Tough Decisions Are On Deck for the Twins
Battle ur tail off replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm fine with him going to AAA for a bit. It will not be long until Kiriloff injures his wrist anyway IMO. They are basically the same player, ride the hot one and move back and forth as needed. -
Yes, how can you not have Frankie V as a core player. He was flat out amazing in 87 and 88. He also added Tapani and Aguilera who were vital to the run in 91.

Any dummy can play first base though if they can hit. I know, I know. But I would rather have my worst infielder there than at 3B.

His best position was always going to be 1st or DH. He isn't a butcher in the field, but I would feel much better watching Royce Lewis over there. His bat so far has been his problem more than his fielding IMO. He hasn't hit for much power, and to me it seems like he is chasing a bit much and ends up getting himself into unfavorable counts leading to the lack of power.

Both have looked fantastic so far. Gallo has massive power and a good eye at the plate. Vasquez has been excellent behind that plate and has hit very well for a catcher also.

He's been a stud so far for the most part. Gets lots of chases just off the outside corner on that slider or curve or whatever it is hes throw what seems to be 50% of the time. I think he is finally fully healthy and that is why we are seeing him able to go longer into games. His command is MUCH better than it was last year - so far.

Great game. That was 10 years of Yankee frustration coming out in that first inning. Their pitcher was leaving EVERYTHING up and over the middle it was batting practice, fun to see. Ryan was great. The whole rotation has been excellent. Hope they can keep this up the whole year. Once these injuries heal up and we get some guys back, we could be dangerous.

They Are Who We Thought They Were!
Battle ur tail off replied to Alex Boxwell's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Agree, but isn't this what everyone wanted? Pitching? You win or lose as your pitching goes. That said you have guys underperforming thus far, a few guys hurt and I don't think it's fair to say that they won't be able to outscore people, it is simply too early to tell IMO.- 31 replies

They will come around IMO. One thing though, Correa started slow last year too before turning on at the end. Hope it doesn't take half a season for our #2 hitter to get going.

I would say you are right and it goes back to injuries. Get Polanco, Kiriloff and Lewis back and we will see if it looks any better though.

I don't think we see him in CF at minimum until the weather turns nice. After that, I would say they play him there a time a week or so. Down the stretch if it is a close race maybe they put him out there more. But I would not be one bit surprised to find him be the DH ALL YEAR LONG either. Guessing the front office thinks if they can get 135-140 games of Buxton as the DH with close to his defensive production out of Taylor, then it is probably better than getting 90 games out of him or not having him for a hopeful playoff series.

Reviewing the Tyler Mahle Trade
Battle ur tail off replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Neither of them profile as all-stars though. And what we had in front of them were athletes that play premium defensive positions and are top of the line athletes. They weren't playing here and will be most likely bit players or major league average type guys. Fine players, but are you playing them over guys like Lewis, Julien, Lee, Miranda, Martin etc? Because that is who are/were blocking them. I am fine if the Twins trade these types of prospects every year for mid rotation pitching or stud relievers. Keep your up the middle athletes and use the rest to bring back whatever it is your team or organization is missing.- 57 replies

Yes, but think of it this way. They have also given up 2 runs in like 22 or so IP from their starters. They have, dare I say been dominant so far. Today will be tough against their stud and probably our worst starter. We will see what happens.

He looks awesome. It would be a huge development and something I don't think a ton of people saw coming if he can continue this type of hitting. Like anyone, staying healthy is going to be key, but having a middle of the order hitter out of a guy most saw as a likely part-ish time player batting towards the bottom would be a real net positive for the lineup.

Forget Kiriloff. Honestly, his career is over and it's a pipe dream that he ever comes back and plays many games. The wrist is gone.

100% with you. Not sure why they want to try guys at the top that have trouble getting on base. A good leadoff hitter is also something that I feel is super important to a good lineup. Not even sure who we have that gets on base at the clip we'd want out of a leadoff hitter though... Honestly, Polanco might not be a bad choice whenever he gets back.

Great series. Starting pitching was fantastic. Royals looked terrible and hapless though. Rocco still looks like he will give up 7-8 games this season because of his pitching usage. Larnach! Jeez he looks good. Gallo hammered a couple yesterday. Great start! Let's keep it rollin...

If this rotation stays healthy along with our top bullpen guys, I think it will be a good season. Still IMO alot of question marks in that starting rotation on the health front though, we will see.

Twins 2023 Position Analysis: Relief Pitcher
Battle ur tail off replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He will. You can take it to the bank. Rocco will not let his guys go 3 times through the order most nights. Maybe I watched a different season than you did. I understand if they are sitting at 5 complete and 75 pitches while giving up 0 or 1 runs. If his starter is in the 4th or 5th inning and has completed 2 times through the order and given up more than 1 run, he pulls them pretty consistently. No matter which pitcher they were. I just saw so many games be lost with last year when the Twins counted on 4-5 guys a night to be on their game most nights to win a ballgame.- 47 replies

Twins 2023 Position Analysis: Relief Pitcher
Battle ur tail off replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Where are the guys that can go multiple innings? This is where the Twins staff failed last year. Rocco burns these guys up one inning at a time daily. WE NEED REAL BRIDGE GUYS. Yanking starters after 4 and 5 KILLS bullpens full of one inning guys and that is what you have another collection of there. Ober should be in the bullpen. There is ZERO need for Pagan.- 47 replies

No Polanco? Now What?
Battle ur tail off replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Not good to have Polanco out. He is as was mentioned one of our best 3 hitters consistently. That said, at least we have some depth options. My only worry is that this is more than is being lead on. If I had to guess, I think we hear in the next month or so is that he will have surgery. This is how the Twins roll with injury stuff. 8 months of rest and it's still not better? Something is wrong for certain. For now: Gordon, Farmer, Julien(maybe). Defensively, I don't think you'd lose a ton with any of those options. On offense though, you will take a hit. Long term outlook: Lewis. He is the savior. Lee, he is as well. Can either be ready to make an impact this year? Next year I would like to see those 2 manning 2B/3B with Miranda as the full time first baseman.- 39 replies
