Well then my answer is there aren’t any world class relievers available, but there will almost certainly be many better than Kimbrel will be this year, who I expect to be rusty and resentful.

I guess time will tell.

Me, I expect to see Kimbrel K'ing people in the post season.

Some bullpens just ooze confidence, and they come out and take it to the opposition. Some bullpens come out looking like they are hoping to avoid being the loser again. Ours, currently, is the latter.

And to be clear, I like the deal for the Cubs. For the last month or so I’ve been saying that I would like to get Kimbrel on a three year deal, like the Cubs did, because I think he’ll rebound just fine. I just thought the Twins shouldn’t count on him this year and would need to figure out other trade options because he’d be just like every other pitcher who has signed late.

so, bad for a month, then good? So, faster than anyone they can trade for, given when teams start trading?

Yup, this one is disappointing in the extreme. As close to a gimme as you get in the big leagues.

Even more disturbing when you factor in that the Rays weren't going all out to win the last couple of games over the weekend either, thanks to Kevin Cash's insistence on not using his 11 man bullpen too harshly.  We're going to be fine in the regular season--there's just too many games left against teams that can't hope to stop our bats for 2 out of 3 games, but absent impactful upgrades, this team seems ticketed for a 3-1 exit in the ALDS.

There is an enormous difference between a reliever signing late and a starter. Kimbrell will be as good as he’s going to be in 3-4 weeks. No Twins reliever threw more than 11 IP in ST this year. 11.

Why only a month? How many rusty pitchers have rebounded that quickly?

Stop. Many were enraged?

Enraged is slightly tongue in cheek, but there was certainly much b#%%ing and moaning about it on here.

No I was part of that debate. gotta fact check you. It was the idea that posters were valuing Hu so much less than than Kohl Stewart, Tyler Jay, Trevor May, or whoever the other TINSTAAPS were during that debate.

Carry on. :)

Perhaps that was part of it. But there was also $%%ing about trading a future #3 starter for a reliever who sucked. (Which was true in 2016, but not 2015).

If the Twins bullpen was a boat, I'd say it was taking on water at an alarming rate and is in danger of going under.

Do you think the Twins bullpen is descended from the lookouts on the Titanic (if they survived)?

Many of us wanted to trade for Brad Hand who was prospect expensive but could have helped multiple years. Instead he'll be beating us multiple years. Many didn't want to trade away Ryan Presley who could have helped multiple years. Now he too can burn us multiple years. Many of us were told we could always pursue Eduardo Escobar (.281 15hr +.500 slg) in free agency after trading him away only to see him extended before hitting FA by the only team allowed to negotiate with him for 3 years $21 mil which is the same as we're paying MarGo for 2 years.

There is a cost of not improving your ball club. I think most of us are ok with cashing in for prospects in a marginal year, so long as you retool for a year you've been pointing for 4 or 5 seasons. That it would cost more (MarGo) should be expected.

I don't care if Kimbrel is the next Addison Reed, he also probably isn't. The third year is the cost of trading away Presley.

Heartbreaking about Carrasco after his long comeback. I hope he finds a treatment that works and gets back soon. Kluber is out of a cast and Clevinger is going to pitch a rehab game. Cleveland might go from sellers to buyers (actual buyers, not Twins window shoppers) in 1 series. #missedopportunities
