The two pitchers the Twins have trotted out in this inning have a combined 30 ERA. Usually that's not idea in a game that's still within 3 runs.

Actually, it's hard to slide with your lead foot dragging the ground.  It digs in and slows you down, you might even hurt your ankle.  You're sort of taught, or learn through experience, to keep that leading foot up off the ground a bit, just enough to reach the elevated bag at 2nd or 3rd.  Coming into home, it's habit.
