I doubt I'm in the majority but the guy in the 1st picture may be the most important add of the off season. Pushed into a full time roll 92 OPS+ (per baseball reference) that's with who we expected to play CF hitting OPS+ of 127 per Baseball references.  What's between the field and the AB. +120? Seems like the OF defense is worth an investment.  My point is Taylor has been good to VERY good and short term and long term (3-4 seasons) that may be a wise investment.

I agree with your first sentence.  After that, I could not make any sense out of the rest.

Man Farmer has some guts.  I just don't think I would be the same hitter after taking a pitch to the face.  He just seems fearless in the box coming back.  If I were him I would have taken more time but he is proving he is ready to go.  He certainly has my admiration.  I have liked everything about this guy.

Don't want to be "that guy", but PTSD is something that could develop. It happened to more than one player in the past. They get beaned and seem to be OK. As time goes on the pitchers use more brush backs with high and tight near-misses. They stand further from the plate, and a few years later they're a shadow of the hitter they once were. (see Jimmy Hall)

Not a given. Everybody handles stuff differently.  Also, I gather that the umpires police the throwing at hitters a bit closer now than in the past. Maybe a good thing because the pitcher never has to face retaliation, so the umps have to control it.

Yeah, I got a bit long winded and spit out a bunch of Baseball Refence stuff to justify it. All I really needed to say is Taylor sure has been good. I wonder if the FO would try to keep him around longer then is season.

The end of the game was special in several ways. Jorge López locking it down. And beloved old friend Nelson Cruz stepping out of the dugout into the on-deck circle got the crowd‘s attention. Then a very warm ovation when he took his stance in the box. Best of all, López struck him out swinging to bring this comeback win to a satisfying conclusion.

Thanks Sherry for the great recap. I know it's only May, but these past two games have really lifted everyone's spirits out here. Especially considering that was a pretty good team we took 2 of 3 from. So happy to see contributions from Farmer and AK.

Now let's take care of business against the Cubs. Their SP has been pretty good this year, so I'm expecting some late game heroics might be needed to get us over the top.

This was an important win for the Twins.  They played a complete game and got some key hits. It appears our pitching is above average and we just need to hit better.  It seems the hitters did not swing at as many bad pitches as they have done in past games. I think that is the key for the Twins batters. Hitters have to know a walk is better than a hit. With the low batting average the Twins have they get on base about 2 of 10 at bats, but a walk is 100% on base average. More walks and fewer strikeouts will make the Twins a winning team.

We could use a break-out game. A double digit offensive explosion. It would do us all good. Take some pressure off of our starting pitchers too.

Nice write up, Sherry! We were at the game today, and leaving the bases loaded again was so frustrating! But it was fun to see Kiriloff looking so healthy, the defense sparkled, bailing out Ober more than once (lol) and ultimately the bats came through.

I’d never seen the Padres in person before, and that murderer’s row of Tatis and Soto and Machado and Bogaert was quite impressive.

We sat in section 108 this time with our flex 20 plan.

Those are some AMAZING seats!!!!! I was happy to take the series win. I just hope that the Cubs give us a shot!

I don't think I have ever seen a waiver wire, journeyman pitcher, move up the bullpen leverage ladder as fast as Brock Stewart has. It's kind of bizzarre.

Would you be shocked if I told you I think Headricks will be next?? He's been up once already, and back at STP doing well....I dunno. Our pitching is so wonky this year, but at least we have some. It is really bizzare!

After covering the minor league games I could not agree more. I really get antsy if nothing HUGE happens. Aside from the Kernels game tonight, the Surge and Mussels had 12 runs respectively and it was SO awesome to see. AND both had break out innings, which was fun!

I could not agree more with this. I really want to keep capitalizing where we can against national teams. I think it will help me feel better about moving towards the post season.

I think with Smyly :) out of the way, the other two games will be good. That being said, the Cubs aren't doing that great, but if they can get runs, they will. So We need our pitching to be better than theirs and we have a shot!

This is such a great post - from both of you. I agree fully. I saw the grazing of the shirt last night and I held my breath for him. I am not saying that he won't develop that fear over time (like you said) but I can only hope that his resliency helps him. I felt so bad that it happened so soon, but I also loved the reactionary home run and how good that had to feel for him. I wanted to deep dive into it in the article, it just wasn't the place. He is an OUTSTANDING human and I was glad to cover his comeback homer.
