Getting Ready for Game Threads

It’s been great to be thinking about the daily barrage of Game Threads and Game Recaps starting up soon. I’ve been in my sort of spring training, firing up my fingers to respond to all the hot taeks and lame jokes.

To help us in this endeavor and to get our creative juices flowing, I’d like to start a nickname thread, where we come up with the nickname of choice when referring to the various players.

To play along:

  1. Creativity rules.
  2. Nothing derogatory or approaching vulgar.
  3. Give a “like” to the names you like.
  4. Add your own.
  5. Do them one at a time, so we know which one you’re commenting or liking on.

Let’s get rolling:

Ramon Castro: Nothing immediately comes to mind, but we all know he was signed for a particular skill. Thus, I’ll propose “Framey” Castro.

Max Kepler: Already fourth on the career home run list for players born in Germany and just 42 short of Mike Blowers for the all-time lead, I’ve been partial to “Der Schlagger.” He’s also atop the German list for fewest at bats per homer.

Jake Odorizzi: Credit goes to whoever came up with the Bermanism “Eggs” Odorizzi on a prior thread. This also acknowledges the goose eggs he’s going to put on the scoreboard every five days.

Jorge Polanco: I’m thinking that with continued improvement, we may have at least 20 times to sing, “Jor-HAY, Jor-HAY, Jor-HAY, Jor-hay, Jor-haaay, Jor-haaaaaay.” That sounds like “Goal” Polanco.

Fernando Rodney: This one’s a stretch, but stick with me. You know that pointing to the sky he does after every save as a way of remembering his dad? Perhaps he’s also pointing up there and singing, “There was something in the air that night, the stars were bright, Fernando. They were shining there for you and me, for liberty, Fernando.” And the most important line: “Though we never thought that we could lose, there’s no regret. If I had to do the same again, I would, my friend, Fernando.” So every time he gets the save, let’s give it up for “Abba” Rodney.

Joe Mauer: As a team leader, how about the “Chairman,” as in Chairman Mau.

Boo!!!  :)

You were on a roll until that one.

Eggs is good.

I also like "Whiff" because of the Easy Odor of his last name.

Miguel Sano: “Frosty,” which is short for “Frosty the Sano Man.”

Has to be "Frosty"

Lock that one in.

I'm going to Boo that one as well but I admire the effort!  :)

Too young. I suggest The Trilobite.

Two things I do not have in common with trilobites:

1.  Trilobites are extinct.

2.  Trilobites do not have the power to ban people.

Really? How many people were there along with the trilobites?

OK, the rules said one at a time. Brace yourselves...
