Well, according to Molitor, the Twins have built up a ton of character these last few days. Let's hope the Twins stop building character in Anaheim.

Well, according to Molitor, the Twins have built up a ton of character these last few days. Let's hope the Twins stop building character in Anaheim.

 

Yeah, hopefully heavy lifting is done, and only finishing touches are left. Maybe soon we can enjoy the character they have built.

 

Road games... we seem to be more on top of them this season.

 

Like it's okay to wear t-shirts and flipflops and loaf about the sofa that is Target Field, but we're on our best behavior at other folks' place so they know we were raised right.

Okay, let's look at it this way; we don't know where Los Angeles of Anaheim is and game time is way past our bedtimes so if the Twinks fail in their mission we can disavow all knowledge of their assignment. This should have quite a few comments by the time this game starts a month from now......

"Gee Wally...."  Not sure how many times I heard that watching Leave It to Beaver....which made me think of one of the top Angels of all time - Wally Joyner...which got me thinking to the greatest Twins of all time....

The two things I missed on my edits of the original. I flat out missed the wrong date. Heh. And the spelling of Wile. I knew it didn't look right in my first pass through and was going to check, then events at home made me forget.

So Trout is getting all of the praise these days for being the best player on the planet... BUT, how quickly we forget that not too long ago, Albert Pujols was literally the perfect baseball player for the first 10 years of his career. His stats were unbelievably consistent where his lowest BA was .299 (his 10th full season) 30+ HRs and 100+ RBI every year. 

 

I'll always remember when he broke Brad Lidge psychologically for years because of this monster bomb...

His stats were unbelievably consistent where his lowest BA was .299 (his 10th full season) 30+ HRs and 100+ RBI every year.

I've always been a big Pujols fan, but that is one of the defining moments of his career in my mind. I wish the clip would continue to show the Astro dugout reaction. Andy Pettitte's mouth drops wide open as you see him just say, "Wow." Clemens sits there speechless.  

 

Of course, the reason I've always been a big fan of him is this. My auction fantasy league has a rule that you can keep a player from year to year by increasing his price by $5, as long as you want (with a minimum of $12 on the first keep). I bought him as a $1 rookie and then had him at $12, $17, $22, $27, $32, $37, and $42. First eight years of his career at an average cost of $24 in a $260 league, when he was putting up $40-$45 stats. 

 

(Unfortunately, I usually parlayed the savings on Albert into bidding $15 on the likes of Luis Rivas, but Rivas isn't the subject of the game thread, so we'll ignore that part.)

There's so many little things to point out in that monster HR clip... Lidge immediately knows he messed up and goes down to his knees devastated. The Astros catcher immediately asks for a new game ball and runs out to calm down Lidge. Frankly, what on Earth could he have said in that moment to make Lidge not feel an inch tall? 

The crowd was going wild and after that moon shot, you could hear a pin drop.

The Cards are my favorite NL team, so I remember this bomb very well.  I remember laughing hysterically at the reactions of pretty much everyone there.  I also remember how quiet it got so quickly.  

 

Tom Verducci had a nice interview a week or two ago with Trout and Pujols and how they help each other.  It was pretty good insight between how two of the games best hitters learn from each other.
