It’s not “from my couch”. That’s baseball 101 taught from a young age. Lee shouldn’t have called but he shouldn’t have thrown. I complimented KC on his defense earlier in the game but that wasn’t the right play. HarmonK03 1

thelanges5 Verified Member Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago This team continues to struggle to play 9 good innings in a game. Been a fun season but they are not consistent enough to make a run. mrmpls and David HK 2

I have to admit, I don't want ownership making decisions on personnel unless it is budget related. They typically have no baseball knowledge or how to evaluate players. I don't necessarily agree with what the Astros owner did. If he doesn't trust his baseball staff then he should probably bring in new people which is what I hope Tom P. does.

Shelton seemed to have handled it privately with Larnach, which is about all you can hope for.
Saxophone Joe Verified Member Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Also, gotta say, the top photo of Lewis' failed bunt is *chef's kiss*. Royce, what are we doing, man?
Hpyeet Verified Member Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Take Buxton out now!!! He's still hurt. He's disengaged. They play better without him. Sorry to say it, but right now he's bad for chemistry. Larnach is trending in that direction too. For goodness sake bring Jenkins up!
David HK Verified Member Posted 53 minutes ago Posted 53 minutes ago Yet another pathetic effort, wasting a heroic one. So many chances to add on, and everybody knew we were gonna need it. Cripe, Morris doing his best Eric Orze-Justin Topa impersonation, and insult to injury, key hit by Ty France, of all people, who truly sucked during his time in the TC. P-p-p-playoffs? Cue Jim Mora. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NK3Jx2yvtVE

So he’s on third with 2 outs if you throw to first. So what? He can’t score on a sacrifice fly. Yes he can score on a wild pitch/PB but I’ll take that chance. You take the out at first in that situation 10/10 times especially with the difficulty of the play at third. Not that it mattered but that’s how I saw it A winning shortstop makes that throw to third base every time, no question. Culpepper fielded the ball and calmly made a perfect throw to nail the runner at third base by several feet. Stuff happens. In this case Brooks Lee did not catch the ball. On a throw to first base, the first baseman can simply not catch the ball too. It happens. Rare, but it happens. A team lost the other night on a dropped fly ball which would have been the final out of the game. Why throw to third base? You make the play when it is an out that under normal circumstances creates the out. That instance was as normal as that play gets. The out at third base means a slow runner (Machado) can only score from first base on a triple or home run. It is pretty basic baseball. If there was any doubt whatsoever, the throw goes to first base. In this case, there was no doubt. Culpepper should be lauded for making the play so smoothly. I can guarantee the clubhouse/ coaching staff sees it that way. The comments on Andrew Morris must be from those reading about the game and not from anyone who watched the game. Morris ran into some bad luck with mistakes by Jeffers and Lee. The Padres also had some good luck on two balls hit just fair on late swings. The Padres play excellent defense all the time and the Twins are still looking for defenders at several positions. If fans expect three strike outs per game from the one inning relievers, they are in for disappointment. Maybe the Twins can trade for Mason Miller. In the meantime, Morris is a good pitcher. Did you see his sprint around the bases the other night, didn't look disengaged to me. Yes he has to start hitting but we are a better team with him.
