Wolfson: Twins interested in Grady Sizemore

1500ESPN.com's Darren Wolfson reports in his latest Scoops column that outfielder Grady Sizemore, who has begun baseball activities recently after several knee surgeries, will be on the Minnesota Twins' radar once Sizemore is ready to sign.

 

While he has not played in the majors since 2011 and has had seven surgical procedures since 2009, Sizemore is just 30 years old. From 2005 to 2009, Sizemore hit .276/.368/.488 with 125 home runs and swiped 128 bases in 167 chances.

Won't happen if he doesn't see the field. If he does..I'm betting they'll know pretty quickly if he can still be a major leaguer.

Think this would be a great try. Low risk very high reward if Sizemore can come back. Would allow Hicks to go back to AAA, or Twins to move Willingham or Morneau, and gain defense and not lose much at the plate(mainly power).

Sizemore used to be one of my favorite non-Twins. I hope it works out between the Twins and him. If a potential move can get Clete and Wilkin off the roster, it's worth a shot.

Fine with me, unless they decide to do something dumb like send Hicks down. .356 OPS in April vs .707 OPS in May. He is figuring it out. He needs to stay up and keep tasting success. If Sizemore or anyone else for that matter started to look like a viable option what does that do for us other than put unneeded pressure on Hicks? Mastro, Sizemore, Thomas, Richardson, etc. None of these guys figure into the future. Better to let Hicks keep working through it. Shoot at the rate he his going I think he turns into a viable ROY candidate.

Nope. Signing him would get rid of the likes of Clete Thomas, Antoan Richardson, Chris Pettit and Jordan Parraz.

I still think that Hicks has a good chance to be a nice player but come on with "at this rate". He's been a horrible major league player and a .707 ops as a + for him illustrates how bad he's been. He needs time in AAA

Signing Sizemore replaces Thomas or Ramirez. It won't be blocking anyone as I suspect Morales is going to AA and Buxton is likely getting promoted shortly as well.

 

As for Hicks. A .700 OPS out of a CF isn't terrible. I think it's pretty close to average, and it's certainly acceptable when you get GG defense from it as well. Given that he's been taking some pretty nice strides forward, I'd say they have to keep up with the experiment. If he stalls, then yes, let him finish the year in Rochester.. especially if Sizemore is getting the job done.

If he signs a contract that includes next year as well he could be insurance in case Morneau leaves in that Parmelee moves to 1B Willingham, Arcia, and Hicks in the OF with Sizemore allowing players to rotate to DH/ in case of ineffectiveness/ in case of injury.

I think it makes sense, especially if he's willing to sign a minor league deal and spen some time at Rochester knocking the rust off
