his backup last year, a healthy Buxton is required for a deep playoff run. I don't buy the all or nothing love/hate Buxton line. I like Buxton. And I hope he does well. I don't think I've ever hated a Twins player, and that includes Lance Lynn and Tommy Herr. That might tell you that hate is way to strong a word for me. But it's also hard to love a player who has had such a hard time staying on the field for the majority of a season. Love/hate? I don't think so. But still a good article.
  5. I I would very much like to see them re-sign MAT and trade Gordon for prospects.
  6. What a great article Mr. Hanel!! It is a rare piece of written word that tugs at my heartstrings like this article. Obviously I am a huge Mauer fan and proudly so.
  7. Most assuredly. And someone whom I have a ton of respect for.
  8. Great article Seth. I'm curious to know who from Perham he was asking about. (It wasn't me, was it?) Lol. But seriously, he sounds like a super classy guy. And he sounds like he is a great judge of character. Which is why he would he would have liked you and your writing. Keep up the good work young man. Oh, and by the way, a huge congrats to Mr. Ryan and Mr. Stelmaszek.
  9. I hope to see Bucky out there on a consistant basis. He's fast enouph with good instincts to be above average without beating his body up by running into walls and making diving catches at 20 mph. Hopefully he has learned as much. I also hope that he doesn't think he has to make up for all the lost time in one year. Just try to make good solid contact and good things will happen. He doesn't need to try to hit 40 homers, but 25 will come easy to him with just a solid approach. He is still a premier athlete when he is on the field.
  10. I agree, and with these two teams the entertainment value of a near 500 foot bomb occasionally would be a fun distraction.
  11. LOL, I just had to try. But apparently even AI is politically correct.
  12. Well, there is a very good reason they play the games. Predictions are just that. Remember, even Custer got beat by the Guardians.
  13. Great article honoring a great man. And high school coach gets a little credit for helping mold a young man into an outstanding human being. I am thrilled for Joe and can only hope that more young people take notice and follow in his footsteps. But what huge shoes to fill.
  14. Joe Mauer was TRULY a class act. Yes, just like Harmon. I have been a Twins fan since I was 5 years old in "65". I have seen some amazing baseball by my Twins as well as others. But it is hard to imagine anyone as talented AND classy as Joe. As a huge baseball fan, I want to thank you Joe for the wonderful years of outstanding effort and true love for the game. You are a REAL HOF'ER. I salute you and would love to shake your hand some day.
  15. Generally, I agree. But sometimes it may be the best that we can do. A trade that helps usually hurts also. But if we can trade a piece like Polanco I don't feel the pain so badly due to the plethora of capable 2b candidates. I think this one helps more than it hurts, and at least it's not in our division.
  16. H E DOUBLE TOOTHPICK NO!!!!!
  17. I love the pick but comparing him to Gooden may be a little pre-mature. I also believe that the Twins will move him along slowly. Rookie ball for '24 only. Even if he develops fairly quickly, I doubt we would see him in the bigs before '27 and he'd still only be 22 years old then. Bring him along slow and steady and play it by ear.
  18. I think if things don't start heating up we are going to start seeing a bunch of 1 year deals at pretty decent dollars. I don't see the Twins going this path though. I do believe there is a good chance that the Twins will end up trading for Manoah. And as a long term goal I think we need to start drafting early and heavy on SP. We need to be looking at bringing a good starting pitcher up from our minor league system every year. We have a good offensive crew developing already. Concentrate on drafting and developing starting pitchers.
  19. Where do you get your #s? I'm not saying they're wrong, but that doesn't mean I believe them either. This sounds like a lot of propaganda. But I do know that "someone does know the #s" and what it would take to make a reasonable and profitable package. And I believe that the dollars may sound excessive to some fans. I am retired and on a fixed income, but I also know that I have many times in the past overpaid for a product that I wanted and passed on a product that I wanted due to excessive price. I'm also quite sure that there could be an acceptable margin of profit for an acceptable package price. And it shouldn't be hard at all to find.
  20. I also think that getting more people to watch baseball on tv would increase interest in those people to head out to the games more often.
  21. I don't know and I don't care who broadcasts the games. What I do care about is where they broadcast to and how much it is going to cost the average fan. As I see it, MLB "should" be in total control. It is their product. But, between greed and incompetancy, I'm guessing that they will not figure it out to the majority of fans liking! For heavens sake please keep Manfred out of the negotiations. Here's an idea. Make all games, MLB and MiLB available via some streaming entity, MLBtv? No blackouts anywhere. Charge a monthly or annual subscription fee that the average fan can afford. Big baseball fans like myself will subscribe. Make an option for those who want to subscribe to teams A la Carte. You will have all the baseball fans you can handle. I will still go to the games live, because that's just a totally different experience. At least for me considering I have to drive 3-1/2 hour to the cities. But remember, if you get greedy you will lose customers. Divvy up the income any way you want to between the teams, but make baseball available. Please, please tell me why this is so difficult to figure out. You have a product that people want to buy!!! Sell it to them!!! Make billions of dollars!!! I don't see why that can't work out.
  22. Yeah, but the problem with Luzardo or Garrett is they have Jenkins like value per BTV where Alcantara is at a negative value. That changes things drastically.
