It happens a lot with NYY, Lucky we have instant review to overturn incorrect calls otherwise that great Lewis/ Miranda play would been safe. The sooner we have an electronic balls/ strikes system the better.

Here is where I jump ship.  I like the controversy.  Balls and strikes calls give us something to argue about.  I don’t want the game sterilized too much.

Sonny Gray is also making $60M guaranteed over the next 2 years and has an option for 2027 that will cost $5M to decline, so while they might have been able to structure a deal that would have kept the 2024 number around $10M, let's not pretend for a minute that Sonny Gray only costs $10M.

Also, let's not pretend that Sonny Gray would have turned down the Cardinals, an organization he is in love with, to return to the Twins for the same money. He took a discount to be a Cardinal.

That's the thing nobody can argue balls & strikes. Then throw out the review replay have strictly the human error. If you consent to that then you should have nothing to complain about, Angel Hernandez should not be demonized because that's just part of the game. Fairness should be held to the highest level. That doesn't sterilize the game, IMO overanalyzing does. Treating players only as stats & numbers.

Rocco will need some brand new dance steps to convince any longtime Twins fan that they have any chance at all of winning any games against the Yanks right now. And Twins are by no means the only whipping boys..Yanks are destroying everything in their path. While we sing the praises of their hitters, take a look at that pitching staff pretty much leading the world in everything too.

On the homefront side though, Twins have not been at all competitive against the 3 top teams in the AL. Some here feel Cleveland will be unable to keep this up but I think they can and they will. Twins real post season hope is to catch KC for 2nd and cop a WC. But what we  have seen so far this season is men against boys when it comes to playing the really good teams.

Gotta say, so far it has been amazing that Buxton has been able to play CF as long as he has. The bad news though is that he is having a pretty poor season offensively. I wonder if we will ever again see the Buck we all had hoped for.

Here's my 2 cents.

I have a certain amount of confidence in the Twins.

The Yanks are a juggernaut (  right now, anyway), but I don't expect the Twins to be swept.

Should that happen, it's not the end of the world.

An infusion of Royce is going to energize the team.

Note to the above poster. The Twins don't necessarily have to catch the Royals for a wild card spot. (see standings)

"We just have to do a better job at-bat wise than what we did today." #MNTwins manager Rocco Baldelli after the 5-1 loss to the Yankees

36 innings and 2 runs against the Yanks in 2024.

Brilliant take by Rocco. Seriously, he never has anything to say that anyone following the Twins doesn't already know.

It’s looking like Twins have a mental problem facing the Yankees. They lose confidence and look defeated from the start. As soon as NYY score a run, it’s all over. Lewis on the other hand looks like he is enjoying playing in Yankee stadium with a larger audience (on TBS last night). He thinks he’s better than any pitcher from any team in any stadium. What a difference in his AB’s vs. the rest of the lineup against the same pitcher. Castro was the only other guy to even draw a walk.
They’ve been owned by Cleveland, Baltimore, and NYY. Maybe they should stand pat at the deadline because they don’t look like they have a chance in the playoffs.

Cave was a perfectly serviceable 4th OF his first 2 seasons in MN. Then he fell apart.

...

but I love Royce Lewis.

Technically, I didn't say I'm not sympathetic. I only said the audience would be less sympathetic.

Man, I love Royce Lewis.

In the case of Vazquez the Twins have Jair Camargo, who just came back after injury, and a whole lot of other catchers who hit and field worse than Vazquez. Camargo is likely to have an OPS around 600 with defense worse than Vazquez. At best he's a push.

We know Vasquez's ceiling but not Camargo's.

If Falvey had to, packaged prospects to dump his salary, but I don't think it would have taken much. Vazquez is worthless at this point, but before the season, the Twins could have picked up Joey Bart from San Francisco as an adequate backup, sent Vazquez and a 15-20 grade prospect. Obviously, that trade would look especially good in hindsight, but there were other options of a similar nature.

Hmmm, have bad catcher as back-up for a not good catcher, brilliant.

Vazquez is a horrible, terrible, awful catcher because he's the worst player in MLB at 70% of his job. FWIW, as I said, there were other deals available. Vazquez is a boat anchor on the Twins' win column.

You left out some pertinent adjectival phrases.

Twins for these three pitchers, but to point out the FACT that they haven't developed a pitcher similar to Gil, since Berrios?

IMO, they do not know how to develop.  Seems they leave or roller coaster all of our upcoming talent in AAA.  Many get to MLB and start having issues.  I wish they would play our future and stop dinking around with the hope and pray veterans.

No doubt. The point is Twins should measure themselves against “very good” teams. There should be no illusions by the FO that they’re one trade away from being serious contenders. I’m hoping this reality sinks in for FO so they don’t mortgage the future on a win now deal like Lopez and Mahle trades.

This is most minor leaguers in every organization. Most minor leaguers don't make it.

He is still better than Jeffers.
