    Did the Guardians have a "real chance" last year? I wouldn't say going into it that they did, but I feel like with what we saw at the end of last year if play like they did down the stretch and into the playoffs and their FO doesn't add to that team, it would be a travesty. In fact, their fans are probably clamoring for some help to get that roster over the top. PS I am in no way saying that spending like San Diego does work or that it is what I want the Twins to do. I just want them to be able to recognize that when they is a shot or they have generational talent around like M&M, Santana, etc. that they do whatever is necessary to help those teams get over the hump, no matter the cost.

    No, don't spend just to spend. Spend when you have Johan freeking Santana dominating the league and you have a .220 hitter as your DH. Alfonsa Soriano maybe? Who did we have to hold onto? Scott Baker maybe? Spend when your lineup is the best in baseball but you are trotting out Carl Pavano as your #1. Cliff Lee anyone? We HAD TO HAVE AARON HICKS. Spend when you have a team full of young guys that are making peanuts but you are missing a SS and a top of the rotation starter. I'm with you, it's dumb to spend just to spend. And I don't like it for no reason. I just feel like over the years, the Twins being cheap and stingy with their prospects cost them oodles of playoff wins. They flat out wasted teams that were pretty stacked and had guys Hunter, Santana, Mauer and Morneau.

    Right, it is probably almost over. But wouldn't you rather have a real chance to win a title or at least playoff games for a period of years, then tear it down if you have to and start over? Or would you rather wait and wait and wait and wait for your guys to develop and hope you can catch lightning in a bottle one of those years. Employ Justin Tyner as your DH when you have the best pitcher that has ever put on a Twins uniform. Or trot our Carl Pavano as your Ace when you have a lineup that is killer and 2 of the best lefthanded bats your org has ever seen. I don't know, I am not saying what San Diego has done is the right thing, but at least their fans feel like they might have a chance, which is more than you can say around here if everyone is being honest with themselves.

    Right, their TV deal sucks. It's correct, but what is the difference between what they have vs say the Padres? My guess is it would amount to another 20 million a year spent at most. The Pad's spend because they want to, and the Twins don't spend because they don't. Even if they are to end up with Correa, it will come at the expense of signing guys down the line or even keeping our homegrown talent here. Twins have always done it this way. There is a reason why there are alot of fans of this team can't stand them(Pohlads) I honestly think they do a fine job now. But when they were winning and had some real stud players here(see last few years in the dome + first few years in Target field) they flat out dropped the ball. They were cheap and they literally threw away about 10 years of competitive teams because they would not push the envelope both payroll wise, and/or trading prospect wise. Twins are going to have to actually win big to get back some fans or convince them they aren't cheap. They just have hammered their fans into oblivion and all but the most rapid ones are pretty much gone...

    You might be right. And you also might have exposed yet another way that MLB is cutting it's own throat and basically making the entire league a 5-6 team or so competition.

    Are they really gonna pony up 300 mill? Seems as if the Turner got as much money as he did that the Giants have made at least that big of an offer to Carlos already. Maybe I am wrong, but I would guess if the Twins are still in it, they have made a very substantial offer. That or Correa's market isn't what he thought it was!

    I would agree. If they are willing to move a guy like Aaraez, I would prefer it be for someone that would be our number 1. Even if you have to add to the deal(you will)

    So you would be OK trading Aaraez for a guy that profiles the same as a guy like Joe Ryan or Mahle? To me, if you are going to trade your leadoff hitter/best hitter, it needs to be for a guy that is Ace quality. Even if it takes a package(which it likely would) I feel like moving a guy that does as much as he does for this lineup, you need to bring back a real stud. Not a 2-3 starter. Someone that is better than any starter we have on the roster right now as slots ahead of them in the rotation. In fact ANY trade with ANY player we for pitching use should have that caveat. We just have lots of 3-5 type arms in the system right now. How about Aaraez and one of our minor league pitchers for Woodruff? Winder? Varland? SWR? Could we add some other prospect other than Lee or Lewis position player wise that they might want?

    I'd rather we pull a kid off of a local high school team and give him innings than this guy. Move on. He sucks!

    I am indifferent on this move. We gave up nothing to get him. Basically this ends up looking like trading 1-year of Urshella for 2 years of this guy. I haven't seen him play much so I will reserve judgement, but I also feel like moving a guy that was pretty solid and literally the most durable player on the team wasn't a great idea with the glass joe guys we already carry on this roster...

    I think you just hit on the reason they did this. It's the team control. They feel like they can pay this guy peanuts and he can fill SS or somewhere else in the infield if needed. I don't feel like this is a winning move in any way. But it is a Falvine move. "Team control" 2 of their very favorite words.

    I would prefer they start him out as long relief. And if I'm being honest, I don't think he will contribute much. He's 35 coming off TJ. I hope I am wrong, but I think his days are over. Twins will try and sell it though as a stud coming back for the rotation. We all know better than that. If it happens, great, but counting on him for much is a mistake IMO.

    The only way I want any of these guys is on short term deal. They are all old and going to fall off a cliff. Offer 2-year 110 million dollars, I don't care how high the AAV is. What I don't want is guys 35-38 years old pitching for 25-35 per year that are brutal and make it impossible to add players down the line. Make them rich short term or move on. It is not worth giving major long term money to any ballplayer that is over the age of 30-32. Haven't we learned this by now.

    These are the kinds of guys I have always been against signing. And the Twins continue to do it year after year. Pickup 2 of these types of pitchers and 2-3 of these types of position players. All while wasting money that could have been used to buy 1 or 2 studs. TRUST YOUR MINOR LEAGUES. Only sign or trade for studs. Use your system to fill in.

    "IF" you are going to hand out long term deals to position players, then I would prefer someone that plays both sides of the ball and is under the age of 30. I would either go all in for Correa or find a placeholder. That said, it this will be the last year in a few when they are so many good SS on the FA market. They better be sure Lewis or Lee can stick there if they don't end up getting someone this offseason. Of course, there are always trades.

    This could work, but don't expect anything from Kiriloff. My gut feel, he is done. As is done for good. I also HATE Arraez at any position besides 1B. He is flat out not a good fielder anywhere else. I literally love the guy as a player, but I think shopping Polanco for pitching is probably not a bad idea this offseason. That said, I don't want to move him for peanuts or for guys way down the line, Would love to be able to use him to get major league ready/ML pitching, stud relief help, etc. Not sure this is feasible, and this would likely lead to more Aaraez at 2nd, but I would at least put some feelers out there to see what his value in across the league.

    Shift is gone after this year. But I would also disagree on 3B being harder to play. 2B has much more ground to cover, has to handle cuts, double plays, etc. Catcher, SS, 2B, CF that is where I want all of my athletes if possible.

    I honestly think the Twins need to sign an outfielder this offseason. Someone right handed that can hit the ball above average. That way, when Buxton sits out, we would have someone that can play on a corner and move either Kepler or Celestino to center and not worry about how they hit. That or sign a real CF that can both field the ball well and hit. Either way, you will need someone to backup Buxton, because there is only a 2% chance he plays more than 90 games or so. Even when he is in there, he is the DH as often as the CF. I think Celestino has the defensive talent to replace him, but his bat isn't great. He also needs "baseball class" for the entire offseason to learn how to actually play the game. It boggles my mind that a guy can make it to the major leagues, yet be much further behind in knowing how to play than the average 16u travel ball player.

    I would prefer a guy with that kind of athletic ability and defensive prowess to play a middle of the diamond position though, wouldn't you?

    I love what Gordon did this year. He was finally healthy and produced. I love his speed, athleticm and ability to play multiple spots. He also seems to have a pretty good persona about him. Big fan after this year, let's hope it wasn't a flash in the pan and he can continue as a piece of this core for awhile.

    I agree that he plays hard. His attitude inside some players on this roster with more talent would sure make things fun again. Hard to really call for seeing more of him next year, but I agree, he brings something to the Twins that we don't see a ton of anymore. Hats off to him.

    Twins need a strong backup catcher. One that is all defense. They need to figure out SS. They need righthanded pop in the outfield. Pitching? I'd love to have some kind of top arm, but I just don't see it in free agency. Our best hope is that one of these prospects develops. It really is too bad that Canterino got hurt, he IMO is the only one in the higher part of our system that had the stuff and looked the part of a real ace/difference maker. If the Twins can't sign Correa, I don't think it makes any sense to try to bring in high end arms from outside the system. They literally have to see what they have in this gaggle of 7-8 guys that are sitting at MLB/AAA/AA. These are the players that will make a break the Twins for the next 3-4 years. I honestly wouldn't know what to do here if I were the Twins FO. If guys don't get hurt and things shake out, they could compete with the roster they have now + very few additions. However, if all of this young pitching we have BOMBS next year, then everyone is going to be wild if we don't bring anyone in to supplement them. They are in a hard spot IMO.

    I'm not sure this list does us any good as there is a pretty good chance that half or more of these guys resign with the club they are currently playing on...

    Cleveland Guardians get 7-2/3 out of their starter today. Then they let their top bullpen arm get the last four outs.
