Indians save Twins from themselves sign Napoli

I thought the same thing when I saw that on MLBTR.  I feel like the FO has a weird affinity for players that were once in their organization. Napoli is a bum player right now; there is no reason for any team to sign him and give him a roster spot.  Don't even see how he fits onto the Indians roster...

Going from memory, the Twins front office guaranteed money to six players this offseason: Reed, Odorizzi, Morrison, Rodney, Duke, and Sanchez.

The number of seasons these players spent with either the Cleveland or Texas organizations: zero.

edit: Oops, forgot Pineda. That's seven players and zero seasons with either Cleveland or Texas.

They could have signed Napoli both last year and this year. They passed on him twice. Clear evidence of their weird affinity.

Well it's a minor league deal so there's a decent chance he fits into their roster just as well as Erick Aybar fits into the Twins.

Has the front office signed anyone from Cleveland in the past two seasons? If so, sign me up, they've been really good and have developed some nice players.

Didn't they offer more money than Texas last year, but get spurned? That's my recollection, though I could be wrong.

Yep, that was the case.

"According to a report from FOX’s Ken Rosenthal, the Twins offered more money to Napoli than the Rangers, but he chose to sign in Texas, in part because they’re viewed as more likely to contend this season."

Let's hope he's on a run of incorrectly choosing contenders.
