SP aren't really conditioned to pitch on consecutive days, even if they didn't throw many innings. Not about the innings as much as the schedule.

It would actually be more plausible to see a different SP make a brief appearance if it was their "throw day" between starts, although with an 18 man staff and the brevity of such an outing, plus an off day on Monday, the benefits are probably minimal. Maybe if game two goes into extra innings...

We do not have an off day on Monday.

His career FIP in the American League is a very unimpressive 4.27. Why it is so much worse in the AL than NL is uncertain, but it is.

AL generally has much stronger hitting lineups than NL teams. I don't think NL relievers are typically facing pitchers in the batter's box, but they are facing pinch-hitters (who are generally not good enough hitters to be starters).

Smeltzer against - Lindor - 3 HOME RUNS IN 6 A.B.=  Ouch   Santana and Puig are not good matchups also,  Hope Smeltzer can manage it early, He has to get his off speed over early, They r gonna be sitting on that 89 mph fastball otherwise,

Yikes. Maybe not the best guy to start? Opener of Romero or Graterol would probably make more sense. I don't have a great feeling about the first couple innings from Smeltzer today.

I started to read the intro without seeing who posted it. I got to “nurse three fingers” before concluding it was Dave. Well done, sir.

I feel as though the Twins should have noted that there was a chance the game wouldn’t get completed last night, and held Odorizzi for today. That way you guarantee to get his start.

Anyway, adversity! Let’s see what the boys have got in terms of resilience.

You recognized Nurse Three Fingers? We must attend the same proctology clinic!

Swing and miss. Repeat.

C'mon offense, let's go! Let's sweep this day-nighter!  A 1-2-3 first from Smelzer would be just so huge for the confidence of this team.

Leadoff double wasted.

I know people hate bunting these days - and I totally understand not wanting to take the bat out of Polanco's hand there. But whatever happened to just hitting a ground-ball to 2nd base? Followed by a sac fly?

This team refuses to even try to manufacture runs, even when struggling.

Okay Smelzer, let's do this buddy!

this is why the Twins may not get to post season. Our 3 best hitters all strike out with a runner at 2nd. Far too many k's lately as Twins just can't get runners home without a HR anymore. Two k's on 3-2 pitches...all 3 hitters didn't come close to contact. If this doesn't change, and fast, we are dead in the water. Very frustrating watching this going on.

The problem with giving an out away, even with a weak hitter, is what happened after the double. Strikeouts don't advance runners and two strikeouts after a suggested bunt wouldn't score a run.

Nice inning for Smeltzer!

Bogie and the Dingus.png

I was holding down a barstool in a cheap dive just down the street from what used to be Jacobs Stadium, trying to nurse three fingers of the worst tasting whiskey I’d ever had the misfortune to order when she walked in. She had legs halfway up to her neck, auburn hair pulled back in one of those French braids that made her look… French and a figure you won’t find in any accountant’s office.

“What’s a dame like you doing in a gin joint like this?” I asked her in my best Bogie impression.

She coolly looked me over before claiming a seat three stools away.

“I’m looking for a Tom Collins,” she replied, distantly.

“Haven’t seen him,” I informed her.

“I’m looking for “a” Tom Collins,” she corrected me. “Not “thee” Tom Collins. This is a gin joint, right?”

I gestured at the bartender. “Fix the lady up,” I told him, pulling a double sawbuck out of my billfold and laying it on the bar. The three of us waited until the newly released moths flew away.

She said her name was Adventure… Miss Adventure.

“So what brings you here?” she asked me while the bartender went to work.

“I’m looking for a dingus,” I told her.

She batted her eyelashes like a slot machine and gave me a hard… stare, with eyes the color of smoked salmon. “Is this a gay bar?” she fished.]

Fantastic work! I love the Maltese Falcon! Chuck Jones would definitely approve!

I agree with not giving up the AB, but I do think it would be nice to see hitters choke up and look for contact on a 2-strike count at times rather than taking the big long swing.  That is probably just old school thinking at this point though.

good inning for Smeltzer. He will need a bunch of those because Cleavenger is going to be hard to score on, even when our hitters aren't slumping.

Dyson-Davis trade. Good thing for Twins that Davis has not hit at all after being called up to SF, because Dyson came here as damaged goods and has been useless to us.
