Good morning Twins fans and welcome back to another exciting game thread extravaganza! After last night's big win our magic number now stands at 14! If we can manage to beat up Clevinger and the Indians today our magic number would reach 12.  Despite the nice win yesterday we still faced some unfortunate news regarding one of our better pitchers. Big Mike Pineda will be going away for awhile...a 60 game suspension is not something I really wanted to see at the moment but I think this team will prevail.  If you're nervous and frustrated I posted a few soothing links that will put your mind at ease.

Let's start with some light happy music.  The Twins are in first place! If you lived in the Twin Cities back in 87 and 91 and listened to KQRS this should bring back some good memories. This clip also has the pennant polka and the Twins team song. Turn up the volume on your computer and relax a little.

If the above music still didn't put your anxiety in check maybe this tune will do it. The song seems fitting since today is a Sunday and it's still morning when I posted this.

Hopefully these links work! If not, my whole thread just got flushed down the toilet...It's ok though. I'm relaxed and fully expecting the Twins to win the division, smoke the Astros and destroy the Yankees with or without Big Mike Pineda.

Looking out my window in a northern suburb precipitation is a 100% chance, looks like a rain delay.

Oooh, maybe I’ll get home in time to see the end of the game. Am currently 30,000ft in the air.

A win today would be huge. It would be nice to wrap up the division soon so that the Twins could give players more rest before the postseason begins.

Last turn we saw Dobnak in the one inning opener role. Down two starters, will Dobnak be stretched out? Is it Thorpe the primary pitcher again?

I hope they let him go for as long as he’s pitching well.

Blast from (my) past. Baseball-related, but only tangentially Twins-related.

There is an interesting article in today's NYT travel section talking about the origins of the modern swimsuit, which was invented in Portland by Jantzen.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/05/travel/portland-oregon-swim-jantzen.html

It talks about the fiberglass "diving-girl" statues that existed here and elsewhere. I immediately remembered that one used to be prominently displayed in Portland, but it took a long time to remember where. Civic Stadium, where the Twins AAA affiliate Portland Beavers played in the 1980s and early 1990s, had a gigantic left-field wall much like Boston's Green Monster (except it was blue). Of course there was advertising on the outfield walls, and the Blue Monster was a particularly large canvas for such. In the leftfield corner, just inside the foul line, was a large Jantzen ad, and the central feature of that ad was the diving-girl statue, maybe 15 feet long in horizontal orientation and hanging in front of the wall. Of course, the diving girl statue was in play, but in the dozens of Beavers' games I attended after moving here in 1988, I only remember a few balls hitting her. One of those quirk that is unique to baseball; I can't think of any other sport in which something like that could intrude on the field of play.

Just a fun, irrelevant recollection that I thought might be of interest. Go, Twins! :)

Per MLB.com, Buxton is going to CA to see a specialist to get a better idea of whether he'll be able to bat again this season.

"I don't really think anybody can say for sure, or with any confidence, 'yes' or 'no,'" Baldelli said. "And that's why we're trying to seek out as many opinions as we can, and not wait until the season ends to do that. Doing it now and allowing us to react from there, I think, makes a lot of sense."

Doesn't look good.

Whatever Buxton's time table is for anything, just double it at minimum.

So MN doesn't have any doctors? And why does Smeltzer never get to pitch? Why does Baldelli hate him so much? What is wrong with Max? Where is the Squirrel? Too many questions! My friends are at the game in a suite....
