    Maybe but I think the play IF you are going to move Aareaz is to make it for pitching and high end stuff at that. Otherwise, I would rather just keep him and wait for Lewis/Lee.

    My guess, the Twins knew he would go for over 300 mill, so they dropped in an offer for 285. They have done it in the past multiple times. It's called a token offer and I would bet my house that if Boras called them back and said "hey we are good with you 285 offer" that the Twins would pull it. I don't trust any Twins FO/owner and never will. We have seen this game played way too many times...

    Then it's worth it I suppose if they would bite. That said, I feel like Aareaz is one of our better trade chips, so would rather see us package him up for top pitching than go after a corner of the diamond player for one year or that we would have to pay a bunch to right away. I know it's been said they aren't moving either of them, but I would be hard after Milwaukee's young starters. They would have more impact on this team long term than anyone else I can see out there right now(that is semi-available)

    I would be all for the MLB reliever. Especially if it is someone who throws hard or has some interesting pitch. A prospect in that range would also be a good return IMO if that is the kind of guy he fetches.

    I suppose you are right. Max Kepler + 2.5 mill for Gallo and whatever prospect he nets you back.

    Kepler's trade value? By himself, my guess would be basically a lottery pick type prospect. Someone not in a teams top 20 guys for sure. This is why picking up Gallo made zero sense. They are very similar players. So we are going to pay someone more money to do the same job and we are going to move the guy we have for a nobody...

    I don't see them trading a cornerstone player for players that play on the corners and haven't hit yet. If you really wanted him, my guess is they would ask for Miranda plus our best pitching prospect... That or possibly Polanco plus our best pitching prospect. IMO Larnach and Kiriloff are close to untradeable right now with their injury concerns and the fact that neither play good defense or did anything in their time up here last year.

    Proud of em. And proud that we will probably have to give up our leadoff hitter + to bring anyone in that resembles something better than a #4 starter.

    The sad thing is, is that this is even a talker. It is only that way because our front office refused to basically pick up anyone of value this offseason. How sad. And I am also a no to Trevor Bauer. He's a dink whether or not what he allegedly did is true.

    But is it realistic that this happens? The articles I read said Correa at this point was not interested in restructuring the length or dollar value of his contract. To get him, IMO, the Twins would have to call his camp today and offer that same 12/315 that the Mets did and tell him they basically will just take a chance on his health. Not sure the Twins would do this and I doubt some short term deal does it. Unless they are willing to do something like 3/150 or something like that. I don't even think that would get it done.

    My point with my post is that Paddack is a dime a dozen and isn't even worth a half day of worrying about for them while Correa is one of the top players in MLB and will have an effect on your team if you sign them. Having Paddack on your team makes about as much difference as the mascot they run out there to run around before games.

    It would not have mattered though and you know it. It is not enough for the Twins to "match" real contenders on deals like this. Heck, it isn't enough just to beat them. They have to blow them out of the water to convince a star player to come here.

    Maybe, but here is the difference. Paddack is a nothing even when he is fully healthy. At best a #5 starter or swingman. They flat out probably just didn't care, because, well he is a mid level at best starting pitcher. Correa, yes the money is crazy, but you are getting a top 2-3 SS when signing him. Big difference.

    Combine that with oodles of strikeouts, boom or bust hitting, zero running game, hardly any defense being played, pitchers only going 4-5 innings, too many analytics to keep track of. Yep, I'm with ya. It's just not a fun game anymore. What is dumb though, is that MLB HAS to see what is going on, yet they continue to allow all this to happen, knowing full well that in a decade, there is a chance the league flat out folds. That or it is just contained to about 6 teams and the rest either fold or become AAA franchises. That is basically what they are anyway.

    What's he worth though in a trade? Your analysis will likely be what other teams think as well. I would rather put a little hope in a guy that showed some fire in his belly and athletic talent that he has to be a "guy". Even if it's as a super utility playing 130-ish games, that is the same as a starter in today's baseball. My takeway is don't move on from athletic kids that play hard when the return on them isn't more than what he "could be". He costs nothing to keep around here, has plenty of value to the Twins the way it is, and there may be a chance he improves more and becomes one of your cornerstones, even if that chance is slight.

    Yep, and that is something I would try the other way once to see if it works. Obviously what they have been doing, doesn't.

    Maybe, would you? The only reason I don't is because Mahle is the closest thing to a STUD we have on the mound - if healthy. I would in a second trade that trio for either of the Brewer starters though...(of course it wouldn't be enough) It doesn't matter, trades like that never happen anyway, not sure what you are getting at?

    My take on it is, if they weren't/aren't able to sign real studs and difference makers, then just stand pat on it. Signing guys like Gallo and the like does nothing except take playing time from younger, cheaper players. And if they are going to trade, same things, get a stud or don't do anything. Twins have for years signed washed up, bargain guys and WASTED piles of money doing it. I would rather just see them stay away from these types of garbage bin players. Go all in for real studs, either in FA or trades and fill in the rest with your minor league systems. The half in/half our way in which they have operated forever gets them nothing. I DON'T WANT B AND C LEVEL BALLPLAYERS in free agency. If you are looking for those types, find them in your minor league system. Quit wasting 30-50 million a year on retreads, old guys, or bounce back players. A person should make a list of all of these types the Twins have signed over the years and how much money they have wasted on them. Take that same 30-50 and get 1-2 studs. Quit with the "sign just to sign" guys.

    What can he do for an encore? Play SS and hold it down until Lewis is ready? LOL, not sure if this has been a thought or if he can handle this, but if the kid can hit and bring the same level of play he did last year, I feel like this isn't a terrible option. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like after last year, there is a chance we are just scratching the surface of what he is capable of being. He was a 5th overall pick after all...

    Making long term deals like that one is going to hurt in the back half. It is also acknowledging that as a small market team, you will probably be punting on seasons when that dropoff happens. But in the meantime, you will get outstanding production at the start. Now I am not saying it would have been smart to sign Correa for that type of deal, but I would be OK with the Twins trying to go all out to win once in a while, all the while knowing that rebuilds will all but be guaranteed after a period of success. What they have done doesn't work. They don't pursue FA aggressively, they don't draft aggressively and they don't trade aggressively. Everything is done for "sustainable success" or "payroll flexibilty" or "team control" or "positional flexibility". It is all a joke a way to get everyone to buy into the fact that they want to always be decent, but never a real threat.

    My point is they never go all in no matter what. To be honest this time I am more forgiving of it this time, than I was in 06, 10, 19. We had full teams then. This team has no bullpen, a staff full of #3-4 starters and what amounts to below average defense in the infield and outfield if Buxton is not in the game. At this point if I am the FO, I am going "all in" to get pitching. This means trading away anyone and everyone for top end guys. I am not talking about BS guys like Mahle or Gray. I am talking about guys like Milwaukees starters, or bringing in Rodon. Lopez or Alcantara from the Marlins. Instead we will see them trade some marginal players for more pitching "depth" that makes no discernable difference. Probably will sign another reclamation project pitcher as well. I guess whatever, one of these years Livan Hernandez or Sydney Ponson is going to lead us to a world series. They can run out all the Brooks Lee or Royce Lewis's that you want, until you quit throwing out on the mound a bunch of Nick Blackburn clones or guys in your bullpen like Pagan's it won't matter

    I don't even think either is worth overpaying for, but you just got over falling for or hoping on Correa. We all know this has no chance of happening.

    This post sums up perfectly how I feel about the Twins. They had so many chances over the years to go for it and they never have, instead preferring to hold onto what amounted to B level prospects and players. Hicks, Slowey, Soriano, Lee, 2019, again this year(Mahle is no stud) Trading away Santana, not extending Hunter, trading Berrios. Instead coming up with guys like Rick Reed, Matt Capps, etc etc. These are not "going for it" players. And those are not "winning moves" Even this year Castillo was the guy, not Mahle. They just cannot get over their fear that they may mess up "contending in the future". Well the fact of the matter is, they haven't "contended" since probably 1992. I get why they do what they do. And I am not sure right now is even a time they should go all in. (It would if Buxton could ever stay on the field). But it is just the a perpetual feeling of hopelessness that they will ever do anything to make themselves into a true contender that is hard to swallow.

    My question is why didn't we offer this same package last year? If we had offered him 10/285 last year before the start of the season I think he takes it, don't you? Or even 8/250! He flat out came to them last year looking for a place to go. Why was there not a greater effort to go long term at this time?

    100%. Baseball is over for all but about 5-7 fanbases. It loses people because it is a slow game, and now it has gotten to a point where most of the teams don't matter at all. They are just cannon fodder for the east or west coast teams. Pile on top of that TV deals where half of the country can't even watch their hometown team. Not sure why they don't consider a salary cap. The NFL is run right and look at it success. EVERY fanbase feels like they have a chance and they spend oodles of money supporting their teams. Baseball is broken and won't last more than another couple decades at most.
