Patzky Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 I'd PH Lewis here if we weren't shorthanded.

It would dramatically reduce hbp in games. Right now, it is advantage pitcher if he knocks out a star player. I don't hate that idea. It's probably a better deterrent than the tit for tat method. The penalty isn't that pitcher having to hit and get hit, its multiple outs inserted into your lineup. Might be 5 at bats in this game and the clean up hitter gone. It doesn't happen all that often but that severe of a penalty changes approach drastically. Randy Griffith 1

Probably not, lucky 72 mph exit velo off the hands is confirmation of the "spreadsheet". Those that use "spreadsheets" don't use results as an indicator of success of the process. Patzky 1

Twinsfreak23 Verified Member Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 It's funny. People keep harping about the spread sheets. Data doesn't lie. Even good major-league left-handed hitters tend to struggle against left-handed pitchers. Sure, there are some that can handle left-handed pitchers OK, but the chances are, a right-handed hitter is generally going to be better against that left-handed pitcher. Data is there to be used. Sometimes yes, you should believe what your eyes tell you for the particular instance or game, but to suggest you should just ignore the spreadsheets and manage entirely on gut is also asinine. Linus Verified Member Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 Missed the beginning. Miranda hit in the head? Did it look like he’s hurt or precautionary?

Patzky Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 Garret Crochet is getting rocked today. Mariners stole a base on a walk. Hmm..

I missed it too, but the video clip on mlb.com Gameday shows him heading to the dugout under his own power. That does not rule out several other bad outcomes. Patzky 1
