The leaked draft of Alito's won't be the final version - I suspect some of the language will have to be softened, especially relating to other fundamental rights, but the Supreme Court seems ready to overturn Roe v. Wade. Bad decision for a number of reasons but the "logic", as currently written, would doom contraceptives, same-sex marriage, and even interracial marriage.

You were right Mike.  But one can be correct in their assessment and still present that correct assessment in a bonkers way.

I'm not sure what to make of what was leaked.  I think it's only the beginning of a very conflicted issue that won't be settled for quite some time.

We really need this to happen before the election, and for the GOP to ban same sex marriage also.... Because fear is the only time a sitting party has won.

I also predicted January 6.....

I don't think it will move the needle right now.  Personally, I see it as a 2024 campaign issue.  They'll try this year and it may move a few races, but ultimately I'm not sure it has an impact until the GOP takes it too far.

Some good news for Dems. GOP lost a MI state seat in a district that went for Trump +16. Woman's rights and Ukraine were big parts of the race, the GOP nominee was horrific. Said that if his girls were being raped, he'd tell them to sit back and enjoy it. Election was day after the Dobbs leak.

Good lord, they haven't already?!?!? That rape apologist says he has three daughters.

If this goes through and the SCOTUS does overturn Roe v Wade, expect states (like Texas) to take up other matters with the court hoping for more reversals. Texas' governor has already made statements hinting at same-sex marriage and public education.

Ha!  Far enough for my liking, but far enough to move the electorate into a frenzy?  I'm not sure we're there yet unfortunately.

For decades it was a liberal court, now it is a conservative court, what goes around , comes around.

Do you ever post anything that is accurate?  Could you at least try not to post something that is laughably false or stupid?

It’s official. Women have been deemed second class citizens. What’s next … overturn gay marriage? Texas has been ready with that for when Roe v Wade was overturned. Texas also wants to limit access public education. And now that the courts control women’s health care, maybe next we turn back the clock a little further and don’t allow them financial freedom, either, by not allowing them to have credit cards, bank accounts, obtain loans without a male co-signer .., how far will we go back to repress and oppress?

Thomas' concurrence specifically targets three cases that permitted gay sex, same-sex marriage, and right to contraceptives. He didn't mention interracial marriage (Loving v. Virginia) but he is married to a white woman so maybe sees the need for that right.

I think same-sex marriage is the obvious next target and some state legislatures have already talked about rolling that back. It won 5-4 with Kennedy on the Court, now that both he and Ginsburg are gone, the math is bad. I imagine in the next 30-60 days, we will see where the targets are.

On abortion, we're going to see a flurry of cases as states pass all-out bans, which will be challenged. Even Rehnquist, of all people, didn't think a complete ban on abortion would be possible without a carve out for health of the mother but some of these laws don't have that. So we will see abortion challenges under both state and federal laws. States will presumably begin to pass restrictions on women - can't leave Texas to get an abortion in another state, for example - that will invariably end up before the Supreme Court as well.

As a gentle reminder, I've worked in non-profit law for over twenty years. Most of the heavy lifting on abortion, same-sex rights, immigrant rights, etc are being done by legal nonprofits such as the ACLU, planned parenthood, etc. I know many of the people working in these orgs and they are dedicated to these issues and are ****ing dying right now. Support those groups, donate money, call your congressmen - both state and federal.

The site is actually planning to run a site-wide message in support of a pro-choice organization. I was going to link to PP but if you have someone you recommend over them, please share.

I'd go ACLU-MN over PP.

I give money to both, but why one over the other? Just asking.

I know more people who work at the ACLU on a personal level, and I know how dedicated and smart they are. So that's one thing. Second, PP works on one major issue but ACLU works on the same issue plus immigrant rights, voting rights, policing issues, etc. More bang for your buck. But it's a bit of dealer's choice. Both are great orgs and I'm proud of both.

If that isn't tyranny, I don't know what is.

A 10-yr old girl in Ohio was raped, which resulted in a pregnancy. At 6 weeks, she cannot get an abortion in Ohio ... rape is not an exception, even if the victim is 10 yrs old ... this is God's will? Really? I don't understand this.

She was working with a doctor in Ohio who specializes in abused children who connected her with a colleague in another state where she will get the health care she needs. I don't know if any states have laws (yet, I know some are pending) to gag doctors from giving out any kind of help or information for patients to seek help out of state.

The anti-abortion movement is NOT about pro-life.
