"The Twins are cursed!"  "The Twins just can't beat the Yankees!"

No. The Twins can't beat good teams and are a very average squad. It's not the Yankee curse, it's just that this team can't hit lefties and has trouble with good pitching in general. Red Sox, Astros, Dodgers, Yankees, Indians...you name it, they all pretty much routinely crush the Twins with ease.

The Twins have kept in the hunt this year by beating up on bad teams, and catching good teams (ie: Milwaukee, KC) during bad stretches. They will need to continue that against Detroit immediately.

Demoralizing sweep, demoralizing series, just a gut punch and a big middle finger to the fans given to everyone by the listless and drifting Twins.

Had 2 of our best 3 pitchers going this series and got swept. Now what, we have to rely on Mejia and Gibson (who pitches best with 10 runs of support) to get us back on track? Yikes.

I don't disagree for the most part. The twins have largely gotten back into the race because of their weak schedule the past month. However, I think there is an intimidation/no confidence factor at play here. This is now 17 straight series losing seasons to the Yankees. 17. That's hard to do at any level in any sport. This Yankees team is comparatively much weaker than the dynasty years when the twins actually used to beat them. There's a bad vibe when we play them and it's discouraging how professional athletes can't overcome that in almost 2 decades.

Man, that three-run lead was nice while it lasted. You know, for that one out....that it lasted.

I walked into the house, started watching the replay at the point we were up 3-0, then five minutes later the lead is gone.

Nope, got better things to do the rest of the night.

Because I am smarter than you I realize that the Twins have this all worked out.  They have purposely thrown these games, and played mediocre ball to lull the Yankees into a false sense of security for the one game wildcard game.  Then, when they least expect it, wham, Berrios pitches lights out, the bats come alive and there we are in the playoffs, where we will lull some more teams to look past that series.

It's all coming together as planned.
