  1. 1. What grade would you give the Christian Vasquez signing?

Yesterday, the Twins and veteran catcher Christian Vasquez agreed to a 3-year contract. Vasquez will be guaranteed $30M over the course of the contract, pending a physical. The Twins will look to Vasquez for consistency in offensive production and plus defense behind the plate (both of which have plagued the team the past two years)

I think it was a solid signing and am happy about it. However, he wasn't the best catcher out there, so it dropped my grade down a bit. Still ... I think it was a good, solid signing

“A” from me.  He’s the best catcher we realistically could’ve signed and trading for Murphy was too expensive. And we filled a huge (and vital) position of need.

Sign CC now and a couple of relievers, and I’d say along with Vasquez and Farmer (which was a really canny swap for Urshela), I’d say this off-season will have shaped up rather nicely other than one  innings eating #2 or 3 starter.

I can't give this signing an A based on how badly the Brewers hoodwinked the A's and Braves just a couple of hours before the Twins signed Vazquez.

If you want an A+ move, look no further than the Brewers getting William Contreras for Esteury Ruiz.

That's some bad grading on a curve. If I can't get an A because someone else got every question right plus somehow graded all the papers so the teacher could relax, that's not a realistic bar.

I mean, not really. An A signing/trade is an exemplary move. Is getting Christian Vazquez on a three year deal an exemplary move? Whereas the Brewers move was extraordinarily good.

That's an understatement. It's mind boggling what the Brewers did. But fine, if that's your bar for an A, I'm glad you weren't a teacher of mine. I'm not arguing what the Twins did was an A or not......

That's not my bar for an A trade/signing but that's absolutely an A+ trade. It's an example of something that is clearly a top-shelf move whereas Vazquez is more "well, that's nice, fills a hole for a few years, now what's next?"
