    I would prefer they start him out as long relief. And if I'm being honest, I don't think he will contribute much. He's 35 coming off TJ. I hope I am wrong, but I think his days are over. Twins will try and sell it though as a stud coming back for the rotation. We all know better than that. If it happens, great, but counting on him for much is a mistake IMO.

    The only way I want any of these guys is on short term deal. They are all old and going to fall off a cliff. Offer 2-year 110 million dollars, I don't care how high the AAV is. What I don't want is guys 35-38 years old pitching for 25-35 per year that are brutal and make it impossible to add players down the line. Make them rich short term or move on. It is not worth giving major long term money to any ballplayer that is over the age of 30-32. Haven't we learned this by now.

    These are the kinds of guys I have always been against signing. And the Twins continue to do it year after year. Pickup 2 of these types of pitchers and 2-3 of these types of position players. All while wasting money that could have been used to buy 1 or 2 studs. TRUST YOUR MINOR LEAGUES. Only sign or trade for studs. Use your system to fill in.

    "IF" you are going to hand out long term deals to position players, then I would prefer someone that plays both sides of the ball and is under the age of 30. I would either go all in for Correa or find a placeholder. That said, it this will be the last year in a few when they are so many good SS on the FA market. They better be sure Lewis or Lee can stick there if they don't end up getting someone this offseason. Of course, there are always trades.

    This could work, but don't expect anything from Kiriloff. My gut feel, he is done. As is done for good. I also HATE Arraez at any position besides 1B. He is flat out not a good fielder anywhere else. I literally love the guy as a player, but I think shopping Polanco for pitching is probably not a bad idea this offseason. That said, I don't want to move him for peanuts or for guys way down the line, Would love to be able to use him to get major league ready/ML pitching, stud relief help, etc. Not sure this is feasible, and this would likely lead to more Aaraez at 2nd, but I would at least put some feelers out there to see what his value in across the league.

    Shift is gone after this year. But I would also disagree on 3B being harder to play. 2B has much more ground to cover, has to handle cuts, double plays, etc. Catcher, SS, 2B, CF that is where I want all of my athletes if possible.

    I honestly think the Twins need to sign an outfielder this offseason. Someone right handed that can hit the ball above average. That way, when Buxton sits out, we would have someone that can play on a corner and move either Kepler or Celestino to center and not worry about how they hit. That or sign a real CF that can both field the ball well and hit. Either way, you will need someone to backup Buxton, because there is only a 2% chance he plays more than 90 games or so. Even when he is in there, he is the DH as often as the CF. I think Celestino has the defensive talent to replace him, but his bat isn't great. He also needs "baseball class" for the entire offseason to learn how to actually play the game. It boggles my mind that a guy can make it to the major leagues, yet be much further behind in knowing how to play than the average 16u travel ball player.

    I would prefer a guy with that kind of athletic ability and defensive prowess to play a middle of the diamond position though, wouldn't you?

    I love what Gordon did this year. He was finally healthy and produced. I love his speed, athleticm and ability to play multiple spots. He also seems to have a pretty good persona about him. Big fan after this year, let's hope it wasn't a flash in the pan and he can continue as a piece of this core for awhile.

    I agree that he plays hard. His attitude inside some players on this roster with more talent would sure make things fun again. Hard to really call for seeing more of him next year, but I agree, he brings something to the Twins that we don't see a ton of anymore. Hats off to him.

    Twins need a strong backup catcher. One that is all defense. They need to figure out SS. They need righthanded pop in the outfield. Pitching? I'd love to have some kind of top arm, but I just don't see it in free agency. Our best hope is that one of these prospects develops. It really is too bad that Canterino got hurt, he IMO is the only one in the higher part of our system that had the stuff and looked the part of a real ace/difference maker. If the Twins can't sign Correa, I don't think it makes any sense to try to bring in high end arms from outside the system. They literally have to see what they have in this gaggle of 7-8 guys that are sitting at MLB/AAA/AA. These are the players that will make a break the Twins for the next 3-4 years. I honestly wouldn't know what to do here if I were the Twins FO. If guys don't get hurt and things shake out, they could compete with the roster they have now + very few additions. However, if all of this young pitching we have BOMBS next year, then everyone is going to be wild if we don't bring anyone in to supplement them. They are in a hard spot IMO.

    I'm not sure this list does us any good as there is a pretty good chance that half or more of these guys resign with the club they are currently playing on...

    I get what you are saying. And what I am saying is basically, I only want you if you will play for peanuts. If you won't, then good luck. There are always bottom feeder teams that would love to give you an invite to their spring training. Agree on the roster spot. Even if Pagan will play for nothing, I'm not sure it's worth wasting that spot on him when we have a whole pile of youngsters just about ready to break into the league.

    Honestly, I am kind of excited for all of these guys. Also, what is to say that some of these arms that are tabbed as starters now can't become effective relievers? If the Twins are able to employ what they wanted to do all along. Pay 1-2 starters and fill the rest with your pipeline, than I think it makes sense that guys like Varland, SWR, Winder, Ober, etc not be pigeonholed as absolute starting pitchers. Having 2-3 guys in your pen that can go multiple innings would be a huge help if in fact you plan to not use your starters much past the 2nd time through. Had we used(or had available) some of these guys this year to piggyback guys like Bundy, Archer, etc. The rest of our bullpen wouldn't have been beaten up so bad and there would have been no need for guys like Pagan, Duffey, Joe Smith, Megill, etc. One way or the other, I am going to give these guys some credit that for the first time in awhile, it looks as if we have all kinds of useful arms in the top of our system that may be available to use wherever the brass sees fit.

    Tell him you will pay him well less than he would get in arbitration or he will be non-tendered. If he wants to come back at that and be the very last option in the bullpen to start fine, if not, just cut him. If this guy is on my roster, I want him to know flat out that he will produce, or he is getting DFAed. "Hey bud, we will give you a million dollars next year if you are open to the possibility that you are the very first MFer DFA'd if you don't produce. That said, let him know that if he does produce, he could work himself back into a high leverage role. After that tell him take it or leave it. 1 mill or we will non-tender. See ya. No one else will match his arbitration numbers. He is a minor league signing with an invite to spring training type of guy. If indeed the FO goes to arbitration with him and tenders him a deal, this would be another example of the front office using spreadsheets over eyes and brains. He hurts our chance to win. Almost every time he steps on the mound. I would rather have anyone in our entire system take the rubber than this guy. Also, if you don't think retaining him has a negative effect on both the team and the fans, you aren't paying attention. Bring this guy back and EVERYONE will know it's more of the same.

    That part is not. And I think this is more than just Rocco earning back favor with fans, I think the front office needs to as well. Everyone knows they and Rocco adhere to the same philosophy. How many fans do you hear cry to fire them as well? It is quite a few. Honestly, if we look at this big picture, I do feel like their plan is close to working with the pitching. They have some guys that look like they will be big league starters and/or relievers, the key IMO is for one of them to become a "guy" and be the stopper everyone has been waiting for or enough of them that your BP is so strong we can get by with a bunch of 3-5 starters. Injuries killed them this year both on the ML team and the minors. I'm not in the fire them all camp, I would just like them to look inward and be able to adjust on the fly a little more next year. We just saw what beating your head against the wall over and over looks like.

    Then they should have had guys in the pen that could pitch multiple innings to piggyback those guys. They didn't. They mainly went with one inning guys each game.

    I didn't say they had to make a public statement about it, I'm not asking them to do that. I am asking them to look at themselves this offseason, then make changes as to how they go about the games next year. We would all notice a change in what they do if they in fact make it. As for using poor relievers, it's not your only option. When it is a close game and you know your pen is spent and if you pull a starter early say in the 5th , that you might have to use someone like Pagan that day. I guess I am fine with letting Bundy even take another inning than I am hoping that someone who has been performing terribly in a spot he can lose us a game. I do agree though that the way the bullpen was constructed, was surely not conducive to the type of pitching usage strategy them employed this season.

    For me, I just want him to watch the game with his eyes and react accordingly. Having an analytical approach to the season as a whole is fine by me. But when you can see your offense is struggling, it's OK to try and manufacture a run late in the game. When you can see a pitcher has it that day, it is OK to run them out a third time through the order. Especially in situations such as double-header, long stretch of games when your bullpen is tired, etc. In the same view, if a guy doesn't have it, it is OK to pull them early. It is also OK to not use certain players in your pen when you can see they haven't been effective. Pagan, Megill, Columbe, Duffey, etc. Rocco might and probably is an extention of the front office's strategy. I get that. I would however like them all to at least admit that they may not always know 100% the right way to do things. It's OK to change or tweak strategies in order to get the best out of your roster. Can or will they take a step back this offseason and possibly look at some of these things? I don't know if they will, but I sure wish they would.

    Get in the office now and give him an offer. Make it fair, but not stupid. If he says no, then move on. Remind him also that you are willing to do another deal like the last one if he can't find what he wants in a long term deal. Tell him he can have 50 mil for one year, who cares. I am not certain that it is worth it to go longer than 5 years with him. 5 years 40-50 per year, I would honestly be fine with that. I just don't want him around here playing 2B, 3B or DH, OPSing .650 and eating up a quarter of our payroll when he is 35-36-37

    Trade him or move him to AAA and I am 100% out as a fan. He is the only guy that has shown any kind of life this second half of the season. He also plays hard all the time. He's had a few errors recently, but alot of that has to do with the fact that we are out of it and no one cares anymore. Fans, coaches, players can all say they do, but when there is nothing left to play for, these kinds of things happen.

    Agree on all 3. I would also add, we may have one of the most dangerous relief pitchers in the game in Duran. Jax emerging as a guy we can count on in the bullpen could also be considered a positive. To point #2 though, counting on Maeda or Paddack is a mistake IMO. Basically, the Twins should act as if those 2 don't even exist and if they give you anything the rest of their careers it is a bonus.

    My main stickers. - Going into the season with 2 terrible starters on your staff, and only 1 guy that was proven(Gray) - Going into the season with a terrible bullpen(after trading away your closer) when you have an unproven and band-aided up starting staff.(just not good overall) - Having a manager that is so insistent on yanking guys early and leaning hard into a terrible bullpen(this will be my #1) They are so rigid with pitching usage, that they forget there is a game going on with humans right in front of their eyes - Not knowing how the run the bases or make basic defensive plays. - Us fans for believing that just signing Carlos Correa would lead us to the playoffs. Had we looked at it fairly, we would see that the gaggle of #4-6 starters, washups and bullpen projects on this team were many. Probably was unrealistic that we had any chance.
