I'd love for Maeda to be in teh bullpen......and just give him his #$^#@ money.

I still Maeda can be a valuable starting pitcher for us this year. If he's healthy, send him out there!

If he can do better than any of the other 5 starters I agree. But I don't think he can. In the bullpen all he has to do is be better than one of our current relievers. I say bullpen.

Good point. Varland and Ober are both looking good since they were brought back up. If they can sustain that effectiveness Maeda might end up in the bullpen, which may not be a bad option.

I agree with this. Put Maeda in the pen but calculate how many innings he might pitch as a starter from that point and pay him to his contract at that level. Everybody wins.

(Not my money, lol.}

We can add Trevor Larnach as a rehabbing major leaguer playing for the Saints and most likely subtract Thielbar, who flew back to Minneapolis and may be activated before the Twins leave town.

Maeda  for a Major League starter is only making 3 million a year,  alot of  Bullpen guys make alot more than him

Yup, even with his bonuses per start, he’s not making alot, 10 mil or something like that. I like the idea to pay him his start bonus anyways. He’ll come well short of that 10m

This is as good a spot to post this, although Paddock isn't on a rehab assignment ... but will we see him this year?

Speaking of rehabs, Jacob DeGrom is going to need one for the Rangers as he is having Tommy John surgery. How do teams like the Twins ever afford contracts like that for a pitcher? Probably just wise not to do them if you can't afford to just eat that contract for a couple of years. Glad the Twins didn't go get DeGrom.

A la Maeda a year ago, I'm guessing the Twins presence (or lack thereof) in the pennant race will be a key determinant (along with his actual progress, of course).

I concur.  You beat me to the punch

Celestino has played in two games for the Mighty Mussels, getting two hits in five at bats, with a double and two strikeouts.

I was just going to ask about  his status. Thanks for that update!

Not a major leaguer, but prospect Austin Martin is on rehab assignment at For Myers.

He had one at-bat Thursday and then injured while making a diving catch. No further word as to the seriousness of the injury, but he wasn't in the lineup last night.

Celestino’s rehab time will be over tomorrow. He’ll need to be activated from the 60-day IL and most likely optioned to St. Paul. A 40-man spot will need to be made. My guess is Alcalá to the 60-day IL. Maeda has until about the 29th before his rehab is exhausted.

My guess was correct. Celestino activated and optioned to the Saints and Alcala transferred to the 60-day IL.

I didn't know where to post this question, so this thread is the winner. What is the latest on Chris Paddack? I had assumed that he might start pitching again about now (August) at least some sort of rehab assignment. Has anyone heard any updates about his status? It's looking like he might not pitch at all this year.
