Jose Miranda Could be a Sleeping Giant for the Twins
Heiny replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Don't worry, I'm too poor to be able to afford real chrystal. Mine is made of some recycled plastic. But thanks for your concern.- 58 replies

Jose Miranda Could be a Sleeping Giant for the Twins
Heiny replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
With the roster contruction as it is, it seems to me that some folks have to go. As I see it here is our current 26 man roster on opening day. Kirilloff, Julian, Correa, Lewis, Jeffers in the infield with Vasquez, Polanco, and Farmer on the bench. That's 8. Kepler, Buxton, Wallner in the outfield with Castro, Gordon and either Martin or Larnach on the bench. That's 6 for a total of 14. With 12 pitchers, that leaves no room for Miranda until injuries occur or we make a trade. My chrystal ball says there will be a trade of either Polanco, Farmer, or Gordon and Larnach plus a mid to high level prospect for a mid-level SP. Just hope they don't have to trade Lee, Lewis Jenkins or Rodriguez to get a trade done. Kinda hoping to stand pat while looking forward to 2025 and after. Confused with not really knowing what I want.- 58 replies

Edouard Julien v. Brooks Lee: Whom Should the Twins Trade?
Heiny replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't care so much that they are portable, but the fact that they are wenches kind of excites me. -
How bout we take a chance on sending Polanco for Desclafini along with Jonatan Clase? I might take that chance. I don't see any other possible deal here. Not real high on Desclafini and as someone else commented earlier, he has the same scare features as Mahle and Paddock. The only saving grace would be Clase, a switch hitting speedy OF prospect with building power upside. Helps Seattle with their infield and Minnesota with an outfielder that can hit from the right side of the plate.(both sides actually)

The Twins Have Been Great at Replacing Stars They Trade
Heiny replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I get a real kick out of Twins fans. We love the idea of the cheap Pohlads actually spending some money on upper tier ballplayers like Correa, because we know they would never. Until they do, LOL, then it's a horribll decision, because that player ain't worth all that money we're paying them. We had this same situation but even more lambasted by the fans with the Mauer contract. If the Twins would have "not" signed Mauer, half the fans would have threatened to never watch a Twins game again. But after signing him to a relatively team friendly deal, (yes, Mauer signed for less to stay with the Twins), Twins fans complain for years about his albatross of a contract. Where did that "Minnesota nice idea" come from? I'm starting to see nothing but Minnesota Whiney. Hey how bout them cheap Pohlads spend another 100M a year. Maybe we could have a season like the Padres. Can't wait to see the comments after that season.- 67 replies

Just wondering, do the Twins pay this "Stu guy" to write all this stupid stuff? I mean, to maybe deflect from the low rent district of front office dealings? Or maybe to deflect from the lack of dealings of meaningful consequence. Humor is often used to deflect from a more serious subject that is being ignored. But, I usually like my humor to be funny. Take my wife!!!!!!!

5 Positive Signs from Byron Buxton's 2023 Season

I am optimistic, but cautious, very very cautious. Would love to see Buck have an MVP season. Now that would taste good going down. -
Running Down the Hall (of Fame Ballot): 2024 Edition
Heiny replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My personal thoughts: Sheffield-500 homers automatically puts him in the Hall. Pete Rose-one of the best to ever play the game, suffered enough, put him in before he dies. He deserves it. Joe Mauer-what he did as a catcher, there is no question in my mind he deserves to be in the Hall, first ballot. This is the "Baseball Hall Of Fame", not the "Goody two shoes Hall Of Fame". Give me the rest of the deserved HOF'ers for what they did on the field also. Bonds, Clemens, McGwire, et-al. I dislike the idea that BBWAA get to judge whose behavior outside of baseball qualifies them for the Hall. Just because they have been a writer for 10 years? I don't think that is enough of a qualification. Do we check their DWI records before they get a vote? Do we check their spelling and punctuation before they get a vote? I have been an avid fan of all levels of baseball for 60+ years. I think that is more of a qualification that ten years as a writer. So, in conclusion, my respect has been very diminished for the Hall of Fame. Or at least the voting process.- 22 replies

The Dodgers should be kicked out of baseball

Edit: My median income amount is apparently wrong by about half, but I stand by my opinion as a whole. -
The Dodgers should be kicked out of baseball
Heiny replied to Battle ur tail off's topic in Other Baseball
I love how this world has become immune to insanity. Yes, good athletes generate huge money because the average Joe is willing to dole out ridiculous portions of his income to be entertained. You believe that a 1M dollar minimum salary is long overdue? To play baseball? I laugh at this because in my opinion, nobody is "due" that kind of money to play a game. What is the median income in the US? Around $32,000. So a two income family lives an average life on $64.000 per year. And minimum salary in MLB is more than 10 times that without having proven yet that you can even stay in the big leagues. $700,000 plus? Oh, we can argue all day about the value of the product and what is reasonable, but in "My Mind" at least, it is totally ridiculous. My wife and I have retired, very comfortably I might add, on "a total of less" than that million dollar annual minimum you suggest. So, there is my rant and I realize it is no longer even in the realm of reality, but neither is the current state of this ridiculous form of entertainment. -
This has been a great thread and I find myself becoming more excited about the coming season whether we make a trade or not. There are a lot of opinions here that I agree with and many that I disagree with but in any case I love hearing the opinions. Also, some of you guys(gals) are downright funny. The Star Trek bit was hilarious. Now for my opinion, I would not trade Lewis, Lee, Jenkins, or Rodriguez, or any of our top pitching prospects for any one year rental. I like our team and our prospects. I want to see Martin and Severino in ST. But if we have to trade for SP it needs to be for multiple years and even then I don't trade Lewis, Lee, Jenkins, or ERod. Just NO. But I'd trade Rocco!

I would like to see MLBtv take over the whole damn shooting match. Give me the oppurtunity to subscribe to watch any MLB game at any time, plus any minor league game that is broadcast at any time. I would be willing to pay a reasonable monthly subscription fee for that oppurtunity. Then for a smaller monthly subscription they could offer local MLB and an add-on of their minor league affiliates games. No one should be blacked out of the team they choose to watch. Figure out the dollars that it would take for this to work and I think this would work best for everyone. As long as they don't get too greedy and price themselves right out of most fans homes.

They need hitting and can afford some pitching. We need pitching and can afford some hitting. My proposal is Bryce Miller and Emerson Hancock for Matt Walner and Jose Miranda. This sounds fair and helps both teams. Both teams are getting multiple years from all players and youth at very modest salaries. Wallner would be the most painfull for me to give up, but then we fill in with Larnach/or a FA corner OF'er. Sound reasonable? If they would prefer Polanco vs. Miranda, that could work but I would like them to throw in a lower minor prospect.

When will it end you ask? I still remember how I felt when Kirby was the first 3M per year player. I loved Kirby, but it blew my mind! 3 MILLION DOLLARS/YEAR????? To play baseball? LOL, those numbers have increased so exponentially, that I can no longer even comprehend the dollars, just try to use the numbers comparatively. Personally, I would think 3mil per year should still be enough to be the highest paid player in MLB! I worked my entire career and retired at 61 years old and in my whole life I never made 3mil. I'm not complaining. I've lived pretty well, but if I can find one of those 700 million dollar contracts to do anything, I think I'm just gonna pass. But, even so, I doubt that it will ever end.

The Twins Daily Table Setter: December 4, 2023

I think you could get Gilbert for Kepler, Julian and E-Rod. But would I make that trade? I would have to think pretty hard on it.- 23 replies

My problem with this take is that Lee has had just "ONE FULL SEASON OF PRO BALL". Who are we kidding? This kid certainly deserves a little more time to prove or disprove who and what he is and can become. My personal confidence in Lee is extremely high. I say no to trading him or Jenkins or Lewis. If that is the only way to get pitching, then I say we do nothing. But, that is not the only way. So figure out something else.

How bout Ray, and Woo for Polo, Vasquez, and Gordon?
-
Unless the return is mind blowing with a top of the rotation SP with multiple years of control, I would not trade Lewis, Lee, Jenkins, or Rodriquez. Anyone else can be packaged. But the strength in our youth is our future. There are pitchers out there that can help the team like Giolito, Woodruff, Montgomery, Rodriguez and others. And we have players that we can trade for prospects to free up some cash. That is up to the FO to figure out. I don't expect them to stand pat but it wouldn't surprise me either. I wonder how many of the better free agents that we will "be in on", but will get away. That seems to be a common occurrance. LOL. Anyway, I did like the write up and the downloaded trade suggestions. The suspense of the offseason though is one of the toughest parts of being a Twins fan.

So, are you saying that Kaat and Oliva should not be in the hall, or that there are other players not in that should be? Either way that's on the BBWAA.

Just my very humble opinion, but I have lost all respect for the BBWAA. Morneau didn't even get a second year ballot? So, although I respect the HOF, I don't think it's as glorious as it should be. And yes, I do think the flyover America teams are ignored to a degree vs. east coast and west coast teams. Jim Kaat, Bert Blyleven, Tony Oliva? What took so long?

I would definitely tender all of them, cuz the dollars are right for each of them. But then there would have to be some trades of at least a couple players. I think that Gordon for his money should draw some good interest. I think Polanco and Larnach(hate giving up on Larnach) would also draw interest. Throw in some prospects for SP. So many ways this could go, but this is the speculation season.
