At this point, I don't see why not give him a chance. I know the team is still attempting to stay in the wild card running, but adding some variety into the mix could end up being a spark the team is missing to get there. And I wouldn't be too worried about defense considering the twins have already demonstrated they can somehow turn guys into solid defensive first basemen.

I usually tried to look on the bright side of Twins drafts, but I have to admit, Sabato as a first round pick left me gasting my flabber. A big, slow first baseman? Were there zero pitching prospects better than that? Not even a shortstop? I assumed he would wash out in a year, but he hung on. Then I assumed he'd wash out the next year. He still hung on, not by that much, but he didn't quit. 

Okay, now he's 27 years old, in AAA St Paul. He's still a big, slow 1st baseman, and still not a great hitter, but he's a good one, at least against lefties. You know what? Call him up. The man refuses to quit. Maybe some of that will rub off on this Twins club. Remember Luis Astudillo? Sometimes, the odd shaped players do interesting things. Cuppa coffee for Aaron Sabato. Why the hell not.

Sabato is in a tough spot. Josh Bell is the DH and there is a line of guys ideally suited to fill the DH position behind Bell. The Twins are using Royce Lewis at first base most of the time and Lewis is having a nice run since his return from St. Paul. There just isn't a place for him. Could he be called up as the 14th bat in September? Seems unlikely, which means that Sabato, like Wallner, will need to find an opportunity elsewhere next season. I wish them all the best.

He'll get his chance when they're (likely) out of contention in September and they cut a few pending free agent vets to make room on the 40. He'll get his cup of coffee, then sign somewhere else for 1-2 more years of AAAA purgatory.

I would imagine he will have an amazing season in the kbo and then want to come back whenever the new cba is sorted out

Sabato = wasted pick...sorry, just not good enough to make it in MLB.  Sure, go ahead and give him a try, but, its like betting on Gray to blossom into a Hrbek.

Okay, so do you option Royce Lewis or DFA and release Josh Bell to "give him a chance"?

Yes, I believe he missed the boat by a year. If he was performing like this last year maybe he gets a shot in August/September. This year…. I doubt it unless everyone gets injured.

Was puzzled when they drafted him. I’m even more puzzled why anyone thinks he should be in the Majors above  Bell, Lewis or anyone else really. This guy will get cooked in the MLB. Case study #1: Matt Wallner.

Give him a shot this September. He was so firmly in the bust category for so long, but he persevered, put in the time and work, and dammit, he deserves a little reward.

The OPS against lefties alone is reason enough. Maybe don't even wait until September.
