jkcarew Verified Member Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 Rogers being overused? Not I’m my opinion. Had Harper clueless and behind in the count, then he and the catcher decided not to throw another pitch anywhere close to the strike zone and instead pitch to the hot right-handed bat with a runner on base. Stupid.

glunn Community Moderator Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 Whew. We are still in this, and Astudillo is still available.
ashbury Verified Member Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 I did not want to say this right away, lest I unleash another jinx, but on a day where the plate umpire's strike zone is as wide as the Schuylkill River, Ryne Harper seems like a good choice to come in. His MLB career will be defined more than most by what he can do when the ump isn't giving him his pitch - but today, he should be an automatic participant.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 Alright, let's see if we can get across that run, and we've still got Cruz and Astudillo to pinch hit.
ashbury Verified Member Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 Two of the three losses so far this season were very winnable games. OTOH they pulled out a couple of wins that probably should have been losses, so I'm not questioning anyone's heart or anything. I'm just not yet a big believer in this offense.
LaBombo Verified Member Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 A-Stud should have batted. I was disappointed as well. A Marwin-Astu-Cruz ninth guarantees you're not going down without a fight.
mickeymental Verified Member Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 oh well, 5-3 is better than 0-9.

There are the individual question marks, and then there's the good news/bad news of finally having a real DH again. Good news is that you get 500 really good AB's in AL parks, bad news is that in NL parks, the lineup looks kinda…. nekked without him.

wabene Verified Member Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 We're in third place now let's get back into the American league. I like this team with Cruz batting. I know interleague games aren't as important but this was a good opponent and we could have had this series. I feel like we left some bats on the bench and we could have gotten more at bats for Cruz. The thing I want to see is every game being must win, but you can't have everything, eh? Might just end up over using Rogers.
Platoon Verified Member Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 Berrios throw some really good breaking stuff today, and he also threw more than a few absolute hangers that they missed. Odds are you don't get to do that for very long before you get bit. He should be setting up his curve ball with his FB, not vice versa.

And while I was more than happy with the Marwin González signing, it wasn’t because I wanted him batting cleanup.
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 We're in third place ... And i bet i can name them all! Minneapolis... Kansas City... Philadelphia! I should look up and see where we are going next...
Channing1964 Verified Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 i dont get to see any games live(i live in Phoenix) and by all national media reports the Phillies are on par with the'27 Yankees. I just wanna say "Way to Go guys!" We went in there and played really Really well. This is absolutely fun to watch. Peace out Family!

All these games are important. If you dont think so reference the 2018 Chicago Cubs. Or the 2009 Twins.
Channing1964 Verified Member Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 No disagreement there. I saw Jose shake off Jason at least once in order to throw another curve. If Castro is this great pitcher-whisperer asset behind the plate I wanna see his batterymates go along with his recommendations a little more.Im sure they got the hint during the game but i did read that Berrios meant to primarily pitch "backwards" today. That means, if you didnt know, start em off with offspeed stuff and punch em out with the heater. He still had a darn nice outing.
