  1. Give us another outfielder. At this point it doesn't matter. I don't want to see Cave or Beckham hitting anymore. Get someone with at least good contact skills and can play a decent outfield. There has to be someone we can DFA Beckham for that can at least not strike out with runners on base, let's go.
  2. Of course it is. - time to shut him down.? Why would we expect our best player to play when we are battling for a playoff spot? I hate this type of attitude and hate this type of post. Give up basically is what you are saying. There's a reason for the 18 straight playoff losses. This type of attitude is it. Kirby Puckett, ask him if you could shut him down with some nagging injuries in a playoff race. How about Dan Gladden? Think Jack Morris would have been shut down with some shoulder tightness? I get it, we want him for next year. But that is a ways off. Play now, rest later.
  3. Here's the deal. Last night we are a real outfielder away from winning this game. Against Verlander, on a day we start a AAA pitcher, that has to come out early. Twins are playing pretty bad, but last night wasn't terrible Sans Jake Cave. He can't be in the lineup anymore if he can't even put a ball in play to score a runner from third with less than 2 outs. Give me anyone that can somewhat track down a ball in the outfield and can make some contact. Cave and Beckham have been putrid offensively. Putrid.
  4. Jake Cave will stay on the 40 man as he has an option still. I would not be wise to DFA him now with the injury situation to our entire outfield unless you have someone else to take his 40 man spot that can play outfield and judging by the fact we are using Beckham, we don't.
  5. And what are we going to get out of him? He was not great when he was healthy. This is just adding another Bundy at best. No help, more treading water. Sanchez has been good in St. Paul and had a good game up here. Don't expect more out of Dobnak than a AAA guy that will get a spot start for the rest of his career with the Twins.
  6. Baseball wide problem. Pitchers take too long between pitches. Guys swing for the fence every pitch so there aren't as many baserunners or balls put in play. Stealing is done, bunting is done. Shifts take away tons of hits. Pitchers only throw a few innings per start. Flat out the game is just not very exciting anymore and hasn't been for quite awhile. It's just bad baseball all throughout the league right now, but MLB just continues to cut their own throats.
  7. My guess, unless he gets hot, he comes back. He isn't a player worth giving 2-300 million dollars to. Great player, but I don't see him getting more than 4-5 year deal at best from anyone. Maybe that is all it would take for him to sign on the dotted line and he does opt out and sign with someone for that. Honestly, he and Buxton being terrible at the plate for the last couple months is the #2 reason, behind the bullpen IMO, for their poor play and drop in the standings. Flat out your top 1-3 type hitters have to produce better than these 2 have lately. That said, I would LOVE to have him back next year and will welcome him with open arms should he decide to stay. I love his SS play and I think he is a better hitter than he has shown overall this season.
  8. Miranda and Gordon have held this team together and flat out carried them to win the last few weeks or months even. Can't say enough good things about these guys. In fact Gordon against a lefty today did alright. Kid is making a case to be an everyday outfielder. Love it.
  9. I agree, me too. I have to give the Twins some credit here. I thought 1 or both of them would be DFA'd by June. If we'd not have signed them and had to fill in with pitchers in our system, we'd be digging way way down with the amount of injuries to our home grown guys.
  10. Obviously TK and his crew did a good job with making sure the Twins were fundamentally sound. I agree though, the game has turned into either strikeout or hit a HR. I don't think that is something that is inclusive to the Twins though. It is taught at every level in both baseball and softball. Maximize your connection/power with a HLP swing. Never mind the fact that this can lead to lots of K's. Contact hitting is a thing of the past and that ranges from MLB all the way down to 12u.
  11. And why wouldn't Verlander stay with the Astros? They are a top 2-3 team in baseball, they are stacked and have things figured out, it's a constant pipeline. They aren't going anywhere. 25 million for one year? How many more years is he going to pitch? And does he want to do it with someone else or the team that is primed to win a WS every year?
  12. I agree on all except the Rocco hard and fast rule. He is almost 100% committed to not letting his starters see the order a 3rd time. It has cost us games. I agree with the talent part but every one of these guys has some kind of talent and can get hot. A starter sitting at 5 shutout innings with 2 hits and about 65 pitches should at least get a shot to start the next one, I don't care if the guy has a track record or is a rookie, save your pen and give them a shot. Pagan should have been DFA'd long ago, but for certain after that HR in Anaheim. Here is the real killer though. He NEEDS to be gone just to save Rocco from himself. Otherwise, as long as he can go out 1 out of 3 times and have a clean inning or strike 1-2 batters out, Rocco will keep running him out there and he will keep losing us games.
  13. I want no part of any of them other than if Correa decides to come back. Or I guess if any of the rest of that bunch would be willing to accept the same type of deal. High AAV, but short terms years, then yes any of them.(won't happen) Huge, long term contracts to guys already in their 30s never work out. Stay away.
  14. Yuck. Offense was bad all weekend. Manager just keeps doing his thing messing with pitchers and losing us close games. Id say they have to sweep KC or it’s going to be over. Cleveland is hot right now, maybe on fire. I honestly don’t know if it can happen anymore. I had lots of faith even before this series but it has now become even more obvious that this pitching staff just is really really bad and the offense is just missing too many guys. Even the new arms we got haven’t been saviors. They’ve been ok but they aren’t saviors. Couple that with a guy that insists using 4-6 pitcher every night and even if we stay close there is no way we can win a close race with him doing that
  15. Finally a solid start. Then we go to our rested bulls in the bullpen and it's over. This is the formula. Let's see if Rocco uses any of them tonight if we are in another close game. I would if I am him. Hopefully we can turn some of those hits into more runs and not worry about it and can use Megill and Pagan to suck up innings good or bad.
  16. Urshella has had big hits all year. And he has played a nice 3B. Has he had a prolonged hitting slump all year? How many errors? I can't remember many, but can remember some really nice plays. Also think he has been on the field alot, didn't check stats but I know I haven't heard of him out for any extended period or reports of him being banged up, etc. This guy is solid and exactly the type of dude teams need on their team. Hip hip hooray Gio.
  17. Bad game against a really good team, that kid on the mound, he is tough. I don't expect more than 3-4 runs in any game he is starting. Joe Ryan has been disappointing, but with a rested pen and Gray going tonight, people will be OK with this loss if we win tonight. Getting a split here is the best we could have hoped for anyway. Lets make it happen then go beat up on the Angels.
  18. Lots of stuff here. Yes, we only scored a couple and our offense is slumping right now. But here's the deal. Do we all think around here that in the playoffs you are going to be putting up 7-8 runs a game? Because that's not how it works. When you face a pitcher like the kid last night that is nasty and has great stuff, you have to expect you aren't going to put up crooked numbers every other inning. 3-4 runs HAS to win some games. Not all of them, but guess what, the other team's pitchers get paid to get you out too. Flat out, Gray should have pitched the 6th, Megill the 7th, Jax the 8th and Lopez the 9th. I bet the game sits at about 2-2 if you run these guys out there. Now win it. 4-5 innings for starting pitchers just doesn't work. We've seen the story over and over and over and over and over and over. I don't know how many times Rocco is going to yank starters early. Gray was at 95 pitches or something. BIG DEAL. Run him up to 110 or so and if he needs help to get 1 out in the 6th, fine. We are in a pennant race and have 2 team nipping at your heels! Every game matters! There is no world that a team can count on 4-5 relievers/pitchers every single night and expect to have success. There is just that much more of a chance that one or more of them is off. Until Rocco and his clipboard can figure this out, it will be more of the same. Yes we upgraded part of our bullpen, but the way Rocco uses the heck out of them, we need every single member out there to be high end guys. We don't have that. No team does.
  19. Yep so year and a half when we traded. This team needs him.
  20. And that’s a problem. Martin was the centerpiece of the Berrios trade. People said we win that trade. Hardly. We got a likely corner outfielder that can’t hit and pitching prospect that has no control for the best pitcher we’ve had here since Santana. System should be stocked after trading your #1 starter with years of control left. I’ll take Berrios leading this rotation right now and they can have back their broken prospects
  21. I'd take this guy if it means they are going to be able to hold onto Miranda, Kiriloff and Lewis. Get him, then find 2 relievers on expiring contracts. Let's go. Not enough to win it all, but at least enough to stay competitive the rest of the year. That said, if they are hellbent on adding the elite guys, then only 1 of those 3 I named can leave. I think it would be a mistake to move more than 1 of them.
  22. Lineup is fine IMO. Not perfect, but it is enough to compete with a competent pitching staff. Look at the runs scored vs those teams. Our lineup has put up a fair amount of runs against those same teams. We have given up a TON to them though, poor pitching.
  23. Walking guys late in the game is not good. Duffey looked so solid to his first hitter then he just lost it. Bundy is done. Flat out. I think he has worn out his welcome. He actually did a pretty good job making it this far into the season before turning into a pumpkin. Archer probably in for a similar fate today, I'm guessing he goes 4 at best. This kind of thing is just unsustainable all year when the bullpen you have is 2-3 deep of really solid guys. They need a starter and bullpen help. Even a starter that could slot in about #4 in our rotation paired with 2 solid relievers would help win the division.
  24. I also wonder if this is Sano's last dance with the Twins. That said, those saying he won't even be tendered a major league contract next year are off the mark IMO. For the league minimum, he offers alot of upside. My guess is he will find a one-year deal from someone without any problem at all if he shows any kind of anything these last couple months.
  25. Watch the games. Aaraez is a terrible fielder. At 3B, I have more confidence in a high end high school kid than him. I don't care what metrics say, there are balls he doesn't even get to or offer at that most 3B make the play. GREAT hitter, really poor fielder. If he has to play the field it needs to be right side where he has more time.
