Week in Review: Riding the Roller Coaster
Doctor Wu replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It was a much-needed week of redemption for Jhoan Durán, who was coming off a Pagán-esque nightmare series in Cleveland ... Pagan-eqsue? I don't know whether to groan or applaud you for such a wonderful phrase!- 6 replies

Joe Ryan Emerging as the Pitcher Minnesota Needed
Doctor Wu replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Ryan has been the most consistent member of the starting rotation thus far this season. I would guess that he is due for a meltdown of sorts at some time during the season, but then again maybe he will prove me and the other doubters wrong, and continue to pitch well. No, he's probably not going to challenge Pablo for the Cy Young award (sorry, I couldn't help it!), but when September rolls around, he may be the guy on the mound that we are pinning our hopes on.- 25 replies

What Should Happen to Miranda When Lewis Comes Back?
Doctor Wu commented on LA Vikes Fan's blog entry in LA Vikes Fan
That may not be a bad idea. Who is in need of more of a reset: Julian or Kiriloff? Whatever happens, I think Miranda should NOT be sent down again. Cut a guy like Farmer (who I loved last year) or Margot, but keep playing Miranda. -
What Should Happen to Miranda When Lewis Comes Back?
Doctor Wu commented on LA Vikes Fan's blog entry in LA Vikes Fan
Maybe it's not time just yet, but I really hope that Keirsey is promoted before the summer is over. Sure, I understand the doubters who site his age and multiple years in the minors, but I say; throw all that aside and bring the guy up to the majors. He has skills we could use. -
In recent years, an upcoming series against Kansas City would be cause for optimism, but not so this year. Royals are playing very well, and the Twins are still riding a rollercoaster.

My first thought when I saw the line was: he gave no hits but only pitched 2 innings?! Uh-oh. But thankfully, there wasn't any injury concerns, just control issues. I agree with FlyingFinn; let him pitch through the mistakes and all. He's still very young.

Former Twins, Where are they now? 2024 edition

All these Twins names from the past: Duffy, Bowman, Anderson ... it's like relief pitcher roulette going on! -
Former Twins, Where are they now? 2024 edition
Doctor Wu replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I always thought that Wade would be a useful player but never imagined he would be playing THIS WELL. More power to him! -
Considering that Jenkins and Lee JUST came off the IL and are playing again I would say that it's much too early to start reevaluating where they are in the rankings. Let's check back in another 2 or 3 months and maybe that will be worth discussing.

Yeah, I hesitate to say this was TOO MUCH good news, and wouldn't mind such an overflow of good stats every game, but wow, a great report from the farm! Terrific pitching, timely hits, and the top prospects back in action again. Spoil us some more! At some point there may be too many cooks in the kitchen, but great to see so many of these youngsters playing well.

Gallo is providing a LOT of enjoyment this year in that sense! He's barely hitting over .100 at this point.

Of course most people know about Beane from his tenure in the A's front office, and because of "Moneyball." but he really WAS the hot prospect back in the day. But that just shows: you never can tell how a player will do in MLB. One thing I learned from this post that surprised me: Beane was born in Orlando, Florida. Wow ... so was I!

Just hoping that a game like that one will help to fuel another winning streak!

I agree with that comment. In any case, I think it's still much too early in the season to start ranking the team's worst fielders. I think tony&rodney's suggestion might make for a more interesting article and analysis.

Former Twins, Where are they now? 2024 edition
Doctor Wu replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Yeah, Rooker is both hitting homers and has raised his batting average and OBP thus far this season. He was the A's lone all-star last year, and he might be that player again this season. -
Willie Joe Garry released?! I'm shocked. Any explanation for that move?

I agree with both posts above; Paddack has been as good as I hoped thus far. Sure, a few rough starts, but overall he is pitching deep into games, striking out a lot of batters and not walking many. A good recipe for success. But ... due to his past injury issues and coming back from TJ surgery, what sort of innings limit will he have this season? As noted earlier, he is pitching deeper into games already, so I wonder what the plan is for later in the season.

We signed or traded for, or just picked up on waivers, a BUNCH of relief pitchers during the off-season. Some intriguing arms in the bunch, but most of them seemed (to me) like roll-of-the-dice sorts of acquisitions. In any case, I wasn't ready to proclaim our bullpen one of the best in the league. Some obvious potential, but still too early to call some of these pitchers great additions or mistakes. We obviously weren't going to go out and sign a higher-priced free agent, so we'll had to remain somewhat content with these other additions. Once in a while we can strike gold by finding a retread like Brock Stewart, or getting someone like Duarte, only to have them get injured and out for a while, or even the rest of the season. Gotta keep taking chances, simply because there doesn't seem to be any tried and true formula for finding good arms.

C Cole Elvis transferred from Fort Myers to FCL Okay, I'm a big reader of crime fiction and I'm a fan of the Elvis Cole novels by Robert Crais ... but Cole Elvis? Gotta keep an eye on this player from now on!

I agree on both counts. Great reports that are very informative, but the lack of photo credits is very annoying.

Relief Pitchers. Do We Ever Really Know?
Doctor Wu replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I'm always puzzled and leery of relief pitchers and their track record. Up and down, hit and miss; use whichever cliche best fits, but you are right; there just isn't real way to figure out or predict how these relief pitchers will perform from one year to the next, or even from one month to the next. I remain perplexed.- 7 replies
