  1. Totally agree with Mike above! Everyone can be a DH and "MOST" everyone can play 1st base. Heck, Arraez played 1st base a good chunk of last season and I am guessing he never played there in the minors(?) Those two positions are the easiest to fill. 1st base has historically been a spot for a taller fielder with good power (closer to a "plodder" than a "speed" guy. The reason for this is that it is one of the easier positions to play (if there is such a thing as an easy position.) Even the less graceful Hrbek played it effectively. Being taller is also a defensive bonus at that position.
  2. "It’s why I’m going slow, so I can start building up from there and I start doing more things. Once I start doing that, I think I’ll be ready to go. … I feel good right now. It’s just the plan." ********************************* Boy, that build up should have started a couple of months ago....not yesterday! Either he is an "old timer" who comes unprepared to Spring Training to "get in shape"........or.......he is still affected by the knee and we therefore NEED Solano. I don't like either of those options! And yes to PDX....there are not any great options to lead-off.....it will be Solano against lefties!
  3. I think we had this same conversation about Buxton 3-4 years ago regarding service time(?) He was bitter because he didn't get called back up (or am I mis-remembering?) Bottom line......he signed an extension with the Twins. Same will happen here.
  4. I don't care how great of a Spring training he has, he will end up in St Paul (at best.) Two Cinci cast-offs have assured this. Plus, they will need to wait until (April 15th-ish?) to get that extra year of service time.
  5. If Mahle gets in over 130 innings this year, it will be hard for the Twins to NOT win the division in MHO.
  6. Rodriguez is only 19 years old right now. He will still be a prospect in two years!
  7. I don't see Rocco changing his stripes with the starting pitchers. I think we will have an effective bull pen......so there is no need for the starters to go thru the line-up a 3rd time (unless they are killing it!) :)
  8. I didn't see it listed anywhere....what is his "primary" position? (just "infield?") Not thrilled with this addition.....but if he starts because Polanco is not ready yet.....he will be our lead-off hitter! Who else can be lead-off?
  9. On base guy....yep we need that! Who is going to bat lead-off for the Twins this year? Polanco? (maybe not 100% healthy?) Kepler? (If I see Kepler leading off again I might throw-up!) An injury or two and Martin has a hot Spring.....maybe him?
  10. Cleveland's pitching staff is still going to be tough to deal with....but I would agree that the Twins will have improved the most. Much of this is based on the fact that the injury situation will be much better (can't be worse....right?)(right?)
  11. A spot start once in a while(because we all know it will be needed at some point.) I am still hopeful he can at least be "that guy."
  12. Alcala (someone can clarify if he has options left) will probably be at AAA to start the season. Injured all last season....he will need to re-establish himself. I would anticipate a rough Spring training due to all the time off..... but he will eventually be able to prove himself again.
  13. That would be very disappointing if Buxton plays in less than 100 games!
  14. Posted 16 hours ago We can't move Correa to 3rd because he makes too much to play there? Did I infer incorrectly? ************************************** Yes, you infer correctly. His value is as a shortstop. His stats as a shortstop are awesome!! His stats don't translate nearly as well as a 3rd baseman(middle of the pack?) FYI, Correa would've been 11th in HRs, 5th in BA, 3rd in OBP, 7th in SLG, and tied for 5th in wRC+ amongst qualified 3Bs last year. He was tied with Devers for wRC+. Devers just got 10 years, 313.5 million. Correa would certainly be a better fielder. Machado got 10, 300 that he's going to opt out of cuz he's going to get even more. Arenado got 8/260. Correa would be a top 5 3B, and they all get the same kind of money as he did. ****************************** Again, his higher value is as a shortstop. The Twins were not signing him that contract to be a 3rd baseman. 3rd base is a much easier spot to come up with a comparable bat. Now go look at his stats compared to shortstops........
  15. It is Lee we are talking about. And if Lewis is a better shortstop, you don't sign Correa for 6 years. And....Lewis.... is not a better shortstop. And....Lee..... is not a better shortstop. Whew...glad we cleared that up. :)
  16. I think Kiriloff and Larnach are finally going to live up to their first round pick status!
  17. Everyone of them seems aggressive on the ERA. I would take the over on almost everyone of them. Something seems "off." Did they change the schedule and we play the Tigers and Royals 84 times this year??
  18. We can't move Correa to 3rd because he makes too much to play there? Did I infer incorrectly? ************************************** Yes, you infer correctly. His value is as a shortstop. 19. Lee being forced to play 3rd with CC at short? How about the older guy with the bad wheel moving to 3rd to make room for the younger, healthier Lee? ************************************** If Correa moves to third in the next couple of years, we WAY OVER paid for him!
  20. Yes, start him back in AA (he played less than a dozen games there?) But then......move him up quickly as soon as he shows success. :) 2023 is probably wishful thinking....but a guy can wish!!!!
  21. Agree with JKCarew here. Gallo's bat doesn't compare to Adam Dunn......but his defense allows him to still be a major leaguer. I'm afraid the strike outs and .210 batting average will wear thin with this crowd......
  22. Spending Pohlad money (increasing the payroll) is never an issue for me. I view Hand as a similar reliever to Fulmer. There are always 1-2 relievers injured during Spring training....... so Megill and Hand would probably both make the roster anyhow.
  23. So maybe full time player with the Saints by.......July-ish? Is that what I am reading?
