Oh yeah, I get it now.  The Twins have a history of developing hitters at the MLB level like Julien, and Lewis in the past 2 years and before that Sano.

Yawn! Another non move to put the few remaining fans asleep. This guy has a long enough history to know he can’t hit big league pitching and has no power. So the appeal must be that he can play a lot of positions well enough to function defensively, but those guys are all over the minor leagues.

Twins are leaning in big on players with positive SSS to end the season last year.   .268/.362/3.17   (95 OPS +, .5 War).   I am not expecting a lot.  You are taking a stab that he is starting to handle MLB pitching better and can be a usable utility player with some positive WAR, taking up the Willi Castro mantle.

  Lets be clear most of these borderline players are not going to amount to anything.  I think 1-2 could be solid pieces or more.  Prior to the end of the season I wasn't expecting much from Martin.   He now seems to have carved out a role.

Gasper clearly has a very low ceiling, but as utility depth, we could do worse I think. I don't want to have to see him in the majors at any point but the option to have a back up that can play (albeit poorly) multiple positions including catcher is something this team will need I think as there doesn't seem to be much for additions coming. 

Really, I'll mostly miss having a Super Mario doppelganger on the team.

I don't have the info in front of me, but it looking at his stats page, it appears he has a problem with velocity.  It probably doesn't help that he plays all winter every year.  I've seen him fade, and this makes sense, given his winter league ABs.

As far as this move goes, who cares?  The only way it could be negative is if they were intent on playing him no matter what.  They can drop him as easily as they dropped Gasper.

Mgmt “building around the core” on full display with these moves to date. This is another example of why Ryan and Jeffers wouldn’t sign a long term deal with Twins if offered. Championship contending team vision doesn’t exist.
