Mill1634 Verified Member Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 We let Sands face the dude who's pissed off at Sands for some reason. This game went from winnable to "let's try to cover the rest of this game using only 2 relievers."
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 Stealing 3rd w 2 outs.... That tells you a lot.
Mortimerkenny21 Verified Member Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 Blame the last 2 runs on Rocco.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 Really weird that Sands gets to go over 100 pitches and a 3rd time through the lineup when other starters haven't been allowed to...
notoriousgod71 Verified Member Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 We let sands roast for 100 pitches but can't let Ryan, Gray, or smeltzer hit 80 when they're sailing along.
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 Rocco really has zero clue when to pull some of these guys. Most day's he's aggressive with these AAAA types (which is preferable, imo), but then every so often he does stuff like trying to squeeze another out out of Cole Sands for some reason. Just baffling.
TwerkTwonkTwins Verified Member Posted June 12, 2022 Author Posted June 12, 2022 I think this game is out of reach, with the current state of the bullpen. I'd imagine we'd see Duffey after Thornburg. The Twins offense has been able to bail out a few bad starts in the last week, but appears lifeless today.

Because he was upset about getting buzzed and then hit twice? He's one of the more exciting young player's in the game and his performance in the playoffs was incredible.
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 Glad we saved two outs for the bullpen but gave any chance of winning away in the process.

Winston Smith Verified Member Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 They used to say it's better to take a pitcher out a batter early rather than a batter late. Clear Rocco has never heard that one.

Clear Rocco has never heard that one. The thing is, though, he clearly HAS heard that one. He does it all the time. It's one of the things I think he generally gets right. Except...every once in a while he pulls a today. I'm sure he was trying to save the burned pen, but still.

Once you're down a couple of runs, it's no longer a high-leverage situation, and your goal is to just limp through. Or, so I've read.
