Agreed - and he turned 20 in February. Seems that his development through ‘25 and then 1/2 of ‘26 would be a nice evolution. There are no guarantees, but having a guy ranked in Top 20 - Top 10 - Top 5 that has a chance of being in big leagues midway through his age 21 season is a good problem to have.

The greatest Twins hitter of all time was not a home run hitter but hit .388 with 38 doubles 14 triples 14 hr and 100 rbi in 1977 and won the map on a 4th place of 7 team and also hit .350, .359, .364 in the mid 70s to go with the .388. That is far more valuable than exit velocity, he needs to develop power and all this nonsense attached to prospects. Lyman Bostock, a top 5 hitter in Twins history was also the same way. His 1977 was 36 doubles 12 triples 14 hr and 90 rbi. Lord, I wish we had hitters like that now!!! May Walker Jenkins please be like Lyman Bostock and NOT Max Kepler!!!!

Swing wise Walker Jenkins looks like a shorter Joe Mauer.  Hopefully that translate to the majors.

So home run hitting is more important now (I say it isn’t) because you could smoke cigarettes on the field? Same game. Twins need to, and, to Rocco’s credit, are changing their approach. A team needs about 3 power hitters, ideally, then higher average, higher on base guys, perhaps with moderate power sprinkled in to the other 6 slots. Stolen base ability a bonus. Twins got run of the field in the late innings last year by teams like Tampa Bay, Royals, Guardians.

The only way he doesn’t develop power with that body (at age 20)…is if he deliberately adopts an approach that rejects power…highly unlikely given modern player development.

He’ll have power. The question is, how much of the bat-to-ball skill will be sacrificed to find the power? Some of his high-end peers are already flashing more power…while maintaining ‘good’ hit tool results. That’s where Fangraphs is coming from.

He just turned 20. There’s no knowing at this point. Only guessing….oops! sorry…projecting.

Ironically, that’s what the Fangraphs projection is worried about. The algorithms are not going to project 330 BA or 415 OBP for anyone in the modern game. So if you knock that down to 290 and 360-370 and attach a Joe Mauer ISO/SLG, you have something from good to very good…you don’t have great. You attach a Vladdy Guerrero Jr. ISO/SLG, and you have perennial MVP candidate.

All pleasant outcomes…but it explains the modestly lower ranking.
