SomeGuy Verified Member Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 Quoting myself here, I apologize already. Here is my proposed 3 team deal: Twins receive Noah Syndergaard Tigers receive Robinson Cano plus prospects Mets receive Matthew Boyd, Jonathan Schoop, plus prospects I don't know what prospects are needed to get this done, but the Mets get a young, controllable pitcher that they are requesting in a Syndergaard deal. The Mets give Cano to Detroit, who will have both Cano and Cabrera come off the books at the same time while having a tremendously cheap 23 other players (once Jordan Zimmerman is off the books). The Twins get the ace they are after without (hopefully) giving up both Lewis and Kirilloff. I need someone who knows what all 3 organizations have in their farm systems to help figure out what prospects need to go where, but doesn't this help all 3 (Detroit gets worse as part of the deal, but that is what they are trying to do).I don't think the Mets would be interested in Schoop as a rental. They would probably rather let anybody play 2nd and get a piece that impacts 2020 or later. They should see Boyd over Syndergaard as a big downgrade and only gain 1 extra year of control. They would require some serious prospects or other MLB ready talent to be okay with this. The Tigers would also need some serious prospects to lose Boyd and take on Cano's contract (which they shouldn't have any interest in doing). I think the Twins would be the one fronting the prospects in this scenario and it would probably benefit them the most to ignore the 3rd team aspect and just go Thor for prospects.

Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 Ken Giles gets a cortisone shot after seeing a Tommy John doctor: Dr. Meister has done a ton of TJ surgeries, so seeing his name is kind of like seeing Dr. Andrews.

This is one reason to trade pitchers sooner, rather than later......I hope for his sake, he's ok. That's more important, of course.

jokin Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 Good thread. ...as I was sayin'....Come on Pohlad and FO! Just take on one bad contract (short term in nature) + give up a middling prospect (like Lewin Diaz, for example?), and you can likely get the targeted player or players you really want/need.

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 Yeah, Tony Kemp isn't exactly a special player, but he's versatile and a pretty decent bat for a bench guy. Weren't Nick Hundley and Bobby Wilson just cut loose? Seems odd to give up anything other than Cash Considerations for a bat-less back up catcher.

Maldonado produced 0.6 WAR in just 114 PA for the Astros last year, and has had a few other recent seasons as good or better than that. He's definitely in the "no-bat backup catcher" class, but he's a far sight better (and 3 years younger) than Bobby Wilson (0.0 fWAR in 151 PA for the Twins last year, -0.6 in 41 PA for Detroit this year) or Nick Hundley (who hasn't been above 0 fWAR in a season since 2015).
tvagle Verified Member Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 So Nats give up their #27 mlbpipeline guy for Daniel Hudson Just an arm...doesn't seem like the Twins missed out on anything but some bemoaning from TD posters

Dunno, there are other Hudson-ish relievers available, if nothing else, I'll be disappointed if they don't get one of them. Well I'll be disappointed if they don't get more than a Hudon-ish reliever, I'll just have a more focused disappointment.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 Looks like the Nationals are also getting Elias from Seattle. Hooray for middling relievers!
tvagle Verified Member Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 Pick up Sanchez from the Blue Jays...their plan seems to be "Give me Pitching prospects not in the Top100 for $400 Alex" Convince him that he and Perez make a great stacking combo and away we go!
