  1. TY John! Now lets get down to brass tacks! How does Miranda's "new" body look! :)
  2. Ober will be in the starting 5-man rotation. I like Megill over Pagan....but it looks like both will make the team.
  3. Go easy on Twinsfan02! He admitted he didn't understand! :)
  4. "I want the electronic strike zone - true strikes, no framed strikes, but that does not seem to be considered." ********************************************* Absolutely agree with Mikelink! If I was an umpire and the catcher in front of me was purposely trying to "fool" me by "framing" the pitch, I would purposely try to screw that catcher over! Of course I would get kicked out of umpiring.....but "QUIT trying to fool me".......would be my attitude!!
  5. I am really looking forward to seeing Moran....I think he will end up towards the top of this list if he stays healthy. Same with Alcala....but I am more concerned about him making it thru Spring training healthy.
  6. I love this! I am high on Julien but lets cool the jets a bit. He has less than 800 minor league at bats and has never played AAA yet. Also, if healthy all Spring, Ober will be one of the 5 starters in the rotation.
  7. If Ober is healthy throughout Spring training, he will be in the 5-man rotation. Likewise with Moran.
  8. "As a bonus bit of fun, can you imagine this zany outfield alignment suggested by Mike Petriello on Twitter featuring Buxton and Taylor roaming the outfield with their elite range and former third baseman Joey Gallo in short right against an extreme-pull lefty?" *************************** I could warm up to this! Now, without the "shift" in MLB, we could do this when guys like Kepler come to the plate! Oh wait....... :)
  9. I feel like Lopez can and will bounce back. Not as confident with Pagan (because we can look at the track record.) Wes Johnson back to "turn him around!" LOL!
  10. It sure would be nice if he could be "solid" at a position other than 1st base (or DH.) The Twins (and most teams) have many players who can fill these two positions adequately. Combining his bat with a different 'skill' position..... is where championship teams are made!
  11. "It's common knowledge that baseball players are underpaid at the start of their MLB careers, at least the successful players. Then, when they hit free agency they can finally cash in on what they have accomplished. There are advantages and disadvantages to the system for the players. There's no guarantee to the club that the player will perform as well or better than previous performance. " *************************************** The above would be correct if you abandon common sense and reason! LOL! NO Team...let me repeat....NO team..... is signing a guy in free agency based on what they did in the past(first few years of the MLB career.) They are signing them to a big contract based on what they are calculating they will do in the future (during their new contract.) That is what the Twins did with Joe Mauer. There is nothing wrong with admitting this. He never had the same type of season. PERFECT timing for Joe Mauer!!!! Yep...concussions were a big reason for this.....but there is nothing wrong with saying it. Injuries cost him BIG TIME!! Injuries made him LESS valuable. That is just an honest statement.....
  12. "Mauer got paid for what he had accomplished, and in a sport that stifles earnings for years before free agency, that shouldn’t be a concept difficult to grasp." *************************************************************************** HUH? No...Mauer got paid because it was anticipated he would have similar seasons to "one of the most productive seasons a catcher has ever had." The fact that he never did.....was a bummer! Of course, he still had rock solid seasons......just not what we were all hoping. Nothing wrong with saying this!
  13. I still struggle with valuing Gordon like many others on TD do. If he could be used around the infield, his hitting production would be very valuable. If he is now strictly an outfielder (like some think,) then his bat still doesn't really translate to the outfield.
  14. I hadn't heard much about this type of injury so this is definitely encouraging! Kirilloff won't have the longevity of Gibson but he certainly can have the same or better production(I think it will be better.) Gibson had the HR that everyone remembers but his production was marginally better than Eddie Rosario (but over a much longer period of time....which IS also important!)
  15. 1st base is the easiest position to fill (other than DH.) You can pick up a guy like CJ Cron and his defense would probably be better and his offense would be marginally less than Arraez. If the Twins felt Arraez couldn't play 2nd or 3rd base, then his batting average was "wasted" at 1st base. I like several of the options we have at first base and think Kirilloff will be JUST as productive as Arraez(in different ways of course.)
  16. Seem to be mixing two different things here. Bomba Squad overated (title to the article) combined with how it affected the Twin's team moving forward. I don't think they were overated. Nelson Cruz had a 1961 Harmon Killebrew type of season.....101 wins is firmly on Cruz's back! Getting rentals to "make a run" also doesn't have any long term affects. Giving up PROSPECTS to "make a run" is where the front office can get in trouble (with me.) The risk for the front office is giving up prospects to "make a run at a title" and then fall short. Now you have weakened your farm system and the longer term future of the team is poor. Those front office people end up being "former" front office people.
  17. The same logic would then translate to last year's ERA from our starters....their ERAs were 'artificially' lower...... because they pitched in the Central division.
  18. About a week ago I talked about the top three pitchers on Cleveland being tough to beat. Several Cleveland players on this all-star list as well. Maybe they DIDN'T do it with mirrors last year.........and this year will be tough to beat again!
  19. I have bought into the hype! Loved getting him where we did in the draft! Can't wait to see some minor league box scores for him!
  20. Moore completely RE-transformed his game last year. I get a little suspicious when that happens. I would imagine all the other teams are thinking the same thing. Waiting until the 40-man roster frees up.......is a good idea.
  21. Unfortunately for Polanco, 2nd base is often a "catch-all" position where infielders without a position often end up. Just like first base, we always have 5-6 candidates for the position. That makes him less valuable than if he was a solid SS or centerfielder. That is just how MLB works.
