  1. I really can't see both Hoffman and Pagan on this team. If we are keeping track of the numbers and Ober isn't on the starter's list....then Hoffman won't make it.
  2. Right now, it is hard to get Austin Martin into the top 10 of ANY list....hope he can turn it around!
  3. Love these type of articles Cody! Boy....the video/photo of Wallner (and that big leg kick,) is a recipe for striking out!
  4. I'm surprised they put Santana on waivers now. A younger guy who seems to have good stuff but struggles with throwing strikes. Hoffman is an older guy....who also struggles with throwing strikes. Not seeing the upside on this one.
  5. Looking like the Ober/Maeda "controversy" might be switching to the Maeda/Mahle "controversy." Maeda needs to build up to get to 3-4 innings and Mahle can't get past 2-3 innings.....
  6. Did I mention Maeda is 35 years old.......
  7. Hmmmm....maybe because one had Tommy John surgery and didn't pitch last year and the other was one of the Twins best pitchers last year (on a limited basis.)
  8. The spring training numbers have been coming in regarding the shift and more balls are getting thru for hits. Maybe a .15 rise on a player's batting average. "Possibly" Max's increase in batting average will be more than .15........but he will still be terrible compared to the rest of the league. The fact that the Twins were not able to trade him means that other teams see the same thing. Now we need to hope he can "turn it around" on his own.
  9. Ober will be part of the 5-man rotation. Injury will probably happen in the next two weeks but otherwise Maeda is an obvious choice for the bullpen. I think Maeda is a long way from being "stretched out" to 5+ innings. (maybe safer to not "stretch him out" as well.)
  10. Matt, Nice use of the word...."cromulent!" :)
  11. Oh, what am I saying? When we start the season(every season,) thinking pitching, (or fielding, or hitting,) is a position of "strength," we all know that by the end of the season we will all be complaining about how weak our pitching was......LOL!
  12. Ober will be part of the 5-man rotation. Maeda probably won't be ready to go 5 innings (or Baldelli won't let him,) so Maeda is a good choice for the "2nd man in." Maeda also has experience in this role! Let him work 3 innings at a time for a month or two into the season and then start to build him up.
  13. What the Twins do is 99% dependent on how their "other" pitchers do. Ober, Ryan, Winder, etc. If it doesn't look like an easy path to 6 solid starters....then one of these will be extended. If Gray, Mahle, and Maeda end up being too expensive to re-sign, then that means we probably made it to the World Series! LOL!!
  14. I've commented about pitch framing before. The goal is to "fool" the umpire. MLB could easily eliminate this......because it is on video. The fact that it has not been eliminated speaks volumes as to how MLB feels about umpires and the accuracy of balls and strikes.
  15. Didn't someone do a comparative analysis of this? I think BOM is right....we keep getting hit with these elbow issues! Maybe it is "universal," .......but it seems to hit the Twins more often.....
  16. "Just a year removed from being a guy that put up a 3.62 ERA with more than a strikeout per inning at Double-A, Balazovic had turned into a complete pumpkin" ************************************ EVERY major league team has a dozen minor league pitchers better than this (above.). 2019 was the only year that Balazovic had numbers that would indicate......."boy, I think we have something here." THREE years ago he was a consensus top 100 pitching prospect. Now he just needs to fight to regain what he once had.....and we all hope that he does!!
  17. First base and DH are the two easiest spots to fill. They also are historically fill by bigger guys with bigger bats. That is why trading Arraez was easy if the Twins felt he couldn't hold up at 2nd base but wanted to get his bat into the line-up. His "numbers" as a 2nd baseman were awesome.......not so much at 1st base (compared to the production of other 1st basemen or DH's.) Moving Julien, Arraez, etc., to 1st base or DH means sitting a "big bat." (Of course....the Twins need to develop a big bat because Nelson Cruz(s) and Jim Thome(s) don't grow on trees either!)
  18. The problem with these projections is that they (and the rest of us) need to try to factor in if the player will remain "healthy" the entire year. If PECOTA "knew" that Buxton would be playing 150 games this year, his HR total WOULD be higher. "Hope for the best....plan for the worst."
  19. Any word on Connor Prielipp? (or do none of the minor leagues get rolling on the spring training yet?)
  20. Still going to be tough to match up against Bieber and McKenzie. We will have to beat them with...... "Depth!"
