There's talk of the Brewers threatening to leave Milwaukee as well. Can't imagine either of those teams uprooting, though. I think it's the Rays figuring their stuff out and then 2 expansion teams. Teams just like to threaten the government to get more money.

Baltimore as well is using Nashville as a negotiating ploy. Similarly to the NFL using Los Angeles as an empty threat for years. Except in the case of MLB, I’m not sure the threat of moving to Nashville is as powerful as the Vikings threatening to move to LA.

Yeah, I can't really see the Sox leaving Chicago, or the Brewers leaving Milwaukee. Something has to get resolved down in TB. Maybe they move to Nashville?

I can’t see the team moving, but who knows. I mean, Nashville White Sox seems blasphemous somehow. I’m certainly going to ask my Sox friends what they think.

I think there will be two expansion teams coming into existence 5-10 years from now. The likeliest places IMHO are Tennessee, North Carolina, Texas, and Montreal. There’s a group in Utah trying to get traction but I don’t think there’s enough people or money there. I certainly could understand the Rays going to one of those places but I have trouble believing that any other established team would look at any of these locations as a worthwhile upgrade.

I don’t disagree but that didn’t stop us from seeing the LA Lakers or the Utah Jazz. Those names are far more incongruous. Of course a team that moves can change its name completely. 😉

Edit: not sure why the quote didn’t come through.

By the time Nashville makes more economic sense than Chicago, the old Nashville team will have moved to Oakland. This is empty posturing for more stadium subsidies. Any time Jerry Reinsdorf gets the vapors you know it's money related.

Remember, all those Camden Yards clones are coming up on 30 years old and are completely used up, decrepit, unsuitable for anything more than high school softball really. We should probably get started on our Target Field replacement plans if you want my honest opinion. I'm not even sure the Twins should step foot in that deathtrap. Can we see about playing our road games at Joliet Catholic until the White Sox can come up with a better home option? Mercy.

Well the A's got their deal. If it wasn't the White Sox, it would be another team. MLB is always going to want multiple teams demanding free money. If all 30 teams were ever 'satisfied' with their situation, the momentum to bilk the taxpayers would be hard to build back up.

I agree about 2 expansion teams coming soon. It’s overdue for baseball to expand, and 32 teams is the ideal number for sports leagues. I think Nashville will be one of the expansion teams after a couple more years of current teams using them as a negotiation ploy. The 2nd team I think they’ll try to be west of the Mississippi River to maintain balance. Austin or San Antonio makes sense. I’d love to see my created team on Out of the Park Baseball come to life… The Omaha Steer!

The A's deal isn't final at all.

As for the OP, posturing. I could see Baltimore moving, because their other is a true loser and Tennessee will roll over and hand him money and land

I’d guess expansion hasn’t happened because taking these other cities off the table will hurt the league’s efforts to profit off of relocation threats to existing cities.

I kind of think this new White Sox threat indicates they’re not ready to set up new markets at the expense of pillaging their current markets.
