Well, I've said for weeks that this road trip would be make or break for the Twins and right now it is looking like the latter.  If we somehow make it to post season, it would sure be sweet to knock these guys out.

I'm with ya.  The Angels suck worse than the Twins methinks, and our schedule is not tough.  Problem being I don't know which SP we can put out there right now that can handle the Bomber's lineup.

Did you really think you were making the playoffs?

Yes, but not really by their own doing.

The Angels (and other teams in the race) are just as bad. By the grace of God, the Twins have 7 games against Detroit.

I'm not overly worried, this was a "trap" series, in a sense, to begin with.

The Twins don't have a pitcher that can survive in this ballpark, except maybe Berrios, and he didn't look right.

The Twins don't have guys that hit to RF regularly with authority from the right side, and no lefties that pull the ball with authority. They are built to fail in this park.

Some uncharacteristically terrible defense, and some poor umpiring haven't helped them out. This bullpen is horrendous (another convo....BUT WHY WASNT THIS ADDRESSED IN THE OFFSEASON!).

They were swept before they stepped off the plane.

and if they make the wildcard guess where they get to play.....

The talent disparity between the twins and the first wild card time is unsettling. Makes me think we're not a "year away"

I don't really agree.

You can't look at the offensive numbers (due to the stadium, swap parks and see how that works out for Judge, Sanchez, and Gregorious).

With Sano in the lineup, I like the Twins lineup better. The Twins are better defensively. Santana, Berrios, and Gibson are good enough to reasonably pitch with Severino, Tanaka, and Gray. It comes down to the Twins not having a bullpen, for me, which shouldn't be that tough to rectify if the FO wouldn't sit on their hands every offseason.

It's been the same story in all three games. Tight games until the bullpens get involved. Theirs blows everyone away and locks down games, ours throws BP.

We might as well just give the second wild card to the Angels.

The exact opposite of this attitude is why the wildcard is still even a discussion. Thank goodness the Twins have this attitude.

I understand this game is over. But, the Twins are in a playoff race and are running a guy out of the bullpen with an ERA and WHIP north of 10 and 2.

The fact that they have that guy on the roster, whether expanded or not, speaks volumes.

For the record, I was questioning whether SmarterThanYou was going to the playoffs.  We're still in the lead for the last Wild Card spot.  I think this team can rebound from this and win enough games to make the WC game.

I can't say I agree. Our #1 got outpitched by a guy whose own manager essentially gave him a no confidence vote. Our #2 was outpitched by a mile against sabathia. The twins are better statistically on defense but have played very sloppy all series, partly IMO because there has been a guy on base literally EVERY INNING this series. We finally get to their ace and because we are so short staffed in the rotation, we have a soft throwing 45 year old in there grooving meatballs. Having sano would help power-wise, but he K's a ton. It's going to be hard to just find guys to fix the bullpen. Every team wants bullpen help

As disheartening as this is, I'd be more let down if I didn't completely expect it.

It's like there's a script.

And Michael Bay directing.

Doesn't sound good listening on the radio. Hope whoever it is is ok. Why not just extend the nets to the poles at this point

This game was percolating below the surface in the previous two.

Scores in games 1 and 2 were close, but Twins pitchers have still not had a 1-2-3 inning in the series according to Cory and Dan on the radio.  Meanwhile, with the exception of a few innings, Yankees pitching has torn through our lineup with lots of strikeouts and easy innings.

Maybe if the Twins signed or traded for a legit SP they'd close the gap some. Always waiting until you are a "year away" really slows down the rebuild, imo.

Severino has been the third best SP in the AL this year. ESan isn't close to that. did you just compare Gibson and Gray?
